Please note: Mounjaro can only be taken if your BMI is above 30.

Pointers for newbies:

1 - For taking your first dose you need to twist the pen a lot to get to 1! The instructions say prime each time you take a dose, but actually Eli Lilly have confirmed you only need to prime for the first ever use of a pen. (The video posted says every use, but this isn't true!)

2 - When injecting, hold down the button until the number goes back to 0. Once at 0, keep holding down the button and count to 5 with the needle still in so no medication is lost!

3 - Your first dose may not have an immediate effect. For some people the effects build slowly. It could take 3 or 4 days to notice anything, it could take a few weeks. Some people don't feel the meds working until they get to 5mg. See titration chart which shows how the medication builds up in your system. Also below you can plot the effect of your doses.
glp1plotter.com/

4 - 2.5mg isn't a therapeutic dose, meaning you aren’t meant to lose on 2.5mg. You need to start on 2.5mg to get your body used to the drug and gradually introduce it into your system and get used to any side effects.

5 - Not everyone loses a lot in the first few weeks. Don't feel discouraged if you don't lose a lot initially. Again, you might need a higher dose to start losing. Also, inches can be lost without anything showing on the scales. Start your journey by taking measurements and check them as you go along.

6 - If you do lose a lot in the first few weeks, please don't assume you will continue losing at this rate. The first few weeks it is usually water weight that is lost, after than a good weight loss is about 2lbs a week. Some weeks you might not lose anything, but this is ok too…again, taking measurements might show inches lost instead.

7 - Constipation, coldness, nausea, diarrhea, headaches, aches, are side effects. There may be be other side effects also. Read info here :

www.medicines.org.uk/emc/product/15481/pil#about-medicine

8 - Once you take your first dose you can choose to keep your pen in the fridge or somewhere else. It's up to you.

9 - Don't reuse any needles as this could risk infection. If you damage a needle or one isn't working, you can buy a pack of about 100 spares. www.chemist-4-u.com/carepoint-pen-needles-31g-4mm-pack-of-100?gclid=Cj0KCQjwiYOxBhC5ARIsAIvdH51rLZBVFQxuvS7mDJooegtK8BMiyT0PwREMRHhH_1atfQIo8TEbsmkaAkA0EALw_wcB

Also there is a 5th dose in each pen. To extract it you can either try a hard twist or use an insulin needle.
medbasic.co.uk/bd-micro-fine-30g-1ml-syringes-needles

10 - Protein is important as eating less protein can cause muscle wastage and hair loss. Try to have at least 100g a day.

11 - Some natural sources of protein:
www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/best-sources-protein
www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/321522#high-protein-foods

12 - You can use supplements, some that people use are magnesium(for sleep and constipation), protein(to reduce muscle wastage), collagen (skin elasticity), aloe vera(for constipation), electrolytes.

13 - Drink lota of water. Water helps with the weight loss. Drink at least 2ltrs a day. Preferably 3ltrs.

14 - Don't be afraid to feel hungry. It is entirely normal and healthy to feel hungry. Just eat something. Treat it as an opportunity to start good habits around hunger. Eat a nice balanced snack or a meal if it's a meal time. It's ok.

15 - Does it makes any difference where you inject? yes it does! Drugs get absorbed at different rates depending on injection site

In order of fastest absorption, it goes:
• Tummy
• Arms
• Thighs
furthet reading about injection sites and the effects: www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/316618

16 - Abdominal side-effects are much easier to control with smaller meals. For example, having 4 small meals in the day vs 2 big meals can have an improvement in nausea and burps.

17 - You can track your calories / protein on apps such as My fitnessPal, Carb Manager or Nutracheck. Nutracheck is quite useful and easy to find foods /build recipes.

18 - Some of the places you can order from are:

MedExpress 2.5mg and 5mg. £149.99. 7.5mg £169. Use code STARTNOW. Ask for other codes if that doesn't work.
The Family Chemist 2.5mg and 5mg -£149. 7.5mg £169.
Simple online pharmacy - £159 2.5mg £179 5mg
Bolt pharmacy 2.5mg £125, 5mg £179. 7.5mg £189
Asda 2.5mg and 5mg £184. 7.5mg £189
Boots £219 +
Chemist4U £179 +
Superdrugs

19 - If you want to switch suppliers, make sure you have pics of your Mounjaro box with your name and dose. This will come in useful when other suppliers ask for evidence.

