Mounjaro - for steady losers

I love the main continuing Mounjaro thread and have learned so much but it is so fast moving that it is sometimes hard to keep up with. I wonder if we could have a little splinter group for some of us who have been on Mounjaro for a while and the weight isn’t falling or hasn’t fallen off.

Maybe criteria of having been on it for at least 8 weeks so used or mostly used the 2.5mg and 5 mg pen and losing up to a maximum of 2 lb a week?

I have been on Mounjaro for 13 weeks (3 weeks on 2.5mg (2lb loss), 6 weeks on 5mg (6lb loss), 4 weeks of 7.5mg (5.5lb loss)) so a total of 13 5lb.

So close to the stone now - I will get there.

Planning to go up to 10mg next week. I did have a bit of vomiting last week and the week before but have been fine this week after my last 7.5mg so keen to go on up especially as I feel the losses are slower than I would like.

The changing numbers of weeks on each dose was because I used the bonus dose on my first pen to double up on week 4 and then used the bonus dose as an extra week at the end of each of the 5 mg and 7.5mg pens.

It would be great to hear from anyone in a similar journey.

Oh no - heartburn doesn’t sound good.

Well I got through the funeral ok thank goodness although by the end of the afternoon I had such abdominal pain that everyone was asking me if I was OK but we left shortly after that and went home to bed pretty promptly. Feeling much better this morning. Don’t know what my plan is but I think I may need a break from Mounjaro unfortunately.

@stealthsquirrelnutkin have you tried it? It looks great but does it record continuously or only when you scan it?

Femeia · 06/07/2024 15:06

Injected my first 10mg dose today - here's hoping it kicks in the appetite suppression.
Is anyone else on higher doses now? I also have a 12.5mg in the fridge as I wanted to keep my ordering consistent and keep enough up front after having to panic order a second 5mg pen when the 7.5mg was delayed.

RunningAndSinging · 07/07/2024 10:57

Hope you feel ok today @Femeia

I spoke to my pharmacist and essentially their advice was to drop down a dose to two which I guess makes sense. Unfortunately because I am away now for two weeks so will have to have a break, I will need to start from scratch when I get back which includes gaining back to BMI of 30. I am not that far under and am unmedicated on holiday so I expect it won’t be a problem. A break it is.

hi all , I am back after a short break waiting for Zavo to approve my prescription. I have really noticed the difference being off it but kept to some habits . The difference in thought pattern is the main thing though the obsession with food and how hard I’ve found to wait while hungry . I think I have to see it as a long term thing or at least longer than I thought .

Flowersandbubblegum · 09/07/2024 08:43

I've just started the 5mg pen and I'm definitely low and slow. 7lbs in 4 weeks. But food noise gone, massive change in eating habits but slow to lose. I wonder if it's due to years and years of yoyo dieting and my body is just like nope... I'm keeping you fat!

Mortigua · 09/07/2024 09:48

It’s been slow for me too. But then a drop . So weeks of the same weight then 3 pounds off sort of thing. But I am actually still a fair bit down compared to the start.
new pen arriving today! Back to hiding it in plain sight in the fridge !

Papergirl1968 · 12/07/2024 06:17

I had diarrhoea and vomiting last night, and have been violently sick again this morning.
I think it’s a bug rather than the mounjaro but I’ve had a lot of heartburn, burps and a heavy stomach all week.
I’m due to inject another 5mg dose tonight and don’t know whether it’s best leaving it a day or two.

Papergirl1968 · 12/07/2024 18:50

I had a routine review with the pharmacist and asked her about whether to take my dose tonight and her advice was to delay for a couple of days. If it’s more than that before I’m back to normal I need to skip this week’s dose completely.
Interestingly she also said leave off my ramipril, metformin and canagliflozin for a couple of days as they make dehydration worse with a vomiting bug.

Mortigua · 12/07/2024 22:57

For metformin I’ve been told there is a small increased risk of something (sorry can’t remember what ) so to not take it if ill with sickness etc . Not sure if that’s the same for everyone on it or how that is with Mounjaro

Papergirl1968 · 13/07/2024 11:41

I think she said it’s because Mounjaro can make you feel a bit sick/cause an upset stomach anyway.
While metformin and the other two cause dehydration.
I only took my anti seizure med this morning. Maybe will take the mounjaro tomorrow or skip a week.
I weighed myself today and was gutted to find that despite eating virtually nothing for two or three days I haven’t lost any more weight.

