Please note: Mounjaro can only be taken if your BMI is above 30.

Pointers for newbies:

1 - For taking your first dose you need to twist the pen a lot to get to 1! The instructions say prime each time you take a dose, but actually Eli Lilly have confirmed you only need to prime for the first ever use of a pen. (The video posted says every use, but this isn't true!)

2 - When injecting, hold down the button until the number goes back to 0. Once at 0, keep holding down the button and count to 5 with the needle still in so no medication is lost!

3 - Your first dose may not have an immediate effect. For some people the effects build slowly. It could take 3 or 4 days to notice anything, it could take a few weeks. Some people don't feel the meds working until they get to 5mg. See titration chart which shows how the medication builds up in your system. Also below you can plot the effect of your doses.
glp1plotter.com/

4 - 2.5mg isn't a therapeutic dose, meaning you aren’t meant to lose on 2.5mg. You need to start on 2.5mg to get your body used to the drug and gradually introduce it into your system and get used to any side effects.

5 - Not everyone loses a lot in the first few weeks. Don't feel discouraged if you don't lose a lot initially. Again, you might need a higher dose to start losing. Also, inches can be lost without anything showing on the scales. Start your journey by taking measurements and check them as you go along.

6 - If you do lose a lot in the first few weeks, please don't assume you will continue losing at this rate. The first few weeks it is usually water weight that is lost, after than a good weight loss is about 2lbs a week. Some weeks you might not lose anything, but this is ok too…again, taking measurements might show inches lost instead.

7 - Constipation, coldness, nausea, diarrhea, headaches, aches, are side effects. There may be be other side effects also. Read info here :

www.medicines.org.uk/emc/product/15481/pil#about-medicine

8 - Once you take your first dose you can choose to keep your pen in the fridge or somewhere else. It's up to you.

9 - Don't reuse any needles as this could risk infection. If you damage a needle or one isn't working, you can buy a pack of about 100 spares. www.chemist-4-u.com/carepoint-pen-needles-31g-4mm-pack-of-100?gclid=Cj0KCQjwiYOxBhC5ARIsAIvdH51rLZBVFQxuvS7mDJooegtK8BMiyT0PwREMRHhH_1atfQIo8TEbsmkaAkA0EALw_wcB

Also there is a 5th dose in each pen. To extract it you can either try a hard twist or use an insulin needle.
medbasic.co.uk/bd-micro-fine-30g-1ml-syringes-needles

10 - Protein is important as eating less protein can cause muscle wastage and hair loss. Try to have at least 100g a day.

11 - Some natural sources of protein:
www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/best-sources-protein
www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/321522#high-protein-foods

12 - You can use supplements, some that people use are magnesium(for sleep and constipation), protein(to reduce muscle wastage), collagen (skin elasticity), aloe vera(for constipation), electrolytes.

13 - Drink lota of water. Water helps with the weight loss. Drink at least 2ltrs a day. Preferably 3ltrs.

14 - Don't be afraid to feel hungry. It is entirely normal and healthy to feel hungry. Just eat something. Treat it as an opportunity to start good habits around hunger. Eat a nice balanced snack or a meal if it's a meal time. It's ok.

15 - Does it makes any difference where you inject? yes it does! Drugs get absorbed at different rates depending on injection site

In order of fastest absorption, it goes:
• Tummy
• Arms
• Thighs
furthet reading about injection sites and the effects: www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/316618

16 - Abdominal side-effects are much easier to control with smaller meals. For example, having 4 small meals in the day vs 2 big meals can have an improvement in nausea and burps.

17 - You can track your calories / protein on apps such as My fitnessPal, Carb Manager or Nutracheck. Nutracheck is quite useful and easy to find foods /build recipes.

18 - Some of the places you can order from are:

MedExpress 2.5mg and 5mg. £149.99. 7.5mg £169. Use code STARTNOW. Ask for other codes if that doesn't work.
The Family Chemist 2.5mg and 5mg -£149. 7.5mg £169.
Simple online pharmacy - £159 2.5mg £179 5mg
Bolt pharmacy 2.5mg £125, 5mg £179. 7.5mg £189
Asda 2.5mg and 5mg £184. 7.5mg £189
Boots £219 +
Chemist4U £179 +
Superdrugs

19 - If you want to switch suppliers, make sure you have pics of your Mounjaro box with your name and dose. This will come in useful when other suppliers ask for evidence.

Has anyone else suddenly developed a reaction on the injection site?

I'm on injection 14 this week and the last couple of weeks I've had a large red patch develop around the injection site. Last week I assumed it was due to taking the extra dose with a syringe, but the redness is still there and is itchy. I used one of the crap medexpress needles this week and have developed the same red patch 24hrs after injecting on the opposite side of my stomach.

