Please note: Mounjaro can only be taken if your BMI is above 30.

Pointers for newbies:

1 - For taking your first dose you need to twist the pen a lot to get to 1! The instructions say prime each time you take a dose, but actually Eli Lilly have confirmed you only need to prime for the first ever use of a pen. (The video posted says every use, but this isn't true!)

2 - When injecting, hold down the button until the number goes back to 0. Once at 0, keep holding down the button and count to 5 with the needle still in so no medication is lost!

3 - Your first dose may not have an immediate effect. For some people the effects build slowly. It could take 3 or 4 days to notice anything, it could take a few weeks. Some people don't feel the meds working until they get to 5mg. See titration chart which shows how the medication builds up in your system. Also below you can plot the effect of your doses.
glp1plotter.com/

4 - 2.5mg isn't a therapeutic dose, meaning you aren’t meant to lose on 2.5mg. You need to start on 2.5mg to get your body used to the drug and gradually introduce it into your system and get used to any side effects.

5 - Not everyone loses a lot in the first few weeks. Don't feel discouraged if you don't lose a lot initially. Again, you might need a higher dose to start losing. Also, inches can be lost without anything showing on the scales. Start your journey by taking measurements and check them as you go along.

6 - If you do lose a lot in the first few weeks, please don't assume you will continue losing at this rate. The first few weeks it is usually water weight that is lost, after than a good weight loss is about 2lbs a week. Some weeks you might not lose anything, but this is ok too…again, taking measurements might show inches lost instead.

7 - Constipation, coldness, nausea, diarrhea, headaches, aches, are side effects. There may be be other side effects also. Read info here :

www.medicines.org.uk/emc/product/15481/pil#about-medicine

8 - Once you take your first dose you can choose to keep your pen in the fridge or somewhere else. It's up to you.

9 - Don't reuse any needles as this could risk infection. If you damage a needle or one isn't working, you can buy a pack of about 100 spares. www.chemist-4-u.com/carepoint-pen-needles-31g-4mm-pack-of-100?gclid=Cj0KCQjwiYOxBhC5ARIsAIvdH51rLZBVFQxuvS7mDJooegtK8BMiyT0PwREMRHhH_1atfQIo8TEbsmkaAkA0EALw_wcB

Also there is a 5th dose in each pen. To extract it you can either try a hard twist or use an insulin needle.
medbasic.co.uk/bd-micro-fine-30g-1ml-syringes-needles

10 - Protein is important as eating less protein can cause muscle wastage and hair loss. Try to have at least 100g a day.

11 - Some natural sources of protein:
www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/best-sources-protein
www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/321522#high-protein-foods

12 - You can use supplements, some that people use are magnesium(for sleep and constipation), protein(to reduce muscle wastage), collagen (skin elasticity), aloe vera(for constipation), electrolytes.

13 - Drink lota of water. Water helps with the weight loss. Drink at least 2ltrs a day. Preferably 3ltrs.

14 - Don't be afraid to feel hungry. It is entirely normal and healthy to feel hungry. Just eat something. Treat it as an opportunity to start good habits around hunger. Eat a nice balanced snack or a meal if it's a meal time. It's ok.

15 - Does it makes any difference where you inject? yes it does! Drugs get absorbed at different rates depending on injection site

In order of fastest absorption, it goes:
• Tummy
• Arms
• Thighs
furthet reading about injection sites and the effects: www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/316618

16 - Abdominal side-effects are much easier to control with smaller meals. For example, having 4 small meals in the day vs 2 big meals can have an improvement in nausea and burps.

17 - You can track your calories / protein on apps such as My fitnessPal, Carb Manager or Nutracheck. Nutracheck is quite useful and easy to find foods /build recipes.

18 - Some of the places you can order from are:

MedExpress 2.5mg and 5mg. £149.99. 7.5mg £169. Use code STARTNOW. Ask for other codes if that doesn't work.
The Family Chemist 2.5mg and 5mg -£149. 7.5mg £169.
Simple online pharmacy - £159 2.5mg £179 5mg
Bolt pharmacy 2.5mg £125, 5mg £179. 7.5mg £189
Asda 2.5mg and 5mg £184. 7.5mg £189
Boots £219 +
Chemist4U £179 +
Superdrugs

19 - If you want to switch suppliers, make sure you have pics of your Mounjaro box with your name and dose. This will come in useful when other suppliers ask for evidence.

I have had an email from the Virtual Slimming Clinic with the release dates for 12.5 and 15 mg as the weeks beginning 3rd and 24th June.

izzy2076 · 02/06/2024 10:30

I think it's easier to think about what we intend to do in maintenance whilst we are on mounjaro. It's done something to our brains so that we view food differently. Like the posters below, I am keen to carry on my good habits but I am worried about what my non mounjaro brain will do if I have to come off it. I have definitely developed fantastic habits but that self sabotage 'fuck it' voice risks coming back if I'm not careful.