Hey all. I've just realised that the 5mg pen I had delivered last week has an expiry date of June 24. Does this mean the end of June? I still have 2 doses of 2.5mg in my current pen, 3rd dose due tomorrow. Have some of the 5mg had an extension on expiry, too? x

Flapearedknave · 29/05/2024 14:33

For everyone concerned about having not lost a lot.

I was a super responder to ozempic so expected the same with this. That hasn't been the case.
I am on my 3rd 7.5 and have lost 16lb altogether. However, the bulk of that has been on 7.5 and making up for the gain on holiday (assume a lot of water weight as it had gone by day 9)

So, hold on in there. I am having better losses now on 7.5.

lurkylurk · 29/05/2024 14:35

@PomchiK

It's the end of the month, so end of June. There haven't been any extensions of dates for the 5mg, I have the same issue as have a full 5mg pen but still got half of current one (and bonus dose) so not sure what to do on that. I realised after that I should have ordered a 7.5mg one, could always have taken 5mg doses from it anyway but it wouldn't be expiring until next year!

imnottoofussed · 29/05/2024 14:36

@RagzRebooted I've not tried those flavours but there were some in my sample pack I didn't like. The cloudiness and froth disappears after a few minutes and it all dissolves. I also blend mine with a handheld milk frother thingy. I prefer mine diluted to about 700-1000ml with ice and find it's more refreshing and less sweet this way.

GingerNugget · 29/05/2024 14:36

@Soukmyfalafel I agree it is impossible to lose so much weight and if they are it is likely they are losing more than just fat if they are. It is more the expectation some have that they should be able to sustain that kind of dramatic loss week after week and then they all encourage each other to cut more calories, up their dose to the max or start using it more frequently than prescribed. 2lbs is about right for a healthy loss although obviously weight loss can be kind of idiosyncratic!

I have concerns about stopping the medication as well. I do think the best plan is to use the pen in combination with a sustainable lifestyle change including exercise and the food you eat. Something you feel you can stick to long term. I've read that regular exercise is the best way to maintain glp-1 weight loss as exercise can have similar effects on blood sugar and insulin sensitivity and I've seen supplements like berberine and probiotics mentioned which I mean to look more into myself.

lurkylurk · 29/05/2024 14:39

@Flapearedknave

That's good to hear, although I've had a terrible time trying to get up to 5mg! I think I'll just have to be very careful with what I eat and try and get more sleep, haven't been sleeping well (common for me) which isn't helping. Took 3.75mg this week, finally seemed fine on that dose so took another 1.25mg a few days later to make it 5mg but a bit spread out and felt terrible the whole of yesterday!

Oh well, hoping will get there, just taking it slow.

I am always exhausted the day after injecting, so i always do it at a weekend. I have to literally laze about all day!

lurkylurk · 29/05/2024 14:42

@Flapearedknave

This was nausea, headache, dizziness, diarrhoea, the whole shebang! The only encouraging thing is that I felt like that first time took 3.75mg but that dose was ok this week, it was the extra little bit that did it!

PomchiK · 29/05/2024 14:45

Thank you @lurkylurk I may email the provider as at least one dose will be in July (after expiry) it's a bit cheeky on their part 🙄We will see what they say

RagzRebooted · 29/05/2024 14:49

My 10mg arrived from MedEx with a note to say the expiry date has been extended by 5 months. It didn't mention batch number on the note and my pen expires next year, so I'm not sure why they included it.
Did my first 5mg dose this morning. Hoping I won't feel too bad on it, I seem to have mostly settled on 3.75mg and taking it every 5 days for the last week or two with only occasional symptoms (loose stool, nausea and headaches).
I don't seem to be losing the fatigue though. I even had a B12 shot to see if that helps (colleague does them privately) and it made a small difference for less than a week. So probably didn't do anything really.

Anyone using nutracheck know how to amend the protein goal? Mine has set me a calorie goal of 1200 and protein 52.5 which seems a bit low as I know everyone's recommending 100g protein

My nutracheck is showing these same figures for calories and protein. Re protein, I just continue with the protein intake until the balance (“left”) shows approx. -47.5.