Yes - I have after the first 4 2.5mg jabs.
Then I used a syringe and longer needle for a bonus 2.5mg and that reacted. I thought that it was just because of the change in needle, but then really reacted to the 5mg dose.
I am fine on the day of the injection, but the day after it begins to itch, and then I get a big red itchy patch. Antihistamine cream helps, but it's still there.

It goes down after a few days, just in time for the next jab 🙄

Youdontevengohere · 23/05/2024 21:22

Has anyone got any recommendations for calorie tracking apps? I’ve always used MyFitnessPal but now they just seem to want you to have the paid version so the free version is practically unusable

I'm using fatsecret. It's not quite as good as Nutracheck, but it is a freebie and fairly easy to use. I've only had to add a couple of items that I couldn't find in their library, it's UK based so pretty much everything is already included.

I don't want to overstep here, but when I had a bad reaction to the flu jab (swollen lips and eyes) after being fine for years before, the pharmacist suggested 1 Piriton tablet and, sure enough, it all subsided within an hour. I'm intending to do the same with MJ if it happens - so far, only had a red patch for around 6 hrs so haven't needed to yet but stocked up just in case.

Everdecreasingcircumferences · 24/05/2024 10:11

@Bananabuttons I have ADHD, diagnosed the month before I started on MJ. I think dopamine seeking from sugar and exhaustion from poor sleep due to a hyperactive brain, leading to seeking energy from sugar, has been the fundamental reason I ended up overweight as a young adult and then obese by my mid twenties having been a healthy weight throughout childhood.
I had a not great day yesterday and felt really flat, despite seeing a number on the scales I hadn't seen in almost 20 years. Pre MJ me would have gone straight for the chocolate/ ice cream to get my dopamine fix, but MJ helped me recognise the urge and then ignore it.
I am focusing on non-food things like time with friends (spa breaks I can't afford) and looking at all the lovely things I will be able to wear once I lose another 3 stones. I am skint, definitely spending more to get my dopamine fixes elsewhere (biscuits are a lot cheaper than massages, unfortunately I dont get a dopamine hit from exercise like my best mate with ADHD does, but then that's how I ended up being 5 stones overweight).
I have lost 9kg and took my 14th jab this morning, minimal side effects other than occasional minor gastric issues and feeling cold, slow loss compared to some but 3kg per month is pretty decent and more than I have ever achieved counting calories, exercising lots or using meal replacements.

FastGoose · 24/05/2024 10:17

Sorta newbie here again! I saw on here last night someone had mentioned the protein powders they'd been trying that tasted really good. I've scoured through (albeit quickly) and my blind ass really can't find what I was looking for.
If anyone could hit me with their recommendations or even if the OP of said protein powders comment sees this... Pretty please!

PissedOffNeighbour22 · 24/05/2024 10:39

@Flapearedknave I never thought I'd be a protein wanker, but I love my protein powder drinks. I have it with my evening meal as I tend not to drink with food and having that instead makes me drink enough. I actually miss it when I'm working away and could probably happily drink several a day.
You wouldn't believe how many pots of the stuff I have in my kitchen cupboards 🫣.

@FastGoose I use the myprotein powders.
I have a referral code if you don't yet have an account and it should give you £10 off.

I really like the strawberry lemonade clear whey protein powder that comes in a tub. The vimto one is nice but very very strong. The cranberry raspberry one is lovely too.

lurkylurk · 24/05/2024 10:40

@Everdecreasingcircumferences

Re. dopamine and exercise, lifting weights is often the best for this but it doesn't happen right away, you need to be doing it regularly.

My younger sister lifts a lot of weights, does iron man competitions and crossfit and says she's addicted to it now, and "needs" to do it on a regular basis. There's worse things to be addicted to!

PissedOffNeighbour22 · 24/05/2024 10:42

@pinktransit thanks, I think I'll get some antihistamine cream and try that. Just seems odd that the patch is still there 8 days later and now I have a second one to deal with.

Anyone else who wants to use Myprotein as a new customer my code is www.myprotein.com/referrals.list?applyCode=LOUISE-R9AB

We get £10 credit each.

Currently drinking the orange and mango one which is lovely. Also like the raspberry cranberry, tropical dragonfruit, peach tea, bitter lemon, strawberry kiwi. Vimto is ok but I won't order it again I'd give it a 5/10.

The ones I didn't like were mojito, watermelon, pineapple and the plain orange. Obviously everyone has different tastes though.

I would say though to dilute them more than the package states as they are pretty strongly flavoured. I do mine with 600-700mls and ice.

lurkylurk · 24/05/2024 10:51

I'm having a crap week as far as dieting goes. Did 4.25 mg last week, felt like shit on third day (as previous 2 weeks on 3.75mg) but was really hungry by day 5, days 6 and 7 had 3 meals each day (only been having 2 previously) and larger portions.