MsClittirati · 02/06/2024 10:31

Has anyone struggled with ‘what do I do’ ?

I am almost at the end of week 2 and feel amazing. The optimism is fantastic as I know this is just the start of the weight loss for me.

It has been a stark realisation that eating / thinking about food / supermarket shopping for food was my main occupation outside work !

How are you filling your time and have you noticed how much of your life that the food noise occupied ?

Am getting much more done around the house but need to find another hobby I guess that is not food. I am at a time in my life where I will be an empty nester soon so guess it’s a watershed time for several reasons.

noclouds · 02/06/2024 10:33

@MsClittirati yes that's how I feel. I've become slightly obsessed with plants, but like you say it's more I need something to fill my head space

LatinaLondon · 02/06/2024 10:36

Good sunny Sunday morning! Last week I exercised hard for 3 days, ate within my goal calories, had 3 days where I ate little as suppression was strong and lost nothing! 🙈
This week didn’t exercise at all, had the same 3 days of strong suppression, the other days were fine but ate a bit more than my goal calories a couple of days … and I lost 900 grams. The only different thing was that my water and protein intake this week was very good compared to last week.

Started MJ 8th March
Height:1.56 Weight:73.50kg / 162lbs BMI:30.2 Doses: all doses 2.5mg
Dose 1 (-4kg / -8.8lbs) = 69.50
Dose 2 (-2kg / -4.4lbs) = 67.50

Dose 3 (-1.10kg / -2.4lbs) = 66.40
Dose 4 (-500gr / -1.10lbs) = 65.90
Dose 5 (-500gr / -1.10lbs) = 65.40
Dose 6 (+850gr / +1.8lbs) = 66.25
Dose 7 (-1.10kg / -2.4lbs) = 65.15
Dose 8 (-600gr / -1.3lbs) = 64.55
Dose 9 (-600gr / -1.3lbs) = 63.95
Dose 10 (-500gr /-1.1lbs) = 63.45
Dose 11 (stayed the same) = 63.45
Dose 12 (-900gr / 1.9lbs) = 62.55
Total loss 11.80kg / 26lbs BMI: 25.7

DH and I were offered a weekend’s babysitting by the in-laws months ago, very kind of them, but I just couldn’t get enthusiastic about where to go and I realised it’s because I’m usually driven by where I want to go to eat and what sort of food I feel like (DH is very similar so this has never caused any problems!). Without that driver I was just a bit lost. It took till this week to decide. I do worry that a big bit of me is missing - not just the weight I’ve lost.

I want to fill the gap with activity and exercise. This feels like it would serve two purposes. I just need to get going on this - I see a PT once a week but am struggling to get to the gym outside those sessions at the moment and need to force it. I’m also trying to read more.

ObsidianTree · 02/06/2024 10:54

Morning all. Or afternoon! Not sure on the time zone!

At airport on my way home. Cant wait to get back to MJ and rejoin you all properly!

Hope everyone is having a great Sunday 😊

FlappyFish · 02/06/2024 11:23

I hope you have a great flight @ObsidianTree and you will totally make it back to start thread 12. Oof I’m free of the pressure ha ha.

@noclouds MJ has made a lot of out cycles go a bit haywire. Bits of spotting and coming on early. I think - and for me only - it’s just the changes in hormones and my body adjusting.

@MsClittirati I am being rather vain and spending more time on self-care. I’m reading more. I need to do more activities and the sun today down south is helping.

Post holiday weigh in.

Left the UK at 170lbs with 6mg Mounjaro in my thigh.
Returned a week later at 173.2lbs. While away I ate in a more relaxed fashion than when dieting at home but didn't not go too overboard on food / wine and did do a lot more walking, playing in the pool etc compared to my desk job.
Took 7.5mg Mounjaro within 15 mins of getting home.

48 hours later with plenty of water, protein and salad I have had a whoosh and lost 5lbs so am 168.2. Am thrilled that I managed the eating and drinking for a week with no residual weight gain. Loving Mounjaro.

LifeisHard73 · 02/06/2024 12:09

Wow I’m so behind with the threads now but I’m still catching up a few times a week! Had so much going on, poorly parent, work is mental and quite a lot of social stuff too. I’m about to take injection 7 and my weight loss has been non existent for 2 weeks. I need a big week next week so I’m going back to basics. I’ve been making great choices, only eating twice a day and watching portions but I’ve had a few drinks this week and a few snacky days. I also been walking every day but it’s not enough.

from tomorrow I’m being super strict again. 2 small meals a day, no snacks and no bloody wine! It’s a complete waste of money to do this and not take full advantage of the benefits!

