Please note: Mounjaro can only be taken if your BMI is above 30.

Pointers for newbies:

1 - For taking your first dose you need to twist the pen a lot to get to 1! The instructions say prime each time you take a dose, but actually Eli Lilly have confirmed you only need to prime for the first ever use of a pen. (The video posted says every use, but this isn't true!)

2 - When injecting, hold down the button until the number goes back to 0. Once at 0, keep holding down the button and count to 5 with the needle still in so no medication is lost!

3 - Your first dose may not have an immediate effect. For some people the effects build slowly. It could take 3 or 4 days to notice anything, it could take a few weeks. Some people don't feel the meds working until they get to 5mg. See titration chart which shows how the medication builds up in your system. Also below you can plot the effect of your doses.
glp1plotter.com/

4 - 2.5mg isn't a therapeutic dose, meaning you aren’t meant to lose on 2.5mg. You need to start on 2.5mg to get your body used to the drug and gradually introduce it into your system and get used to any side effects.

5 - Not everyone loses a lot in the first few weeks. Don't feel discouraged if you don't lose a lot initially. Again, you might need a higher dose to start losing. Also, inches can be lost without anything showing on the scales. Start your journey by taking measurements and check them as you go along.

6 - If you do lose a lot in the first few weeks, please don't assume you will continue losing at this rate. The first few weeks it is usually water weight that is lost, after than a good weight loss is about 2lbs a week. Some weeks you might not lose anything, but this is ok too…again, taking measurements might show inches lost instead.

7 - Constipation, coldness, nausea, diarrhea, headaches, aches, are side effects. There may be be other side effects also. Read info here :

www.medicines.org.uk/emc/product/15481/pil#about-medicine

8 - Once you take your first dose you can choose to keep your pen in the fridge or somewhere else. It's up to you.

9 - Don't reuse any needles as this could risk infection. If you damage a needle or one isn't working, you can buy a pack of about 100 spares. www.chemist-4-u.com/carepoint-pen-needles-31g-4mm-pack-of-100?gclid=Cj0KCQjwiYOxBhC5ARIsAIvdH51rLZBVFQxuvS7mDJooegtK8BMiyT0PwREMRHhH_1atfQIo8TEbsmkaAkA0EALw_wcB

Also there is a 5th dose in each pen. To extract it you can either try a hard twist or use an insulin needle.
medbasic.co.uk/bd-micro-fine-30g-1ml-syringes-needles

10 - Protein is important as eating less protein can cause muscle wastage and hair loss. Try to have at least 100g a day.

11 - Some natural sources of protein:
www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/best-sources-protein
www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/321522#high-protein-foods

12 - You can use supplements, some that people use are magnesium(for sleep and constipation), protein(to reduce muscle wastage), collagen (skin elasticity), aloe vera(for constipation), electrolytes.

13 - Drink lota of water. Water helps with the weight loss. Drink at least 2ltrs a day. Preferably 3ltrs.

14 - Don't be afraid to feel hungry. It is entirely normal and healthy to feel hungry. Just eat something. Treat it as an opportunity to start good habits around hunger. Eat a nice balanced snack or a meal if it's a meal time. It's ok.

15 - Does it makes any difference where you inject? yes it does! Drugs get absorbed at different rates depending on injection site

In order of fastest absorption, it goes:
• Tummy
• Arms
• Thighs
furthet reading about injection sites and the effects: www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/316618

16 - Abdominal side-effects are much easier to control with smaller meals. For example, having 4 small meals in the day vs 2 big meals can have an improvement in nausea and burps.

17 - You can track your calories / protein on apps such as My fitnessPal, Carb Manager or Nutracheck. Nutracheck is quite useful and easy to find foods /build recipes.

18 - Some of the places you can order from are:

MedExpress 2.5mg and 5mg. £149.99. 7.5mg £169. Use code STARTNOW. Ask for other codes if that doesn't work.
The Family Chemist 2.5mg and 5mg -£149. 7.5mg £169.
Simple online pharmacy - £159 2.5mg £179 5mg
Bolt pharmacy 2.5mg £125, 5mg £179. 7.5mg £189
Asda 2.5mg and 5mg £184. 7.5mg £189
Boots £219 +
Chemist4U £179 +
Superdrugs

19 - If you want to switch suppliers, make sure you have pics of your Mounjaro box with your name and dose. This will come in useful when other suppliers ask for evidence.

Or FINAL20-BLOOM might give £30 off.