Went a day longer before injecting as hadn't slept and felt ill and didn't want to make it worse. Yesterday managed to hold off and only have 2 meals but more by willpower than anything else. Injected yesterday evening, was freezing and had heartburn within about an hour but just had a bacon sandwich for breakfast, just one slice of toast halved (supposed to not be eating until lunch) and could happily eat another one.

I seem to have gained back a pound of my very slow loss (back from 10 pounds lost in 8 weeks to 9 pounds lost), not surprising as been eating plenty and it's about to be that time of the month.

Think I'm just going to have to write off this week! Hopefully appetite suppression will kick in later today, only did 3.75mg this week but if feel ok tomorrow (third day is usually the worst for me side effects wise) I might add a bit more as it's wearing off too quickly. Really need to move up in dose but struggling with the side effects, has anyone tried doing a split dose? i.e., some on one day and then the rest a few days later to spread it more evenly over a week?

FastGoose · 24/05/2024 10:52

For some reason trying to sign up with myprotein is proving harder than it should be, keeps spitting up an error so I'll try again in a bit I guess!

PissedOffNeighbour22 · 24/05/2024 10:55

@imnottoofussed I made the mistake of ordering a large tub of the pineapple one and it's nothing like I expected it to taste. Luckily I have a bag of coconut protein powder so I mix it with that and it's really nice.

@FastGoose the shakers are on offer at the moment too and it's worth getting some if you don't have any. I bought some from ikea and they're useless so ended up buying them from myprotein.

Youdontevengohere · 24/05/2024 11:09

Great service from MedExpress so far. Went through the initial consultation on Weds and first pen arrived yesterday. Package was missing 1 needle so I emailed yesterday, and 4 extra needles have arrived today.

Chicken breast with a salad is a basic for me when feeling utterly uninterested in food. Prepacked salad if that helps. It’s not challenging and takes no time to prepare.

Hi all, another newbie here.
Waiting for my first MJ order to arrive, ordered through Juniper. Am another who won’t be sharing this journey with anyone other than on here, although really shouldn’t concern ourselves with what others may say!
Am nervous to start but look forward to a healthier me (hopefully!).

Thanks for this, I managed to get a tub of 35 servings and a tub of 20 for £27. Not sure how, it seemed to stack a load of codes so may get get honoured, but will be chuffed if it does!

lurkylurk · 24/05/2024 13:35

@Letsgoogogo

There's lots of barbecue options in the shops now that are nice as they're meat or chicken but nice flavours (M and S have some nice ones) and easy to add a nice salad or veg to. Some have some fresh slaws too that aren't creamy or oily to add flavour and some more veg.

Get some teriyaki chicken skewers, various supermarkets have versions of them for barbecues etc. Don't know where you shop (I shop all over the place!) but Tesco do a nice Yakitori chicken king kebab at the moment. Stick in the oven and serve with cooked fine green beans tossed in a little bit of soya sauce and sesame oil. Quick and easy!

If others are eating too that want carbs or if you want some add some sticky rice or jasmine rice. You can get those Veetee microwave cartons of it if you want to keep things easy.

Get some peri peri chicken steaks or drumsticks, serve with salad and a few sweet potatoe wedges (put some Schwartz paprika and garic chip seasoning on the wedges before cooking.

Get some sea bass and shred some leeks, courgettes and carrots. Fry the veg for a couple of mins until softened then make foil parcels with the veg on the bottom, fish on top and add a bit of liquid and whatever seaonings you want.
For Chinese style I add soy, ginger, sesame oil, rice wine, garlic.

You could do a Mediterranean one with sundried tomatoes, peppers, courgette, garlic, a drizzle of olive oil and some white wine etc. (or a splash of stock if you prefer). Then shove the parcel in the oven for about 15-20 mins (depending on size of fish.)
Pretty quick, tastes yummy, hard to overcook the fish as all stays moist and looks impressive when you open the steaming parcels!

Fajitas are quick and easy, just slice peppers, onions, and chicken, fry up with some Fajita seasoning, Sainsburys do a good one that's not full of crap and, if you don't want carbs, wrap in romaine lettuce leaves. Actually you can wrap lots of nice things in romaine lettuce, it's reasonable sturdy.

RagzRebooted · 24/05/2024 13:40

@lurkylurk lovely meal ideas, thank you!

lurkylurk · 24/05/2024 13:41

Sea bass fillets for the parcels, not whole ones, they'd take longer! Can use any fish though, or chicken. Chicken would take a bit longer too, although cut butterfly a breast to flatten it out.

lurkylurk · 24/05/2024 13:42

I love cooking, could list ideas all day long but thought I'd better stop there!😂