Anyway, happy Sunday all. The sun is out, well for now. What’s everyone making for dinner? Looking for some inspiration x

Jpeg24 · 02/06/2024 12:12

Happy Sunday all 😀

Tried the hard twist for extra dose and it didn't work. Can someone tell me what syringes or needles I need to purchase to get this pretty please 🥺

ChristmasLightsLover · 29/05/2024 22:45

Well done @Rulay !!!! This is a cracking NSV. I have had chippy tea whilst unwell but am getting back to it now. High fives!!!!

Amazing. Think of the money saved too! Take away, even cheap ones like subway are so expensive now!

ChristmasLightsLover · 02/06/2024 12:32

@LifeisHard73 We had a Chinese for two adults and two teens this week. £67!!!! We all agreed that £12.80 for six chicken balls and sweet and sour rice is madness and wasn't all that nice.

I've agreed with my terns that when they want takeaway they can have 2 pizzas for £20 from Dominoes. I don't like pizza so I won't have it and DH has their leftovers.

There's so much change coming through from this experience - I just had an apple instead of chocolate brownie. I want to notice this kind of thing...

Sorry. Bit rambling here. Lots of thoughts....

There is NOTHING worse than an expensive take out that isn’t all that and all of those wasted calories!

We very rarely have take anymore but we do eat out fair bit, which I’ve said in June we need curb as we have a wedding at the end of the month and both of us would like to weigh less! I haven’t brought an outfit but OH had a linen suit which is far tighter than last summer 😂

RunningAndSinging · 02/06/2024 13:06

Yes we had Chinese for a change on Friday and it was not very nice and not worth the money. At least with the MJ I didn’t eat that much of it.

whatisontk · 02/06/2024 14:18

I'm on day 4 of my 1st 2.5mg. It's going great so far I know things can change at any point. No side effects yet. I have some appetite suppression, I'm getting full quicker and the feeling is lasting longer. What it's allowing me to do is because I'm not feeling starving hungry like I did before I am able to make more sensible choices, take time making a healthy meal and drinking more water. Like others the food noise has gone which is so weird to get my head around. I'm not thinking about the next meal at all until I do feel a little hungry and then realise it's actually dinner time etc.

Not craving any unhealthy food like normal.

ViolaPlains · 02/06/2024 14:22

Just taken my 4th 2.5 dose - little to no side effects. I've lost 9lb, which I'm happy(ish) about. I'm starting 5mg next week.

I find that I have no hunger for starting to eat but I can mostly eat what's in front of me, if that makes sense.

My main problem is alcohol, but I think I'm in a position to tackle that now.

AgathaMystery · 02/06/2024 14:23

Afternoon all…. I’m back from holiday - the food was incredible… I had a few bites & left what I didn’t want. It felt good to be in control of it all. I ordered 3 alcoholic drinks and managed to finish 2… didn’t want another. I felt so much better for it.

The weirdest thing about this holiday was not avoiding photos. I wasn’t worried about having my photo taken or how I’d look in pictures.

@GloriaBunniford thinking about your disappointment… do you have any fear of the scales? Just because for many of us, daily weighing really helps as you see the tiny incremental shift down and it stops all the pressure being on ‘one day’ (I also find it stops me ‘rewarding’ myself for a loss).

I also use a free app called ‘my weight’ which helps to keep me focused. It shows you progress Vs time which is really good. I have attached some pics so you can see.

I used to drink far too much wine but I haven’t had a single drink since starting. I just don’t fancy it.

AgathaMystery · 02/06/2024 14:27

I think there will be a growing body of evidence that these drugs help with habit forming behaviour like drinking etc. I know anecdotes aren’t data but we have over 10,000 messages now and I don’t recall a single one saying that anyone could still tollerate or even crave alcohol like before.

Wonkypictureframe · 02/06/2024 14:38

There have been a few posters still drinking like they did before, but very much in the minority. Certainly there have been a few posters who drank quite heavily who have stopped or greatly reduced.

Mrsmounjaro · 02/06/2024 14:47

Curate pharmacy have a 20% discount code that runs out today MCUK20. Ive just tried it myself, it defo works

BlackFriYay · 02/06/2024 14:49

I haven't caught up yet but for the people who were worried that they couldn't switch suppliers now they're below BMI 30 - TheFamilyChemist have confirmed that they will accept us even though we've passed the 30 mark.

It's only new starters who won't be perscribed under an obese BMI.

Hope that reassures anyone wondering.