RunningAndSinging · 21/07/2024 08:05

I am back from my holiday and have gained enough weight (frighteningly fast) to restart from 2.5 mg so that is what I will do once my order arrives. Hoping that the bad side effects were caused by a dodgy batch and not me becoming intolerant to the drug. I guess I will find out. I am not sure if I will push up through the doses so quickly this time. See how I get in once I get to 5mg and decide then. It doesn’t matter if the loss is slow as long as it’s going in the right direction.

I’ve had d&v for two weeks now so have barely eaten and most of what I have eaten has gone right through me.
So how is it possible that on top of the half a stone I’ve lost since starting Mounjaro in May, I’ve only lost a max of 2lbs in the last fortnight? Weight should be dropping off me.
I do feel quite bloated and had terrible indigestion again last night after having sone toast, followed by four bouts of diarrhoea this morning.
It’s either a very persistent bug (very possible as other members of the family have had it and now the cat does too but don’t understand why it’s taking so long to shake off), a reaction to Mounjaro, a very recent food intolerance (maybe to gluten or wheat in bread), or from googling in the middle of the night, which is never a good idea, something potentially serious.
I have my fourth GP appointment this afternoon so will see what they say this time.
Some decent weight loss would have been a silver lining to feeling so rough though.

RunningAndSinging · 24/07/2024 16:31

Oh no @Papergirl1968 that sounds awful. Are you still taking your Mounjaro? I think I would stop in your situation. I am planning to restart tomorrow morning and really hoping not to have a bad reaction. It’s awful feeling so ill. Are the other people with the big getting better?

Papergirl1968 · 24/07/2024 16:47

Just got back from the GP.
The GP thinks it is viral, but may be being made worse by the Mounjaro as everyone else shook it off after a couple of days.
I skipped one dose and took it on Saturday, eight days late. The GP said to leave it now for a couple of weeks.
He’s given me a sick note for a week and says if it doesn’t stop soon I might have to get an IV drip in hospital.
I really hope I don’t have to stop it permanently because I’m diabetic and I need to lose some serious weight and it was great it stopped the food chatter.

I have felt like this on all doses. Been on it since start of March lost a stone. I’m really struggling now with exhaustion, as I work nights too, but have preserved. I have the 10mg in fridge and I’m deciding whether to give it a go.

Hi there!
So I have been a slow and steady loser on Mounjaro. Started July 2024 and have lost a stone and a bit. Ideally one more stone to go, and anything more is a bonus. I have been doing fine with side effects so far UNTIL I started 10mg and OMG that has been horrific. Bloating, appalling sulphurous burps that then made me vomit and a really bad tummy with me up several times in the night. With strong appetite suppression it has been a battle to stay well nourished and hydrated. I am being careful and I know this is not great and I might have to dial this down as 10mg is just too much for me. Will let you know how I get on - feeling pretty awful and wiped out at such a busy time of year too. Plus had my flu jab which made me feel grim as well so not brilliant timing!!! Bon chance everyone :-)

I feel so depressed about it tbh. I've barely listened to anything, a few lbs max in over 6 weeks. I've been eating very little as I feel full and spoken to gp who said they might do some hormone blood tests just in case there's an issue but they don't understand why I'm not losing any weight either!

Some days I'm on 800 calories, some 1200 but nothing is going!! I'm so demoralised. The 2.5mg month I felt sick and achey and very full whereas the 5 hasn't felt different?

@littlemousebigcheese I appreciate this post was month ago, but I am curious to know how the months have been for you since this post. I am where you were at, onto my 5th week, only 2lb down but have had really good suppression throughout. The first two weeks I struggled to eat, was eating around 800cals a day. Last 3 weeks it’s been more like 1200. Either way it’s a lot less than I was eating but hasn’t made a great deal of difference. Just wondered if you carried on with treatment or whether it ended up being a waste of time and money?
