Please note: Mounjaro can only be taken if your BMI is above 30.

Pointers for newbies:

1 - For taking your first dose you need to twist the pen a lot to get to 1! The instructions say prime each time you take a dose, but actually Eli Lilly have confirmed you only need to prime for the first ever use of a pen. (The video posted says every use, but this isn't true!)

2 - When injecting, hold down the button until the number goes back to 0. Once at 0, keep holding down the button and count to 5 with the needle still in so no medication is lost!

3 - Your first dose may not have an immediate effect. For some people the effects build slowly. It could take 3 or 4 days to notice anything, it could take a few weeks. Some people don't feel the meds working until they get to 5mg. See titration chart which shows how the medication builds up in your system. Also below you can plot the effect of your doses.
glp1plotter.com/

4 - 2.5mg isn't a therapeutic dose, meaning you aren’t meant to lose on 2.5mg. You need to start on 2.5mg to get your body used to the drug and gradually introduce it into your system and get used to any side effects.

5 - Not everyone loses a lot in the first few weeks. Don't feel discouraged if you don't lose a lot initially. Again, you might need a higher dose to start losing. Also, inches can be lost without anything showing on the scales. Start your journey by taking measurements and check them as you go along.

6 - If you do lose a lot in the first few weeks, please don't assume you will continue losing at this rate. The first few weeks it is usually water weight that is lost, after than a good weight loss is about 2lbs a week. Some weeks you might not lose anything, but this is ok too…again, taking measurements might show inches lost instead.

7 - Constipation, coldness, nausea, diarrhea, headaches, aches, are side effects. There may be be other side effects also. Read info here :

www.medicines.org.uk/emc/product/15481/pil#about-medicine

8 - Once you take your first dose you can choose to keep your pen in the fridge or somewhere else. It's up to you.

9 - Don't reuse any needles as this could risk infection. If you damage a needle or one isn't working, you can buy a pack of about 100 spares. www.chemist-4-u.com/carepoint-pen-needles-31g-4mm-pack-of-100?gclid=Cj0KCQjwiYOxBhC5ARIsAIvdH51rLZBVFQxuvS7mDJooegtK8BMiyT0PwREMRHhH_1atfQIo8TEbsmkaAkA0EALw_wcB

Also there is a 5th dose in each pen. To extract it you can either try a hard twist or use an insulin needle.
medbasic.co.uk/bd-micro-fine-30g-1ml-syringes-needles

10 - Protein is important as eating less protein can cause muscle wastage and hair loss. Try to have at least 100g a day.

11 - Some natural sources of protein:
www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/best-sources-protein
www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/321522#high-protein-foods

12 - You can use supplements, some that people use are magnesium(for sleep and constipation), protein(to reduce muscle wastage), collagen (skin elasticity), aloe vera(for constipation), electrolytes.

13 - Drink lota of water. Water helps with the weight loss. Drink at least 2ltrs a day. Preferably 3ltrs.

14 - Don't be afraid to feel hungry. It is entirely normal and healthy to feel hungry. Just eat something. Treat it as an opportunity to start good habits around hunger. Eat a nice balanced snack or a meal if it's a meal time. It's ok.

15 - Does it makes any difference where you inject? yes it does! Drugs get absorbed at different rates depending on injection site

In order of fastest absorption, it goes:
• Tummy
• Arms
• Thighs
furthet reading about injection sites and the effects: www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/316618

16 - Abdominal side-effects are much easier to control with smaller meals. For example, having 4 small meals in the day vs 2 big meals can have an improvement in nausea and burps.

17 - You can track your calories / protein on apps such as My fitnessPal, Carb Manager or Nutracheck. Nutracheck is quite useful and easy to find foods /build recipes.

18 - Some of the places you can order from are:

MedExpress 2.5mg and 5mg. £149.99. 7.5mg £169. Use code STARTNOW. Ask for other codes if that doesn't work.
The Family Chemist 2.5mg and 5mg -£149. 7.5mg £169.
Simple online pharmacy - £159 2.5mg £179 5mg
Bolt pharmacy 2.5mg £125, 5mg £179. 7.5mg £189
Asda 2.5mg and 5mg £184. 7.5mg £189
Boots £219 +
Chemist4U £179 +
Superdrugs

19 - If you want to switch suppliers, make sure you have pics of your Mounjaro box with your name and dose. This will come in useful when other suppliers ask for evidence.

