Mounjaro - for steady losers

RunningAndSinging · 29/05/2024 16:28

I love the main continuing Mounjaro thread and have learned so much but it is so fast moving that it is sometimes hard to keep up with. I wonder if we could have a little splinter group for some of us who have been on Mounjaro for a while and the weight isn’t falling or hasn’t fallen off.

Maybe criteria of having been on it for at least 8 weeks so used or mostly used the 2.5mg and 5 mg pen and losing up to a maximum of 2 lb a week?

I have been on Mounjaro for 13 weeks (3 weeks on 2.5mg (2lb loss), 6 weeks on 5mg (6lb loss), 4 weeks of 7.5mg (5.5lb loss)) so a total of 13 5lb.

So close to the stone now - I will get there.

Planning to go up to 10mg next week. I did have a bit of vomiting last week and the week before but have been fine this week after my last 7.5mg so keen to go on up especially as I feel the losses are slower than I would like.

The changing numbers of weeks on each dose was because I used the bonus dose on my first pen to double up on week 4 and then used the bonus dose as an extra week at the end of each of the 5 mg and 7.5mg pens.

It would be great to hear from anyone in a similar journey.

I am about to start this drug so find this interesting. Have you not had the same reaction that others have talked about where you don't have the food noise anymore? Have you noticed you are eating a lot less or just a bit less?

RunningAndSinging · 29/05/2024 16:53

I definitely am eating less, feeling full quicker and am more able to resist temptation but I do sometimes eat chocolate or something (but not as much as I might have) and I definitely still get hungry. I haven’t lost all interest in food.

I’m in exactly the same position. Weight is not dropping of me even tho I’ve plenty to lose. I rarely eat meals, I just snack because the thought of cooking food for myself just turns me. I’m always exhausted. I’ve 1 week left on 7.5mgs and really not sure if I’m going to order the 10mg pen. The cost is outweighing the benefit for me at the minute.

RunningAndSinging · 29/05/2024 17:00

Oh no. I am pretty tired too but then I don’t know for sure that it is the drug - I am quite tired anyway I think. I know it is helping me because I was on Ozempic/Wegovy before and lost slowly with that too but gained very quickly in my two month break.

Hello, I'm in the same boat op. Started in March, not following a diet, have lost just over a stone in that time. Perfectly happy with being able to live my life, just eating less.

My theory is that low and slow is what will allow my brain to rewire itself so I'm out of the habit of snacking/rewards by the time I come off it, so I'm in no rush. Plus I'm in my forties so I don't want to put too much strain on my skin. Am assuming I'm going to be on it for a year, which should be long enough to shift the 60-70 odd pounds I have to lose.

Currently still on 5mg, but weighing up whether to go to 7.5 - the leap in side effects from 2.5 to 5 was horrible, so a bit nervous about that. How did you find it?

RunningAndSinging · 31/05/2024 08:59

I didn’t have any side effects to note until my third 7.5 mg dose. I was sick the next morning and then the two mornings after my 4th one. I have been fine after the fifth 7.5. I think some people have increased gradually by counting clicks. I am hoping the jump up to 10mg will be ok next week. I am keen to keep increasing as my loss is slow and I don’t want to plateau because I haven’t gone up but on the other hand it is probably sensible to stay on the lowest dose that works.

Official weigh in today after 5 weeks on 7.5 mg and my first 10mg yesterday.

I have at last lost a stone! 🎉🎉🎉

So 6lb in the last 5 weeks. 14 lb in 14 weeks

Sick this morning on the new dose but not too bad.

Congratulations that’s great. I took my 4th shot of 7.5mg on Sunday night and at work last night had terrible vomiting and diarrhoea. I had to come home at 5am. Swore I wouldn’t touch the stuff again. Even though I have 10mg pen in fridge.

Mortigua · 04/06/2024 13:43

Hello , this looks like one for me , I am not sure of when I started but I’ve done 4 weeks on 2.5 plus bonus , same on 5 and now on my 4th week of 7.5 . I’d work that out but I’m tired 🥱
I am at a plateau it seems but then on 7.5 I have lost my mojo a bit (Mounjaro ha ha ) and feeling less like eating less healthy stuff , I get awful cramps and upset stomach if I have anything spicy or creamy so avoiding those but I’ve got really basic tastes almost as if I was pregnant since going up to 7.5, I think I am just beginning to improve a bit but I’ve not wanted salad or veg so much and been really just wanting dry plain foods which makes healthier eating harder and it worries me that it’s not going to be sustainable .

Mortigua · 04/06/2024 13:45

Should have said , I’ve lost over a stone in that time but apart from an initial faster few pounds it’s been very up and down and gradual downward trend . Till the last few weeks where I’m going up and down the same 4 pounds . But then I thtink that happens then the baseline shifts a bit lower and so on,

ACJD · 04/06/2024 13:52

The tiredness I am having is a killer. I have never felt as tired as I did yesterday, even when my children were babies and they are still full on at 5 and 6. I’m really contemplating ending this journey. Have lost 13lbs so far and can’t face eating meals. I snack on things but I’ve no appetite for real food, and feel now I’m loosing out on real nutrition.