Another that can't be used with the product. I've just gone and tried a bunch I could find on voucher sites and haven't found anything that works. I will keep testing any that anyone finds though!

MelissaLouRocks · 28/05/2024 08:21

Choux · 28/05/2024 08:14

Has anyone tried BANKHOL25 as a 25% off MedExpress code? Mine is still locked but I would be reordering and trying that if I could.

I posted about that last week when my account was still locked, it wouldn't work on weight loss options.

It looks as though Med Express may be doing what I mooted last week, and removing the option of using any codes towards weight loss products. I think it will lose them a lot of customers though!

BlackFriYay · 28/05/2024 08:22

ObsidianTree · 28/05/2024 07:28

Morning all, my medexpess has unlocked so I decided to try consult-bloom to see if it still works and it doesn't work for me anymore. I did use it last month tho. I don't plan to order any as I have plenty, but want to see what codes work.

Does anyone have any MedExpress codes?

I have also emailed Medexpress to see if they will reduce the price /give discount codes. I explained they are no longer the cheapest etc, so let's see what happens.

If anyone else wants to message them stating similar, they might be forced to lower the price.

I suppose if they start losing customers to family chemist then they will have to put the price down.

Good idea. I've just sent them an email.

NCfor24 · 28/05/2024 08:24

So none of the MedExpress codes work. I need to reorder but might go for 7.5mg again to save the £20 vs the 10mg. I'll try emailing them first though.

KeepingUndercover · 28/05/2024 08:28

Is anyone cheaper than £169 for 7.5mg? I'm waiting until payday to reorder at the moment.

MoreThanJustANumber · 28/05/2024 08:49

I've been with Bolt since the beginning, not the cheapest but happy with the service. I emailed them last week to ask about the prices for 12.5 and 15, mentioning that the other strengths are cheaper elsewhere and they said they are happy to consider a price match. I'm not due to reorder for a while yet but if anyone else is using them might be worth an email.

Investinmyself · 28/05/2024 08:49

Well done @mammaneedsadrink and @ClonedSquare.

R4ch402 · 28/05/2024 08:56

Congrats @Rainbowl to you and your family. All the best x

ClonedSquare · 28/05/2024 08:58

Does anyone have any recommendations for protein yoghurt? Are there any that are a more normal consistency rather than being so thick I'd have to eat them over a whole day?

R4ch402 · 28/05/2024 09:03

A nice NSV I've noticed this weekend is my ankles are no longer swollen. Since Lockdown I've suffered from swollen ankles and I was moisturising myself after my shower on Saturday and noticed my ankles have gone down drastically. I've not lost the most amount of weight according to the scale but my body is transforming and I'm so happy about that. I'm also sleeping so much better as well.

Mrsmounjaro · 28/05/2024 09:16

Really wish idve done wha some on here are doin and not told anyone about this journey! I knew my mum wud be a cunt about it but part of me thought she might av a supportive word- oh no- 1st words were "what a waste of money, you'll just pile it all back on" and ewwww your gonna av a massive apron belly" 😕 (for ref, im a classic pear shape and carry little weight on my stomach, but still!) I honestly think at times shes been embarrassed that im her child, especially since her other kids are very good looking and naturally slim. Oh well, got to keep moving forward! Sorry for the rant 😬

FlappyFish · 28/05/2024 09:19

@Mrsmounjaro how incredibly nasty. I’m sorry she spoke to you like that. Better to get it out here where you know we all get it.

Think how sweet it will be to hit target. 🥳

I spent a day in bed 2 days after the first time I went from 2.5mg to 3.75mg. I then spent another day in bed the next week, again 2 days after I did another 3.75mg. The following week I did 4.25mg and regretted it!. The next week
(this week) I did 3.75mg, was fine after 2 days but no real appetite suppression after a couple of days so did another 1.25mg to make it 5 for the week, still feeling fine and will now continue but I think with a split dose, 2.5mg and then 2.5mg 3 days later.

Anyway, my point is first I'm lucky I work for myself as could just stay in bed! But also that it did resolve and the side effects did go by the 3rd/4th week. The appetite suppression was also wearing off however but I believe that once you get onto higher doses (7.5mg or 10mg) that this wearing off of side effects occurs but the wearing off of appetite suppression doesn't.

This is also from following American threads on Reddit where they are further ahead than us, many say they had side effects early on, don't now but the good effects keep working, May be worth it to keep going gradually until that point and then decide whether you can continue or not, but obviously your current circumstances may dictate whether you are able to do that.

