Please note: Mounjaro can only be taken if your BMI is above 30.

Pointers for newbies:

1 - For taking your first dose you need to twist the pen a lot to get to 1! The instructions say prime each time you take a dose, but actually Eli Lilly have confirmed you only need to prime for the first ever use of a pen. (The video posted says every use, but this isn't true!)

2 - When injecting, hold down the button until the number goes back to 0. Once at 0, keep holding down the button and count to 5 with the needle still in so no medication is lost!

3 - Your first dose may not have an immediate effect. For some people the effects build slowly. It could take 3 or 4 days to notice anything, it could take a few weeks. Some people don't feel the meds working until they get to 5mg. See titration chart which shows how the medication builds up in your system. Also below you can plot the effect of your doses.
glp1plotter.com/

4 - 2.5mg isn't a therapeutic dose, meaning you aren’t meant to lose on 2.5mg. You need to start on 2.5mg to get your body used to the drug and gradually introduce it into your system and get used to any side effects.

5 - Not everyone loses a lot in the first few weeks. Don't feel discouraged if you don't lose a lot initially. Again, you might need a higher dose to start losing. Also, inches can be lost without anything showing on the scales. Start your journey by taking measurements and check them as you go along.

6 - If you do lose a lot in the first few weeks, please don't assume you will continue losing at this rate. The first few weeks it is usually water weight that is lost, after than a good weight loss is about 2lbs a week. Some weeks you might not lose anything, but this is ok too…again, taking measurements might show inches lost instead.

7 - Constipation, coldness, nausea, diarrhea, headaches, aches, are side effects. There may be be other side effects also. Read info here :

www.medicines.org.uk/emc/product/15481/pil#about-medicine

8 - Once you take your first dose you can choose to keep your pen in the fridge or somewhere else. It's up to you.

9 - Don't reuse any needles as this could risk infection. If you damage a needle or one isn't working, you can buy a pack of about 100 spares. www.chemist-4-u.com/carepoint-pen-needles-31g-4mm-pack-of-100?gclid=Cj0KCQjwiYOxBhC5ARIsAIvdH51rLZBVFQxuvS7mDJooegtK8BMiyT0PwREMRHhH_1atfQIo8TEbsmkaAkA0EALw_wcB

Also there is a 5th dose in each pen. To extract it you can either try a hard twist or use an insulin needle.
medbasic.co.uk/bd-micro-fine-30g-1ml-syringes-needles

10 - Protein is important as eating less protein can cause muscle wastage and hair loss. Try to have at least 100g a day.

11 - Some natural sources of protein:
www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/best-sources-protein
www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/321522#high-protein-foods

12 - You can use supplements, some that people use are magnesium(for sleep and constipation), protein(to reduce muscle wastage), collagen (skin elasticity), aloe vera(for constipation), electrolytes.

13 - Drink lota of water. Water helps with the weight loss. Drink at least 2ltrs a day. Preferably 3ltrs.

14 - Don't be afraid to feel hungry. It is entirely normal and healthy to feel hungry. Just eat something. Treat it as an opportunity to start good habits around hunger. Eat a nice balanced snack or a meal if it's a meal time. It's ok.

15 - Does it makes any difference where you inject? yes it does! Drugs get absorbed at different rates depending on injection site

In order of fastest absorption, it goes:
• Tummy
• Arms
• Thighs
furthet reading about injection sites and the effects: www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/316618

16 - Abdominal side-effects are much easier to control with smaller meals. For example, having 4 small meals in the day vs 2 big meals can have an improvement in nausea and burps.

17 - You can track your calories / protein on apps such as My fitnessPal, Carb Manager or Nutracheck. Nutracheck is quite useful and easy to find foods /build recipes.

18 - Some of the places you can order from are:

MedExpress 2.5mg and 5mg. £149.99. 7.5mg £169. Use code STARTNOW. Ask for other codes if that doesn't work.
The Family Chemist 2.5mg and 5mg -£149. 7.5mg £169.
Simple online pharmacy - £159 2.5mg £179 5mg
Bolt pharmacy 2.5mg £125, 5mg £179. 7.5mg £189
Asda 2.5mg and 5mg £184. 7.5mg £189
Boots £219 +
Chemist4U £179 +
Superdrugs

19 - If you want to switch suppliers, make sure you have pics of your Mounjaro box with your name and dose. This will come in useful when other suppliers ask for evidence.