RunningAndSinging · 04/06/2024 13:53

Hello @Mortigua - the stalls are so frustrating aren’t they. Have to keep looking at the big picture.

Hope your side effects settle down @ACJD

I'm about to start week 4 of 7.5mg and unsure if to order another month of this or move up. I've lost quite slowly too (just over a stone) but wine/takeaways have crept in too much in May. Definitely eating much much less, the food noise has gone and this morning I've finally dropped into the next stone bracket so it's not all bad. Given me the incentive to reign in the wine and track more. I got an extra dose out of the 2.5mg but couldn't out of the 5mg so I'll see if I can get a week 5 out of the 7.5.

RunningAndSinging · 04/06/2024 14:42

It is hard to decide whether or not to go up. I think I am going to stick to 10 mg for at least two months partly because I am going away in the middle of that time and want to swap over to my new pen before finishing the old one while I am away and also don’t want new side effects for my holiday. But how much weekly weight loss is ‘enough’ and how bad side effects should we put up with?

@ACJD I think you have to be able to face eating healthy food or it is counterproductive. @AccidentallyWesAnderson good luck with the bonus dose. I definitely have my moments eating takeaways etc but definitely less than I would without Mounjaro.

the snacks I eat are healthy but I can’t face cooking or eating meals

Oh definitely, I'd usually have two lots then pick away at the rest. The last takeaway my partner had I couldn't finish my normal portion.

I’m on my first week of 10 mg and there is definitely an acceleration of weight loss this week. I guess it is early days and may well slow back down but it is encouraging that the higher doses are worth persevering for. It’s not been a whole week yet (Monday injections) but I have lost 1.4 kg or 3lb since last Saturday which is loads for me and has taken me under the BMI of 30 threshold.

That’s great!!! I’ve the bonus week of 7.5mg to take then start 10mgs

RunningAndSinging · 09/06/2024 07:11

@ACJD Thanks. Are you feeling a bit more able to eat now? Hope the 10mg works well for you.

Not really, I’m really thinking of stopping. I’m always freezing and exhausted. Scared to move up to 10.

Sandwichgen · 09/06/2024 14:27

I started on Wegovy, and switched two weeks ago to the equivalent dose of MJ because of the Wegovy side effects. No break in between, but no issues.

I have lost a pound a week , 11 pounds in all since I started injecting . Not wonderful, but a lot better than nothing. Side effects on MJ a lot more bearable than W. Just a bit headachey and tired today after last night’s dose, my second.

I will move up to 7.5 when this pen is done, unless I start to lose bigly, or the side effects accumulate

Femeia · 09/06/2024 14:55

I've been on it since February, have done 2.5mg, 5mg x 2 (due to no stock of 7.5) and now 2 weeks of 7.5mg.

In that time I have felt no appetite suppression but have changed my diet and lifestyle and just ploughed on. I lost a lot of weight last year through IF, dieting and lots of walking, so this was meant to see me through the plateau that I'd reached.

It's been a slow process with many weeks of not losing, plus a fortnight's holiday (miraculously only put on 1lb!). I keep expecting the appetite suppression and am disappointed not to get it at 7.5mg. I have a 10mg pen in the fridge so am keeping everything crossed.

In 15 weeks I have gone from 212lbs to 191lbs, so a loss of 19lbs. Not earth shattering but going in the right direction at least. I still have around 35-40lbs to target so am going to keep going. I am saving a reasonable amount on takeaways, alcohol and snacks so I feel that the MJ pays for itself, even if I'm having to do the work myself.

Looking forward to chatting to you all and giving support!

Femeia · 09/06/2024 15:02

Great to hear that the 10mg is doing the trick! I've got 3 more doses of 7.5mg and looking forward to the 10mg. I've had no side effects in terms of nausea etc, but the constipation has been awful and my skin is DREADFUL. I have teenage breakouts and big sore spots on my chin. Vile.

I don't really eat meals either, not because I don't want to but because I wouldn't eat the right things (dh and young adult children at home, lots of carby meals). So I mostly have protein shakes, yogurts, salad veg and Quorn/Squeaky Bean cold cuts (am vegetarian). I've developed a new obsession with flax seeds, pumpkin seeds and chia seeds Smile

RunningAndSinging · 09/06/2024 15:29

Femeia - Flax and chia seeds are good for the omega 3s - I eat those too. Haven’t looked into pumpkin seeds. Sorry to hear about the side effects but well done on all those losses with no appetite suppression noticeable.

Sandwhichgen - was the pharmacy happy with your swap over - which one was it? Interesting to hear that you had no break and started on a higher dose with no issues. I still haven’t lost all that I gained in my two month break - getting closer though.

ACJD - maybe don’t go up to 10 if you are struggling with the side effects at 7.5. You could always count clicks.

I have felt like this on all doses. Been on it since start of March lost a stone. I’m really struggling now with exhaustion, as I work nights too, but have preserved. I have the 10mg in fridge and I’m deciding whether to give it a go.
