Mounjaro - for steady losers

RunningAndSinging · 29/05/2024 16:28

I love the main continuing Mounjaro thread and have learned so much but it is so fast moving that it is sometimes hard to keep up with. I wonder if we could have a little splinter group for some of us who have been on Mounjaro for a while and the weight isn’t falling or hasn’t fallen off.

Maybe criteria of having been on it for at least 8 weeks so used or mostly used the 2.5mg and 5 mg pen and losing up to a maximum of 2 lb a week?

I have been on Mounjaro for 13 weeks (3 weeks on 2.5mg (2lb loss), 6 weeks on 5mg (6lb loss), 4 weeks of 7.5mg (5.5lb loss)) so a total of 13 5lb.

So close to the stone now - I will get there.

Planning to go up to 10mg next week. I did have a bit of vomiting last week and the week before but have been fine this week after my last 7.5mg so keen to go on up especially as I feel the losses are slower than I would like.

The changing numbers of weeks on each dose was because I used the bonus dose on my first pen to double up on week 4 and then used the bonus dose as an extra week at the end of each of the 5 mg and 7.5mg pens.

It would be great to hear from anyone in a similar journey.

I have Monday as injection day too and I always gain over the weekend. But then I always used to anyway before I was on any sort of medication. Definitely feel more suppression Tuesday - Friday - it does wear off I guess.

I’ve been losing and gaining the same few pounds for weeks now , mainly I know due to my weekend wine habits . I feel I am starting to slip but also not enjoying feeling a bit sick etc and only wanting beige foods . I’m really considering stopping but scared of piling back on what I’ve lost !

RunningAndSinging · 24/06/2024 17:47

How much have you lost?

OP posts:
Mortigua · 24/06/2024 19:26

1 stone 5 pounds since Feb. It’s been lower and it will prob be 1 stone 7-8 pounds by the end of the week . It’s enough that I feel much better but I just wonder if the 7.5 is too much - 10 might be ? I don’t know and I can’t justify the cost for various reasons but at the same time it would be worse to re gain . That WOULD be a waste

Fitintomajeans · 24/06/2024 20:28

I found cutting out bread helped me, still losing slowly but it's coming off. Before when I was eating bread I would lose and gain the same pound over and over again. I cut it out and the next week I dropped five pounds.

I've also not had any food suppression, I get hungry and want to eat but it's good healthy foods and not rubbish.

Mortigua · 24/06/2024 22:21

That’s interesting , what’s weird is I would never usually eat bread but I feel like I can’t think what to eat since moving up to 7.5 and so end up with toast by way of something to fill a gap. Not sure if that makes sense but for me it’s like eating for the sake of fuel but because I feel a bit sick I can’t cope with healthier stuff . Maybe I need to go back down to 5 as I was doing ok there ? So hard to know and I worry about having to start over if I stop at this point.

Papergirl1968 · 24/06/2024 22:44

I’m not losing as much as I’d hoped - maybe about 5lbs since starting six weeks ago, despite eating a good third less than I did previously and much healthier - by my standards. I’ve had the occasional ice cream or protein desert. I’m eating more fruit. I don’t eat veg. I’ve swopped white bread for seeded wholemeal.
I may try reducing bread further as I had egg on toast for my tea yesterday and had the worst heartburn last night.
I’ve cut out fizzy drinks and coffee too but probably not drinking as much water as I should. I have a couple of mugs of semi skimmed milk a day but thinking that can’t be too bad?
Today I had grapes for a late breakfast while at work, two protein pancakes for a late lunch, a roast for tea and a small chocolate desert (which was surprisingly high in calories so I won’t be buying any more of them). With a mug or two of cold milk.
Previously I would have had toast or cornflakes for breakfast, probably a choc chip muffin at work, ham sandwiches with crisps for lunch, maybe an ice cream after, the roast for tea, and a family sized bar of chocolate.
The weight should be dropping off - but isn’t.

Papergirl1968 · 24/06/2024 22:46

And my work uniform is still a bit on the tight side so I know I’m not losing inches either. Could do with getting more exercise but I’ve been doing a lot of gardening.

RunningAndSinging · 25/06/2024 06:52

Official weigh in day and 1kg down in a week after my stall last week. 1.9 kg or just over 4lb in three weeks on 10mg so far. I try to avoid bread in the week but we often have a baguette for lunch at the weekend and I guess it is one of my downfalls.

Oh dear - my body is rebelling finally this evening. The day after my 17th dose and 4th 10mg dose - it seems so random. I have sulphur burps, horrible diarrhoea and tummy ache and I feel quite sick. I was sick once this morning but my other symptoms have been building up through the day and I haven’t been able to eat much dinner. I have taken some paracetamol and hope to feel better in the morning. Seriously considering dropping back down to 7.5 mg next week by counting clicks.

RunningAndSinging · 26/06/2024 12:16

Well I seem to have recovered now with a bit of help from some Imodium. Sulphur burps have gone as well thank goodness. That was pretty nasty though. Will definitely stick with 7.5 at least until after my holiday and then maybe creep back up gradually if the weight isn’t moving.

i did lose 1.5 kg in 24 hours! I am sure that was the dehydration though and I shouldn’t take much notice.

