Please note: Mounjaro can only be taken if your BMI is above 30.

Pointers for newbies:

1 - For taking your first dose you need to twist the pen a lot to get to 1! The instructions say prime each time you take a dose, but actually Eli Lilly have confirmed you only need to prime for the first ever use of a pen. (The video posted says every use, but this isn't true!)

2 - When injecting, hold down the button until the number goes back to 0. Once at 0, keep holding down the button and count to 5 with the needle still in so no medication is lost!

3 - Your first dose may not have an immediate effect. For some people the effects build slowly. It could take 3 or 4 days to notice anything, it could take a few weeks. Some people don't feel the meds working until they get to 5mg. See titration chart which shows how the medication builds up in your system. Also below you can plot the effect of your doses.
glp1plotter.com/

4 - 2.5mg isn't a therapeutic dose, meaning you aren’t meant to lose on 2.5mg. You need to start on 2.5mg to get your body used to the drug and gradually introduce it into your system and get used to any side effects.

5 - Not everyone loses a lot in the first few weeks. Don't feel discouraged if you don't lose a lot initially. Again, you might need a higher dose to start losing. Also, inches can be lost without anything showing on the scales. Start your journey by taking measurements and check them as you go along.

6 - If you do lose a lot in the first few weeks, please don't assume you will continue losing at this rate. The first few weeks it is usually water weight that is lost, after than a good weight loss is about 2lbs a week. Some weeks you might not lose anything, but this is ok too…again, taking measurements might show inches lost instead.

7 - Constipation, coldness, nausea, diarrhea, headaches, aches, are side effects. There may be be other side effects also. Read info here :

www.medicines.org.uk/emc/product/15481/pil#about-medicine

8 - Once you take your first dose you can choose to keep your pen in the fridge or somewhere else. It's up to you.

9 - Don't reuse any needles as this could risk infection. If you damage a needle or one isn't working, you can buy a pack of about 100 spares. www.chemist-4-u.com/carepoint-pen-needles-31g-4mm-pack-of-100?gclid=Cj0KCQjwiYOxBhC5ARIsAIvdH51rLZBVFQxuvS7mDJooegtK8BMiyT0PwREMRHhH_1atfQIo8TEbsmkaAkA0EALw_wcB

Also there is a 5th dose in each pen. To extract it you can either try a hard twist or use an insulin needle.
medbasic.co.uk/bd-micro-fine-30g-1ml-syringes-needles

10 - Protein is important as eating less protein can cause muscle wastage and hair loss. Try to have at least 100g a day.

11 - Some natural sources of protein:
www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/best-sources-protein
www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/321522#high-protein-foods

12 - You can use supplements, some that people use are magnesium(for sleep and constipation), protein(to reduce muscle wastage), collagen (skin elasticity), aloe vera(for constipation), electrolytes.

13 - Drink lota of water. Water helps with the weight loss. Drink at least 2ltrs a day. Preferably 3ltrs.

14 - Don't be afraid to feel hungry. It is entirely normal and healthy to feel hungry. Just eat something. Treat it as an opportunity to start good habits around hunger. Eat a nice balanced snack or a meal if it's a meal time. It's ok.

15 - Does it makes any difference where you inject? yes it does! Drugs get absorbed at different rates depending on injection site

In order of fastest absorption, it goes:
• Tummy
• Arms
• Thighs
furthet reading about injection sites and the effects: www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/316618

16 - Abdominal side-effects are much easier to control with smaller meals. For example, having 4 small meals in the day vs 2 big meals can have an improvement in nausea and burps.

17 - You can track your calories / protein on apps such as My fitnessPal, Carb Manager or Nutracheck. Nutracheck is quite useful and easy to find foods /build recipes.

18 - Some of the places you can order from are:

MedExpress 2.5mg and 5mg. £149.99. 7.5mg £169. Use code STARTNOW. Ask for other codes if that doesn't work.
The Family Chemist 2.5mg and 5mg -£149. 7.5mg £169.
Simple online pharmacy - £159 2.5mg £179 5mg
Bolt pharmacy 2.5mg £125, 5mg £179. 7.5mg £189
Asda 2.5mg and 5mg £184. 7.5mg £189
Boots £219 +
Chemist4U £179 +
Superdrugs

19 - If you want to switch suppliers, make sure you have pics of your Mounjaro box with your name and dose. This will come in useful when other suppliers ask for evidence.

