Please note: Mounjaro can only be taken if your BMI is above 30.

Pointers for newbies:

1 - For taking your first dose you need to twist the pen a lot to get to 1! The instructions say prime each time you take a dose, but actually Eli Lilly have confirmed you only need to prime for the first ever use of a pen. (The video posted says every use, but this isn't true!)

2 - When injecting, hold down the button until the number goes back to 0. Once at 0, keep holding down the button and count to 5 with the needle still in so no medication is lost!

3 - Your first dose may not have an immediate effect. For some people the effects build slowly. It could take 3 or 4 days to notice anything, it could take a few weeks. Some people don't feel the meds working until they get to 5mg. See titration chart which shows how the medication builds up in your system. Also below you can plot the effect of your doses.
glp1plotter.com/

4 - 2.5mg isn't a therapeutic dose, meaning you aren’t meant to lose on 2.5mg. You need to start on 2.5mg to get your body used to the drug and gradually introduce it into your system and get used to any side effects.

5 - Not everyone loses a lot in the first few weeks. Don't feel discouraged if you don't lose a lot initially. Again, you might need a higher dose to start losing. Also, inches can be lost without anything showing on the scales. Start your journey by taking measurements and check them as you go along.

6 - If you do lose a lot in the first few weeks, please don't assume you will continue losing at this rate. The first few weeks it is usually water weight that is lost, after than a good weight loss is about 2lbs a week. Some weeks you might not lose anything, but this is ok too…again, taking measurements might show inches lost instead.

7 - Constipation, coldness, nausea, diarrhea, headaches, aches, are side effects. There may be be other side effects also. Read info here :

www.medicines.org.uk/emc/product/15481/pil#about-medicine

8 - Once you take your first dose you can choose to keep your pen in the fridge or somewhere else. It's up to you.

9 - Don't reuse any needles as this could risk infection. If you damage a needle or one isn't working, you can buy a pack of about 100 spares. www.chemist-4-u.com/carepoint-pen-needles-31g-4mm-pack-of-100?gclid=Cj0KCQjwiYOxBhC5ARIsAIvdH51rLZBVFQxuvS7mDJooegtK8BMiyT0PwREMRHhH_1atfQIo8TEbsmkaAkA0EALw_wcB

Also there is a 5th dose in each pen. To extract it you can either try a hard twist or use an insulin needle.
medbasic.co.uk/bd-micro-fine-30g-1ml-syringes-needles

10 - Protein is important as eating less protein can cause muscle wastage and hair loss. Try to have at least 100g a day.

11 - Some natural sources of protein:
www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/best-sources-protein
www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/321522#high-protein-foods

12 - You can use supplements, some that people use are magnesium(for sleep and constipation), protein(to reduce muscle wastage), collagen (skin elasticity), aloe vera(for constipation), electrolytes.

13 - Drink lota of water. Water helps with the weight loss. Drink at least 2ltrs a day. Preferably 3ltrs.

14 - Don't be afraid to feel hungry. It is entirely normal and healthy to feel hungry. Just eat something. Treat it as an opportunity to start good habits around hunger. Eat a nice balanced snack or a meal if it's a meal time. It's ok.

15 - Does it makes any difference where you inject? yes it does! Drugs get absorbed at different rates depending on injection site

In order of fastest absorption, it goes:
• Tummy
• Arms
• Thighs
furthet reading about injection sites and the effects: www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/316618

16 - Abdominal side-effects are much easier to control with smaller meals. For example, having 4 small meals in the day vs 2 big meals can have an improvement in nausea and burps.

17 - You can track your calories / protein on apps such as My fitnessPal, Carb Manager or Nutracheck. Nutracheck is quite useful and easy to find foods /build recipes.

18 - Some of the places you can order from are:

MedExpress 2.5mg and 5mg. £149.99. 7.5mg £169. Use code STARTNOW. Ask for other codes if that doesn't work.
The Family Chemist 2.5mg and 5mg -£149. 7.5mg £169.
Simple online pharmacy - £159 2.5mg £179 5mg
Bolt pharmacy 2.5mg £125, 5mg £179. 7.5mg £189
Asda 2.5mg and 5mg £184. 7.5mg £189
Boots £219 +
Chemist4U £179 +
Superdrugs

19 - If you want to switch suppliers, make sure you have pics of your Mounjaro box with your name and dose. This will come in useful when other suppliers ask for evidence.

Can you link to a source for that stat? I've been looking and only found information saying that the trial group that was switched to placebo regained 14% if their weight (it isn't clear if that's 14% of their new weight or old weight) its still better then regaining ALL the weight and still better then any other weightless method which seems to only have 5-10% success rate.

I suspect that this drug or one of the variants that is expected to come out in the next year or two will be used as a lifelong drug similar to statins. I wouldn't mind taking a pill or weekly/monthly jab to maintain this for life personally. The health benefits just mentioned on here are completely extraordinary!