Thanks @lurkylurk I do work from home the majority of the time but am on Teams calls for a lot of the day and the way I’ve been feeling after my injections I just couldn’t show my face or even focus on work. I also feel terrible for ruining the bank holiday weekend and all the plans we had went out the window as I was throwing up.

I think I’ll definitely try the split dosing for a bit and see if that works. I’m not ready to completely give up just yet!

Thank you! 4lb down since thursday, so thats perked me up. Thank god for this group x

I know I was probably the first to reach a “healthy” BMI, but my head has gone a bit weird with it all now.

I know this may be an odd post and I don’t want to make anyone feel odd. I just wanted to share where I am.

Current BMI is now 24.4. I am 11 stone 2. In my head I can see I’m slimmer. But, it has come off bloody quickly. My starting BMI was 30.9.

I don’t know what my end target is. I only got as far as “get into healthy BMI.”

I have my stock in the fridge. I’ve got another 3 months.

I guess I just feel a bit what now? I don’t feel slim. I just feel a bit flat.

I think I may need to talk this through with a therapist now. I don’t think I’ve ever been able to let go of “being thin will make me happy.” I’m not unhappy. I am a bit ok now what? 😂

Sorry for being so random and perhaps the small pity party. I just don’t recognise the body and face I see reflected. It would be very, very easy to keep going with this and chase some elusive weight.

It's weigh day/injection day for me today but I am scared to step on the scales as I deffo over indulged this weekend!

I am actually surprised by how much I was able to eat/drink- was worried I would end up feeling or even being sick, but managed to dodge it. Hoping today's injection will help me reset!

@FlappyFish- thanks for posting this. I think this is true of a lot of people who lose weight, I haver certainly felt this way before any time I've lost a lot of weight through dieting. It takes a while for your head to catch up with your body I think! I don't think talking to a therapist could hurt.

R4ch402 · 28/05/2024 09:36

@FlappyFish That's totally understandable and definitely a valid feeling. The "what now" when you've had a "goal" in mind and achieved it is definitely common. Your head just needs to catch up, you know you've lost weight, you can see it but most likely cannot believe it. And you need to learn to recognise that this is the new you.

I think speaking with a therapist would do you good. Just remember you've worked so hard to get here. You just need to adjust to your new normal. It may take time, but you'll get there x

sweetpickle2 · 28/05/2024 09:40

Just bit the bullet and stepped on the scales..... lost half a kilo! Was convinced I'd have gained weight this week so I will absolutely take that.

SW 107.8kg
CW 101.5kg
GW 90kg

Determined to get under the 100kg mark, I am so close this has given me a wake up call!

CormorantStrikesBack · 28/05/2024 09:43

I’ve lost 8lbs in 10 weeks. Am gutted that I’m not losing faster. I feel just as hungry and have no appetite suppressant, I’m on 5mg. I get a bit of on/off nausea so don’t want to go up to 7.5mg but still feel hungry!

Hi @ClonedSquare I have plain Greek yogurt as its already high in protein, I also add a scoop of protein powder for flavour. The banana and chocolate cookie flavour proteins from Bulk are my favourite

I know the 10mg is £20 more but if you can afford it buying the 10mg is much cheaper on a price per mg basis.

NCfor24 · 28/05/2024 10:00

Emailed MedExpress this morning re pricing and they've sent me 10% off code so I can be get 10mg for same price as 7.5mg pretty much.

I think this is a fairly normal response to being focused on reaching goal. The now what? Can I suggest you take a moment to think about ‘what does happy being thinner mean to me?’ If being unhappy/fat was about being self conscious, not doing things you’ve always wanted to, perhaps make a list of those things - did you want to try new job, take up dancing, join a language class etc but held back because you felt people would judge you? I know I’ve not done many of those things - incl going out with friends in the past so my friendships have drifted - because I was embarrassed by my size, uncomfortable in my clothes, worried about aching knees/back/feet on walks or nights out etc.

I’m hoping to be near my target by September, so am signing up to a tap class (just for fun) and an Italian intermediate class (been doing duolingo!) and determinedly trying to go out and make new friends. I think (hope) those things will make me feel happier. And more self-confident.

I guess what I am saying is that it’s easy to get caught thinking that losing weight itself will make you happier, when it’s the freedom from being fat that will allow you to go out and try new things that may make you happier?