Cool. Did you get 15% off? How do you know if someone has used your referral code?

I used a code someone here shared and then apparently they email you with a code if someone uses yours.

Snozzlemaid · 01/06/2024 18:02

@hoola23 Third day is going well thanks. No side effects felt today at all. I just feel nicely full all the time.
Didn't eat until lunch and was then incredibly full after when I would usually snack again soon after. Not eaten anything since lunch yet and not even looked or thought about food all afternoon.
It's incredible how I'm not struggling with eating so much less food.
Looking forward to weighing on Wednesday when I've done my first week.

hoola23 · 01/06/2024 18:12

@Snozzlemaid amazing!! Well done! I hope tomorrow is a bit easier for me. The tiredness is making me think about sugary food which is annoying. Didn't have this at all yesterday

GlueNoGlue · 01/06/2024 18:25

NSV for me today? I had a shower and the bath towel fit all the way around rather than gaping at the front. Not had that for a long time!

Bananabuttons · 01/06/2024 18:34

If anyone needs recipe inspiration, I’ve just trawled through 5 years worth of Gousto recipe cards and pulled out loads. All between 400-500 cals and 30 gr plus protein. Mainly chicken or fish plus some veggie.

Happy to share here or message a photo.

That would be super helpful.

I've actually struggled a lot this weekend soo far I don't have the super appetite restriction some have

GlueNoGlue · 01/06/2024 19:00

@ObsidianTree someone posted an Asda code the other day but it wouldn’t work when I tried to use it last week. They’re delivering quickly though, I ordered mine on Thursday evening and it arrived Friday morning (when I was out, Sod’s Law!)

Bananabuttons · 01/06/2024 19:05

I’m meal planning because I can’t really think of much I fancy so I figured I’d just choose 7 healthy low calorie-ish, high protein meals and do an online food shop so it’s all there. Also means DH can cook and it won’t go massively off track calorie wise.

This is what we had for dinner- 45 grams of protein although I probably only ate 2/3 of my portion. The recipe is for 2, double for 4. My tween kids liked it too.

I had this exact same NSV and I was over the moon!! Congrats 🎉

That meme is so true. @lurkylurk. I’ve gone from a 36G to a 34DD. On the plus side, I could convert my old bras to baseball caps.

(and they’ve lost all volume from the top, sigh)

I’m on third week of 2.5 and we have had an incredibly busy 3 weeks - after my and my husband’s birthdays and also a weekend away last week, then yesterday we had to travel to pack one of our kids up at uni and the family wanted to try Popeye’s chicken on the way. I couldn’t even eat half of a small three chicken strips meal. This morning we went to a farm shop and I got a “healthy veggie breakfast burrito” on their “healthy choices menu”, I thought the eggs etc would be good protein and it had lots of veggies - it was actually huge! I could only eat half, and then wasn’t hungry at lunch, so had some fruit. We finished packing and got pizza for dinner, I had a nice salad I enjoyed and I only wanted one piece of pizza.

I feel like I mostly eat healthy at home but when we get busy like this (as our family often is) I’d normally have eaten a bunch of junk without even trying, it just happens and that food is soooo calorie dense - but it was amazing, I just didn’t! Not even “didn’t” - COULDN’T. And I am completely stuffed from a healthy green salad and single slice of pizza. I just can’t get over how well this is working so far. It feels like a miracle, like it’s helping me live in this world full of trash overly addictive, calorie dense food I have to exist in (outside of when I am home and control it easier) and not eat too much of it??? I can’t put it into words exactly, does anyone know what I mean??

Rulay · 01/06/2024 21:22

@CoolRanch I think I know what you mean. It doesn't remove the temptation but it makes it easier to resist it, much easier. And it gives me the security to know that even if I do overeat one day, I'll have the strength to keep going because MJ gives me that strength. It's something I've never had before.

QueenOfHiraeth · 01/06/2024 21:26

@evolute Be very careful buying syringes off Amazon as many of them are not sterile, which they absolutely need to be. If they are called measuring devices rather than sterile syringes, they may not be safe.
I went into my local chemist and asked if I could buy a pack of insulin syringes (frantically thinking up excuses in case they asked why!) and they told me they don't really use them much now as diabetics are generally on pens so they didn't have any 1ml or 0.5ml in but they had a couple of packs of 0.3ml which they were happy to give me free as they had no use for them 😊That was fine for me as i wanted to use half the bonus dose to increase 2.5 to 3.75

I don't know how true it is but someone I follow on Tiktok posted that she had a reply from her supplier saying that the UK regulator have told all online pharmacies to stop discount codes as financial incentives are not allowed on prescribed medication .