@R4ch402 Yeah that is exactly the kind of thing I am seeing on Facebook and its really concerning. I will probably leave myself as overall it doesn't seem a healthy space especially if people like yourself offering some reason just get shut down.

One possible consequence to the misuse of these medications is that they could end up more restricted if people are abusing them and ending up unwell meaning it will be much harder and more expensive for anyone to get them.

Edited

Not sure if you're aware but we have a Mumsnet FB Group for mounjaro. If you want to join please let me know and I can send you the link.

Baldatbirth · 29/05/2024 11:16

I am feeling a bit down today. After reading everyone's losses etc... I realise that I am not losing as much.

I've definitely lost 7 pounds. I think I have lost 2 more this month. I am going up to 7.5 tomorrow. I just feel like my body isn't working. I am eating alot left. I started logging my calories and was averaging about 1200. Some days I'd have more and others less.

I wish I had the stone loss that others have had. I started at over 15 stone. I am hoping the 7.5 helps me to lose some.

My son has been really good and keeps saying I look so much slimmer. He said it's really impressive. But I just feel bloated, fat and a lost cause.

I am hoping this feeling won't last forever.

I'm in the same boat, I've lost 10lbs and I'm on Week 3 of 7.5. Hoping I lose more on higher doses. It is a bit of a downer when you read about people losing 3 stone in 3 months but just remember its a marathon not a sprint. But I do understand the feeling you have.

Soukmyfalafel · 29/05/2024 11:35

Rulay · 27/05/2024 19:23

It was that hateful thread in AIBU last week that set me on this track! Basically I'm spending £180 a month to lose weight out of spite 😆

This made me laugh. Did someone really say that? The thing is I'm not particularly wealthy like some people would think. I am spending some of my paltry savings and not buying any clothes or other treats. My hair looks like shit because I'm not getting it sorted. I would have had to buy clothes if I stayed fat as none of them fit.

I guess if you have made an effort and worked hard/had to battle with hunger to stay thin, its annoying some people come along and just kill their appetite and succeed. But surely the common goal here is everyone is healthier and society is functioning better. You can't expect everyone to stay fat and unhealthy with a failing, overloaded health system because you like feeling a bit superior.

@R4ch402 Thanks that link would be great!

Please could you share that with me too 😊

Flower79 · 29/05/2024 11:39

Does anyone have any discount closes to share for the 5m please? 🙏

Madferitchick · 29/05/2024 11:40

@R4ch402 I'd love the Facebook group link too if poss please!? 😊

lurkylurk · 29/05/2024 11:46

@montysma1

I think the MedExpress reply was probably just a generic answer. They sell many different medications so they probably just answer about not knowing when it will be "back in stock" to any query about out of stock stuff that they don't have an arrival date for, I don't think anywhere has had it in stock yet as it hasn't actually arrived in the UK yet.

Click2pharmacy says 12.5mg is in stock, but I believe they said the same about 7.5mg before it actually was.

lurkylurk · 29/05/2024 11:51

@Flower79

PHARMSTOCK20 is giving 20% off at MedExpress.

@GingerNugget and Rach who I can’t tag.

Yep. I commented quite early on that it would be very easy to end up with an ED from MJ. It makes it very possible to not eat at all if you have high suppression. There is no interest in food. Nothing.

Some of the FB groups can be bloody dangerous. People who literally have shakes and no food. It’s swapping one type of unhealthy for another. It reminds me of Superskinny versus Supersized if anyone remembers that.

I have muted them all for now. I get that weight loss can be addictive. But it’s utterly unsustainable.

We don’t have that on the MN group. 😂 You may just get to see what some of us look like :)

We don’t have that on our MN one lol.

R4ch402 · 29/05/2024 12:02

Ah man, @FlappyFish do you have the correct link for the FB group?

Sabblue · 29/05/2024 12:06

ObsidianTree · 29/05/2024 01:30

I just tried it and it worked! Thanks ☺️

@ObsidianTree can I just ask was this your first order from medexpress? Just tried using this discount code and it rejected saying its only for new users? Thanks

RagzRebooted · 29/05/2024 12:06

@Sabblue yes I get more headaches now, I'm prone to them anyway but had an actual migraine a few weeks ago, though that coincided with the pill free break on my contraceptive pill which I blamed at the time. I've found often eating something helps, if electrolytes don't. Sometimes I think it may be a blood sugar thing.