Addiction suppression including food, smoking, shopping, drugs?
Blood pressure and blood sugar lowering
Less pain medication needed over time
reduced inflammation
im sure there are more

And alcohol! I haven't had a drink for 13 days and, before that, was glugging a bottle of wine a day! No cravings or at least, none that I can't handle.

OlympeMax · 24/05/2024 17:18

Hi All,

Took my 3rd 5mg dose on Weds which I was a bit wary of as I had a bad weekend previous with upset stomach and feeling very sick (although didn't actually). Tues afternoon I developed a strange sore stomach that by the evening I was thinking - "if I didn't know any better I would swear this is a period pain" - I haven't had a period in almost 2 years having been on the HRT patches for that time (previously on the 2 different tablet version of HRT which did still give a monthly period). Went to the bathroom Weds morning and yep I have a period!!! I know others have commented on MJ having an affect on their cycle but has anyone on HRT and in menopause had a period after this length of time? I did find a post on a reddit forum and it does appear to be a thing.

By sheer coincidence I have an appointment with nurse next week for my annual HRT review so I will mention it then (although will have to mention being on MJ as well).

On more positive news I lost another 1KG when I weighed this week so now 6KG down and so close to the 1 stone mark!

KeepingUndercover · 24/05/2024 18:19

@lurkylurk can you pick up some of those childhood hobbies? Crochet and knitting s a great one because it keeps your hands busy in the evening when you might otherwise start thinking of food. Cross stitch and embroidery too. I'm hopeless at all those!

I've taken up swimming and I'm getting back to running. A friend is trying to convince me cold water swimming should be my new thing but I am unconvinced by that idea! I do swim in a lido but it's heated.

lurkylurk · 24/05/2024 18:29

@KeepingUndercover

I think I did so much crocheting and knitting as a kid I exhausted that one!

I also have a friend trying to convince me on cold water swimming but I only like warm water, preferably the sea although a lido might be nice but none near me.

I used to swim in swimming pools but it was having fun with friends, not keen on just swimming lengths so unless I move to Spain (one day maybe, working on the husband on that idea for future)then I could snorkel and swim and paddle board! Can’t run due to prolapsed womb, bladder and anything else down there!

I do like cooking and making stuff and was thinking maybe I could also turn that into a part-time side hustle by making something for farmers markets, hmmm…..

Sounds like your doing amazing, how long did you stay on 2.5mg, I’m just at the start and curious about the next stage.

lurkylurk · 24/05/2024 18:38

@OlympeMax

I'm sure there was someone on here a while ago that had spotting on MJ after having gone through menopause some time ago.

It makes sense because Mounjaro affects the hypothalamus which controls lots of things like body temperature (why people feel cold on it), hunger (obvious one), diurnal rhythms (maybe why some feel tired and some have insomnia) and the menstrual cycle too!

Sye · 24/05/2024 18:40

Investinmyself · 23/05/2024 22:00

@sye don’t feel guilty. It doesn’t just melt off. I’m on limited cals/making healthy food choices/10,000 steps/water.
Difference v cc without medication is I can feel well not absolutely starving on low cals. DH is currently eating Pringles in front of me and DD chocolate and I’m genuinely not tempted.

Wow, that’s sounds great, I must say after seeing the messages of support and members stories of weight loss, has truly given me the drive.
I have a bad experience with the first attempt to purchase, basically a thieving company!
Now looking to down load the Nutracheck, as mentioned in other messages.
Thanks

Everdecreasingcircumferences · 24/05/2024 18:47

Evening all,
Thanks for the support yesterday, am feeling a bit more myself today. It's odd, I don't feel as excited about having hit another one of my goals (sub 90kg) this week as I should be. Perhaps it's because now that I know this stuff works for me (unlike the other jabs I have tried) I feel I'm truly in it for the long haul and have got my eye on the prize at the end.
It does make me feel good that I'm only 6kg away from not being obese anymore - unbelievable that I know I can do this thanks to MJ. It was soul destroying to fail at saxenda and wegovy when so many others lost loads, not just the waste of money but also the sense of shame that yet again I was just useless.
6kg, doable in 3 months - I could be done with obesity by the end of the summer!

DownWithThisKindOfThing · 24/05/2024 16:04

Appetite suppression back on 5 mg, yay!

That good to hear. I haven’t felt anything in week 3 so have struggled a bit. I had my last 2.5 injection yesterday and added some of the extra dose. Hooding week one on 5 mg which is next week the suppression will return.

Karmakamelion · 24/05/2024 19:14

Hi all . Have just ordered mounjaro as the wergovy seems not be be helping much in terms of weight loss. I have been on wergovy for 17 months and have lost 4 stones but this has been static for 2 months in spite of going up to 2.4 mgs
Has anyone else done this and How did it go?
TIA

lurkylurk · 24/05/2024 19:41

@Sye

Which was the first company you ordered from?

ChristmasLightsLover · 24/05/2024 19:45

Des anyone know of any up to date codes please? Was scanning the thread and then it glitched and brought me back to the top! Thank you in advance.