I haven’t tried to change this but if you need to change anything, use the desktop version, not the app, as it has more editing features.

I noticed that MedExpress haven't processed my order with the 20% discount yet, still says awaiting prescription. Now they've removed that discount code I'm wondering if they'll back track on it and refund my order!

Mines progressed to awaiting dispatch

peachbelly · 29/05/2024 15:04

Longtime lurker on these threads finally taking the plunge - my order got approved this morning! I've been struggling with this for decades, I'm 45 and have no idea what it's like to not feel self-conscious and slightly uncomfortable all the time. I lost a bit of weight last year (approx 1 stone) which took what felt like a superhuman effort over about 12 months. Then thanks to work and family stress and a house move I stopped paying attention to it and when I weighed myself to do the questionnaire I had put on double what I lost in six months! I'm over 250lb and I've got about 7 stone to lose at least.

I'm really worried about having tummy problems so it's been so helpful to read about everyone's experiences with side effects. This has been an invaluable resource!

GrimDamnFanjo · 29/05/2024 15:09

MedExpress seem to have just joined TopCashback with a new customer discount of 10% - I that's related...

lurkylurk · 29/05/2024 15:13

@RagzRebooted

I suspect that was a mistake as it's only the 2.5mg that have been extended. Was hoping they'd do the same for 5mg but no mention of it yet anyway, as I still have another a full 5mg pen and not enough time to use it!

QueenOfHiraeth · 29/05/2024 15:20

@RagzRebooted I also made the mistake of putting a Peach Tea Clear Way in the blender and it wasn't nice, took ages to settle. I just do mine in a shaker now but don't like that flavour, it's very sweet and synthetic to me although, what do I know, I like the Vimto one Grin

AgathaMystery · 29/05/2024 15:33

Hello all… well done on all the losses, maintains & NSV.

Day 4 of my all inclusive holiday & I’ve managed 3 sips of a cocktail and 2 half puddings…. It’s not impacted my holiday one bit and I seem to be maintaining my weight.

none of my family have noticed my weight loss… which is fine but also, Y’know.

PurpleRain25 · 29/05/2024 15:39

Sorry to just jump on the thread! Have been a silent follower for a while - about 2.5 weeks in to my Mounjaro journey 😊

As a few others have mentioned, there seems to be a bit of a delay with MedExpress? I ordered the 5mg pen on Monday and it was "authorised" pretty quickly (which I thought might hold things up, as I had ordered my first pen with Voy and they obviously needed to verify my prescription). It then changed to "medicine dispensed" first thing yesterday morning and is still awaiting dispatch? It just seems quite long as I know they are usually pretty sharp at getting stuff sent out! 🤔Not overly complaining though as I don't work Fridays so would rather be home when it's going to arrive haha 😊

lurkylurk · 29/05/2024 15:39

@AgathaMystery

Glad you're having a lovely time! Re. family noticing, they may have noticed and just don't want to be passing comments on people's bodies?

Also what I've noticed is that when I was fairly slim, losing 10 pounds would make a massive difference, whereas now, I've lost 10 pounds and 2 inches off my waist and no-one would know. Even I wouldn't know if my belt and the scales weren't telling me!

I suspect I'll need to have lost at least 2, maybe even 2 and a half stone before it's noticeable, and before I go down a dress size (I'm tall). There is a tipping point where your losses get more and more noticeable, even when they are smaller losses I think.

wonderingwhatsnext · 29/05/2024 15:40

My med express order from this morning with the discount code has just been dispatched, so they seem to be honoring orders.

lurkylurk · 29/05/2024 15:41

@PurpleRain25

They may have just got a bit backlogged with the Bank Holiday and also with lots of new people starting!

That's very true, I keep forgetting Monday was a bank holiday! 😊

MsClittirati · 29/05/2024 16:00

@FlappyFish could I have the fb link also please ?

Pinkbendyman · 29/05/2024 16:07

I started Mounjaro 2.5mg 2 weeks ago and have already noticed really good results (apart from the constipation!!)
But (big but) I’ve come to use it today for the 3rd dose and the pen would not prime, even after 3 attempts as explained in Step 9 on the instruction leaflet. It worked absolutely fine for doses 1 and 2. I ordered it from Asda.
Has this happened to anyone else and what can I do please?