GingerNugget · 29/05/2024 12:10

@FlappyFish Yeah it is quite scary but I can totally see how people can be pulled into it and just get seduced by the promise of rapid loss, I probably would as well if I hadn't already been down that path in the past. Anyone going on the open facebook groups should be very selective on what they take on from what people post there! I would like to be losing on average 1 - 2 lbs a week over a period of a year I know that some weeks you stall and others you can have bigger losses on the scale but to me that feel sustainable and anything else will be a bonus but hopefully not at the price of longer term sustainability and health.

GingerNugget · 29/05/2024 12:17

@R4ch402 Not working for me either, I shall look back later and hopefully get the link then.

MelissaLouRocks · 29/05/2024 12:26

BlackFriYay · 29/05/2024 08:44

Fantastic work hunting down that code, @MelissaLouRocks . Thank you! What a touch. My account is locked until the 3rd but if the code expires on the 4th I should be able to sneak an order in just in time.

I noticed you mentioned being Audhd and keeping lots of notes, that tickled me and reminds me very much of my best friend who is autistic. He's the most organised and on the ball person I've ever known. He travels a lot and makes notes of absolutely everything, keeping an itinerary on him at all times. We are going to Krakow in October and I'm so pleased it's him I'm going with as my (just ADHD) means I'm the polar opposite to him in terms of organisation. I'm like a headless chicken 24-7.

Do you find that your ASD and ADHD almost battle against one another sometimes? I ask as that seems to be the case with my DS who is completely overwhelmed at the minute.

He got a diagnosis of autism age 3, inherited by his dear old dad, and will be having a further assessment for ADHD next week (I'm diagnosed myself) although it is pretty much guaranteed he has it (it was spotted by his teacher, who also has ADHD)

There is a lot of us neurospicy folk about isn't there?!

I hope you're doing OK. I saw your update about the impact reducing your morphine was having on your mood. You've done incredibly well to titrate down as much as you have, and I say that in awe as I'm currently titrating down an antidepressant at a snails pace and it's kicking my arse!

You know me, don't you lol. Absolutely they battle against one another, so organised but then have to make lists for lists etc, then lose them. Both sides drive the other mad!

I always felt like a square peg in a round hole when I was younger, it was only when I did lots of reading after my first was diagnosed that I got assessed for ADHD. When the autism was confirmed 5 years ago, all the kids said "no shit, Sherlock!". We're all the same to varying degrees, and you're right, seem to be lots of us about. Or is it just we realise it's not something that should elicit shame as some people think?

Thank you for saying how well I've done, it helps more than you know. My brother doesn't know about MJ, but when I tried to tell him about the morphine he just said "about bloody time", and that hurts. Tbh I've had a tougher time in the past with anti depressants, so don't do yourself down. None of this is easy!!

Nooneknowsbutme · 29/05/2024 12:26

Just used the recommended insulin needles to get the bonus dose out of my 1st 5mg pen, was super easy.
I failed miserably at the 'hard twist' method at the end of the 2.5mg, the mechanism just fell apart 🤣

In week 9
3lb away from a 2 stone loss which is wild!

My MyProtein clear whey arrived yesterday, just tried some (Pink Grapefruit) and I'm really not sure... It went cloudy and then cleared with a froth on (it wouldn't mix so I blended it) and it smells weird.
Very sweet. I may have just wasted money on this! Haven't tried the other flavour yet (cloudy lemonade).

WoolyMammoth55 · 29/05/2024 12:40

@Sabblue are you drinking enough, love? And are you taking electrolytes?

I fill up a big 2L bottle on my desk every morning with electrolytes splashed in, and make sure it's empty by 5pm. Hot drinks and evening water are all extra.

Staying hydrated really keeps the headaches away for me - hopefully might help you too.

chesterlestreet · 29/05/2024 12:47

9 weeks in, moved to 7.5 yesterday and spent the whole night awake (or that's what it seemed like). Am wrecked today. Has anyone experienced this and was it a temporary blip?

I ordered the sample packs, they did all the flavours in sachets for about £20, that way I could find a favourite flavour.