I hope we are all up for a good weekend ahead. I am going to experiment with salmon and try to get more protein in.

Weigh in tomorrow morning for me. I need to look back at when I started. I think it was the fist week of March...

I was on Wegovy and actually found I was often having cravings for junk in the morning. Switched to Mounjaro and found it much better.

Flapearedknave · 24/05/2024 19:52

@Bananabuttons I have also noticed my other vice, spending has curtailed. No idea if it is this, but it's a hell of a coincidence!

I used to spend hours scrolling sites. Now I'm bored after a couple of mins

I did 3 months on Wegovy (was up to 1mg) and lost nothing! Had no appetite suppression but terrible heartburn, I could only tolerate bland beige foods and was hungry so eating too much of them.

That being said I’ve not had much appetite suppression with mounjaro either but I’m only in week 3 of 2.5mg, seems like I’ll need to be on the higher doses for it to be effective but I’ve had zero side affects so happy to keep going, I have lost 3lbs which is miniscule compared to most but it’s something.

Hellijoy · 24/05/2024 19:59

Evening all - long term lurker here. I went from 70kg to 90kg during Covid. Have lost 6kg but really struggled to lose the rest of the weight. I’ve just ordered Mounjaro today and it arrives tomorrow… eek!

I was hoping to get some menu inspiration from those who have been on MJ for a while. What works for you vs what do you avoid (of course other than the obvious avoid greasy food, eat lots of veggies and protein etc.). I’m looking ahead to my weekly food shop and wanting to get organised so I don’t get too hungry!

TIA x

@WannabeHealthier hi! Thank you! Great points, appreciate the advice!!! You’re so right!

3wDavid · 24/05/2024 20:08

Actually, question - the overthinker in me is overthinking already. My MJ arrives tomorrow. I am going on holiday on June 13 for 6 days. Do I start it tomorrow, if so what do I do on holiday abroad?! Or do I wait till Thu next week, so I can do a dose the morning of my holiday before I leave?? I don’t want to wait that long but completely unsure how otherwise to stack it!! Advice?

lurkylurk · 24/05/2024 20:23

@BusyMummy001

In the 4 year study they were still taking semaglutide for the 4 years though!

BlackFriYay · 24/05/2024 20:24

I wish the 'stop buying things' side effect would come my way, I've spent a fortune over the past month buying clothes in smaller sizes 😄 and I love it!

Scotty80 · 24/05/2024 12:56

Hi all, another newbie here.
Waiting for my first MJ order to arrive, ordered through Juniper. Am another who won’t be sharing this journey with anyone other than on here, although really shouldn’t concern ourselves with what others may say!
Am nervous to start but look forward to a healthier me (hopefully!).

Hi Scotty80, everyone is great, and made me feel very welcome, I started last week, the build up to the first injection consumed my life, but it’s very straight forward and doesn’t hurt, or it didn’t hurt me. I’ve been fine, perhaps a little cold at times, but that could also be to do with me living in the north end of the UK 🤣
Keep going through the threads, there’s loads of great advice and super results from members.
Good luck, let us know how you get on.

BusyMummy001 · 24/05/2024 21:09

lurkylurk · 24/05/2024 20:23

@BusyMummy001

In the 4 year study they were still taking semaglutide for the 4 years though!

Yes, I did take that on board (but will admit I almost missed it), however I am hoping this study may lead to people being able to obtain lower/maintenance doses, either via their private clinics or on the NHS eventually? One of the clinicians interviewed mentioned that the NHS may be more receptive to this after the findings - and I would expect this to be more likely so given all the other recent news (renal and cardiology studies) seems to be very positive - I’m not sure if they anticipate similar findings for MJ, though?

I am keeping fingers crossed that the news continues to be positive so that the NHS will one day prescribe these drugs in the same way they prescribe statins. I have factored into my medium term plans the possibility of remaining on them at, say, the 5mg dose of mounjaro. At the moment, the reduction in my wine and food bill would offset the cost of the lower dose… would be great if the NHS could prescribe it though!

Soukmyfalafel · 24/05/2024 21:14

Checking in, but notice we are already 14 pages in. I've missed so much.

I'm stalling this week. Not so fussed, as I am noticeable thinner, but would like to lose something. Only seem to be a kiloish down. I'm hoping to get to the end of this 7.5mg pen and be able to keep my next pen just in case of gaining or titrating down. I have 3 doses left and 7lbs to go. I'm not sure I will do it.

I haven't had a great day of eating due to being out with kids today, bit didn't have much to eat until dinner.

I am getting diet fatigue. I was shopping today and really was missing just having a nice sized meal or a nice pudding. I haven't really had a big meal or a pudding in ages. I'm looking forward to maintenance calories again and being able to have a treat now and then. I know i need to watch my portion sizes and calorie count still, but it would be nice to have an eve a week where i have a good meal! 1,200 cals really isn't much. I do realise now that carbs really are empty calories a lot of the time. I need to keep them minimal.