Evening All
Am back in a bit of a stall, bouncing up and down the same 0.75-1kg. Think I may finally be ready to move up to 7.5mg. I have been worried about going up from 5mg due to my previous experience on saxenda and wegovy not working at all, part of me worries about increasing MJ dosage and having no where to go if it stops working. Silly I know, I just can't bear the thought of failing at this too. The fact that I am losing on 5mg, albeit very slowly, is making me wonder if there is any need to go up to the next dose. As you can see, I really can't make my mind up!
The appetite and food chatter suppression is really helping me reframe what needs to be my normal in terms of portion size and intake, I just hope I will have changed enough by the end of this journey. I know what led to my overeating as a teen leading to overweight, and I know why it continued into my twenties. Working 3 jobs, then shift work led to obesity, then exhaustion from babies all made it worse, and after 20 years of excess food I found it impossible to overcome the appetite/food noise that scuppered every attempt I have made to lose the fat through calorie counting, meal replacement, upping exercise - the usual 'traditional ' methods. An ADHD diagnosis from an NHS psychiatrist earlier this year made me understand that so much of what I used to think of as 'emotional eating' was actually dopamine seeking - and I no longer feel as much of a 'fat loss failure '.
Onwards and downwards, this is an investment in me and I am worth it.

Thanks, I’ll get some then, just in case I’m ever brave enough to inject over 3mg again!

I spent a day in bed 2 days after the first time I went from 2.5mg to 3.75mg. I then spent another day in bed the next week, again 2 days after I did another 3.75mg. The following week I did 4.25mg and regretted it!. The next week
(this week) I did 3.75mg, was fine after 2 days but no real appetite suppression after a couple of days so did another 1.25mg to make it 5 for the week, still feeling fine and will now continue but I think with a split dose, 2.5mg and then 2.5mg 3 days later.

Anyway, my point is first I'm lucky I work for myself as could just stay in bed! But also that it did resolve and the side effects did go by the 3rd/4th week. The appetite suppression was also wearing off however but I believe that once you get onto higher doses (7.5mg or 10mg) that this wearing off of side effects occurs but the wearing off of appetite suppression doesn't.

This is also from following American threads on Reddit where they are further ahead than us, many say they had side effects early on, don't now but the good effects keep working, May be worth it to keep going gradually until that point and then decide whether you can continue or not, but obviously your current circumstances may dictate whether you are able to do that.

3wDavid · 28/05/2024 05:26

Can someone reassure me please- for those of you who experienced side effects (nausea, headaches) - does this happen only after the very first injection, or after each?
I did my jab on Sat and was fine but then yesterday have been really poorly. Just now starting to feel a bit better. I can’t go through this every 7 days. Please tell me this was one and done?? 🙏🏼

From my experience (although mine has been a bit worse than most, to qualify that!) any side effects tend to get less with each dose and then worsen temporarily with each increase in dose.

The aim is to get to a dose at which you are no longer having side effects but are having sustainable long term weight loss. From the trials this can be at 5mg (or even staying at 2.5mg) for some people, but is likely to be at 10mg for the majority.

Having followed threads on here as well as American threads where they are further ahead many stay at the 7.5mg-10mg level for a long time and have most of their weight loss there and some stay at 2.5mg-5mg for quite a while too.

While hitting a level at which side effects are minimal and weight loss is maximal there may be side effects on the way there but they almost always diminish.

FutureFeelsBleak · 28/05/2024 06:32

has anyone had an issue with their pen jamming? I went to do a dose yesterday and couldn't depress the button, ended up having to take it out of my leg to force it, and so of course lost some of the dose onto the kitchen floor. Grr.

mammaneedsadrink · 28/05/2024 06:39

Hi all 👋

Been lurking for a while, but now one week into my own journey and am over the moon with the results. This drug is magic. I took my first 2.5mg dose last Tuesday and the effects were instant. I didn't even know what food noise was until it was gone and it's so freaking liberating to not be constantly thinking about food! I've been away for a long weekend to centerparcs and had no problem not overindulging. I've also noticed a vast improvement in my mood and focus levels. I strongly suspect I have ADHD, but since taking MJ I seem to be able to concentrate so much better.

Anyway, 6.4lb down in week 1 🥳.

SW - 194lbs / CW - 187.6

ClonedSquare · 28/05/2024 06:46

Joining this thread as well, I'm obsessed with reading about people's experiences on this! I just did my 4th jab of 2.5mg and I've lost 12lbs so far! That's in 2.5 weeks as I switched up my weighing/injection day one week.