Hello all, so interesting to read about the snacking and low blood sugar - that's exactly what's happening to me. Losing about a pound a week, although in the middle of a stall at the moment waiting to drop below 220lb for the first time in years. On 7.5 at the moment, started in March and lost 20lbs so far - another 60 to go.

RunningAndSinging · 29/06/2024 07:06

Well done @Speedweed stalls are frustrating but, looking at the big picture, you are getting there.

I am deliberating between cutting my dose in half next week to 5 mg or doing 7.5 mg. I don’t know if my current pen is more potent or if I just have had a random reaction this week but it wasn’t fun and I can’t be as ill next Tuesday as I am going to a funeral. I think I will do 5 this week and 7.5 next week if all is well. Worst that can happen is that my appetite come back in the short term - or I guess that the 5 mg makes me ill too but if the 5 day half life is working as it should then it shouldn’t be worse than Friday this week which was fine.

Sleepyquest · 29/06/2024 08:35

I have put on weight this week - assuming it's the heat but still a bit disheartening!

ACJD · 29/06/2024 18:06

I’ve cut back to 5mgs and feel so much better. I’m still getting enough appetite suppression but I’m able to eat better.

Mortigua · 29/06/2024 18:58

I think 5 mg was my best too. I was losing and still able to enjoy food and make healthier choices . I think I’ll go back to it in fact . Just need to afford it somehow longer term as I think I may be on it for a long while potentially. Just a week after stopping and I’ve noticed aches and pains coming back: not sure if I’ve regained weight (not by the scales but maybe it’s the distribution as I feel bigger ) but I don’t feel good off it either !

Speedweed · 30/06/2024 12:30

I'll be interested to hear how everyone dropping down to 5 does. Am on 7.5 at the moment, and feeling shattered and nauseous for most of the week which is horrible, and a bit spacey - maybe low blood sugar? I didn't have high blood sugar to start with, so wondering if mounjaro is making it too low.

Papergirl1968 · 30/06/2024 16:31

I had a McDonald’s on Friday followed a few hours later by a stomach upset, then yesterday I had sausage and egg sandwiches for tea and an awful night’s sleep, with indigestion and feeling sick.
So far today I haven’t wanted anything as my stomach feels really heavy still.
I know these high fat meals aren’t suiting me but I’m such a fussy eater - I don’t like veg and will only eat really plain food - that options are limited.
I guess I need to have smaller, lighter meals and stop when I’m full.

Femeia · 30/06/2024 18:48

I've just taken the bonus dose of my first 7.5mg pen and will move onto 10mg next week.
In 18 weeks I've lost 27lbs, not amazing but not terrible either. Still no real appetite suppression or other symptoms, but it does keep me accountable, knowing that I'm taking this drug and investing this money. The fact of a weekly injection keeps me from going off the rails diet wise. I'm also now in a pattern of food that works for my weight loss at least, although not sure quite how sustainable it will be longer term.

Jibberoo · 30/06/2024 20:34

Hi everyone hope you don't mind a new by joining. I'm in wegovy and in my 6th dose (I've gone up from the starting dose). I've only lost about 8lbs in 6 weeks and it's definitely stalled. I want to change to mounjaro but I have another .5 pen in the fridge and then I need to take a break so I've got at least 6 weeks of wegovy to go. I'll be interested to see if there is a difference. I don't have any side effects - occasional light nausea but probably from not eating as it goes away when I have something to eat.
I do feel fuller quicker but beyond the 1st week the food noise is back. I hope the slow and steady continues though. While it's only been 8lbs that's a lot more than I've managed with any other approach this past year.

Also getting the sugar cravings - I try to eat veg only so can understand now why I'm craving chocolate. Think I'll up by plant based carbs a bit. Lentils and beans here I come 😂

RunningAndSinging · 30/06/2024 21:03

Well done everyone keeping going. I am on day 7 after my bad side effects dose and have been picking on bread today and am feeling fine. Not sure whether the 5 mg will have enough effect but we will see.

I’ve lost my first half a stone! (Has taken six weeks)

RunningAndSinging · 01/07/2024 09:17

Fantastic, great milestone @Papergirl1968

OP posts:
RunningAndSinging · 02/07/2024 06:55

A 1.1kg/2.4lb loss this week which is a lot for me. Not worth all the side effects. I took a half dose from the pen yesterday (5mg) and have woken up to similar sulphur burps, vomiting, tummy pains and diarrhoea this morning as I has last week. Oh dear. Not sure what to do. I had so many weeks with minimal issues. Maybe it is this specific pen that is the problem. I have two 10mg doses left in my previous pen which I was going to take on holiday. Perhaps I don’t take it on holiday after all and restart with new pens after a break on 2.5 when I get back.

I am hoping I will not be too bad this afternoon for the funeral. I have started on the Imodium early I guess. So hopefully that will have had time to work.

Papergirl1968 · 02/07/2024 20:40

I have had awful heartburn especially at night since going up to 5mg.
Today all I ate was two satsumas until I had my tea, which was a small portion of scampi and chips, and I still felt bloated so wasn’t even hungry for that.
I also don’t think I’m drinking enough as I also cut out coffee and fizzy drinks a few weeks ago because I was getting a few issues with urge incontinence so I’m sticking to semi skimmed milk and water. I did buy a strawberry flavoured milk for a change but can’t drink too much of it obviously because of the cals although it’s no added sugar.