Rulay · 01/06/2024 21:43

@QueenOfHiraeth that makes sense. I was sure Asda had £40 off per pen until the end of May but the offer suddenly disappeared the other day.

Choux · 01/06/2024 22:08

Well that gives me a dilemma if true. My options are order a 10mg pen from Zava asap and use someone's 15% off referral code to get it for c£165 OR wait till the 12.5mg gets released and hope the Zava referral codes are not pulled. If they are then Family Chemist is likely to be cheapest for 12.5mg at £204.

Is anyone else planning to move up to 12.5mg?

FlappyFish · 01/06/2024 22:23

@CoolRanch I completely get it. And I’m now sat here on a Saturday night having lost three stone thinking “What has happened? Where are my boobs? 😝”

It is still bizarre to me. It has happened so quickly. Like you, I just find sometimes I can’t. Today has been one of those days. I forced down a protein shake and I’ve had some crackers and ham. The suppression isn’t normally this strong. I’m still on 5. I’m 3.5 months in.

I read your food choices and went sounds great and today I can’t. Wonder if I’m actually getting unwell.

I've been here since march but lurking in the background as not much to say.... however I had a really interesting conversation with DH today. He's the only person that I have told. He was saying how he had noticed other peoples reaction to my weight loss (I am a slow burner, 18lbs in 10 weeks so not extreme) and the comments that I had received from close family about what I was eating. Small things like not having chips with a sandwich or not finishing a meal completely. He was really shocked and his eyes are now fully open to the 'projections' that overweight people losing weight face.

The price per mg would be pretty much the same, in that scenario, if my maths is correct.

@evolute you can try my Zava code REFKDB4G it should be 15%

Thank you that worked.
sorry @ObsidianTree i didn’t see your new one before I tried - hopefully that means someone had used yours and you get your discount 🙏 like you I’m hoping this gives medexpress kick up the bum to change some thing.

Sharing the love and passing on my 15% off Zava code REFKDB4G

@lurkylurk thanks, I hadn’t even thought about that!! Will stick with the medical ones sold via pharmacy!

It's all good and well the UK regulator saying this.. I can't help but feel they should perhaps apply the rules to protect the consumer from companies that overcharge too. I know that they're all running a business offering this service but speaking from experience (ie paying the most expensive price out there for my first pen whilst most other pharmacies are offering 70 to 90 quid cheaper BEFORE coupon discounts added) I can't help but feel people are taking advantage of worry warts like me that didn't like the idea of ordering from an online supplier rather than a high street name!

Rant over. 😂

GreyFinch · 01/06/2024 23:09

Anyone have any recommendations for moisturisers or alternatives for stretch marks? I have quite a lot of stretch marks on my tummy (almost 4 year old from pregnancy). They had all turned silver and weren’t very visible until this past week they’ve started turning purple again.

from googling, it looks like this can happen with weight loss - especially fast weight loss - in particular in areas where they are already.

ill happily take stretch marks/loose skin over being fat any day and I know it’s largely genetics but it wouldn’t harm to do a bit of self care as well.

anyone used any nice moisturisers or oils they would recommend?

This is something that is really troubling me. Sounds stupid, my boobs have always been a part of me that I loved, no matter my weight.

I genuinely feel like I will have lost a limb if they end upakomg me unhappy.

I know there are worse issues in the world and within me, but I have always been able to count on them. And if I can't anymore, I worry it's going to really affect me.

I'm sorry, i know deep down that it's stupid. But it's a genuine worry of mine.

I have researched going abroad for surgery to correct and there isn't anything to correct yet!

FastGoose · 01/06/2024 23:13

@GreyFinch it's quite expensive but I use Sol Janeiro Brazilian Bum Bum cream on my bum and tum. It smells absolutely divine and makes my skin feel lovely. I can't say for certain that it's made much difference on my stripes (I think I'm damaged beyond repair) but it does claim to tighten and lift. I just love it x