I've not had any bad side effects at all, except some very mild constipation. The food noise has switched off entirely and I don't feel much hunger anymore except towards the end of the week. I still find I can eat what I want but just lose the desire to binge that I had before. I can force myself to eat large meals if I want to (eg if I'm enjoying a restaurant meal!) but I can equally say no much sooner too. It's so life changing and bizarre.

Going up to 5mg next Monday and quite nervous. If I get terrible side effects, I'll go back down to the 2.5mg at least temporarily.

Cerialkiller · 28/05/2024 06:53

Just taken my second 3.75 dose, 6th jab overall. It's a day early (again) as we are away from Thursday and in the car then have events over the weekend. I had mild toilet issues after my last dose so trying to minimise the effects while driving.

Friday weighing will probably be delayed to Saturday too as away from my scales.

Had a heavy day yesterday. Local place does a really cheesy parmigiana so ate that plus leftovers from dds arancini. I keto so the rice isn't ideal and they also had gelato so tried one walnut sized scoop of pannacotta flavor, possibly a mistake but I do want to be able to enjoy going off plan very occasionally. I have found that being on mj has made keto slightly more forgiving so hoping that continues for this latest transgression.

Why not split the dose? I see from here that lots of people struggle going up to 5mg, its double after all so do a dose of 3.75 in-between. I've just done my second at this dose and will go up to 5 next week. I've had some very mild symptoms so glad I did it. I still had a boost in weight loss. 3lb in my 5th week.

FutureFeelsBleak · 28/05/2024 06:59

I'm really interested in what looks like a common theme here of ADHD and the dopamine hit. I've long suspected I have ADHD, but hadn't realised the connection with food/drink/substances until reading this thread.

Without wishing to derail the thread DS has autism, and I suspect also ADHD, and has substance abuse issues - which I think I now understand much better put through the lens of dopamine seeking.

CONSULT-BUNNY is no longer working at med express.

I have contacted them to ask if they will match the family chemist for 10mg.

Will let you know the outcome!

ObsidianTree · 28/05/2024 07:28

Morning all, my medexpess has unlocked so I decided to try consult-bloom to see if it still works and it doesn't work for me anymore. I did use it last month tho. I don't plan to order any as I have plenty, but want to see what codes work.

Does anyone have any MedExpress codes?

I have also emailed Medexpress to see if they will reduce the price /give discount codes. I explained they are no longer the cheapest etc, so let's see what happens.

If anyone else wants to message them stating similar, they might be forced to lower the price.

I suppose if they start losing customers to family chemist then they will have to put the price down.

I got some mild headaches when I first started MJ. I realised that low blood sugar makes me feel worse, so forcing myself to eat small, protein-y snacks or meals regularly is v important to avoid this.
When I went up to 5mg, for the first 3 days after each injection, I felt ill - nausea mostly. But also some diarrhoea. But each week got less and less. By week 4, I had no side effects, other than a bit of constipation, which is very easily solved with some senna tablets. I had sulphur burps once, but took peppermint oil capsules and it went away.

I'm now 5 weeks into 5mg and don't feel side effects at all, other than sometimes mild constipation. I know from hearing the experience of others that side effects fade as your body gets used to it. Also, the jump from 2.5 to 5mg is quite a big one - so that plays a part too.

This is a serious medication and it doesn't play around! The reason you start on a low dose is to gently let your body get used to it. Everyone reacts differently, so you might not get side effects again, who knows!

I just went to Family Chemist and they're the same price as Med Express but the p&p is more. And they won't let me use their newsletter discount code on weight loss stuff.

I think they’re cheaper for 10mg though.

The 10mg pen is £20 cheaper at the Family Chemist as it's £189 at MedExpress.

Choux · 28/05/2024 08:14

Has anyone tried BANKHOL25 as a 25% off MedExpress code? Mine is still locked but I would be reordering and trying that if I could.

Bananabuttons · 28/05/2024 08:14

CONSULT-BLOOM worked for me last night but it was my first order.

What are you all eating? Just about to do a Tesco order as we’re back from holiday and the cupboards are bare.

i’m thinking protein yog and berries for breakfast, some sort of eggs on protein bagel, omelette, avocado on toast for lunch and salad with chicken or grilled fish with veg for dinner.

I don’t have a very sweet tooth but I love savoury carbs- marmite on toast, cheese toastie, pasta etc. I also eat dark choc every day and drink too much wine!

Does the above sound reasonable? It’s how o try to eat when I diet but it rarely lasts more than 3-4 days!

Aha. I was looking at the 7.5mg which is my next one. I did try the bank holiday code and no joy.

Or FINAL20-BLOOM might give £30 off.
