Please note: Mounjaro can only be taken if your BMI is above 30.

Pointers for newbies:

1 - For taking your first dose you need to twist the pen a lot to get to 1! The instructions say prime each time you take a dose, but actually Eli Lilly have confirmed you only need to prime for the first ever use of a pen. (The video posted says every use, but this isn't true!)

2 - When injecting, hold down the button until the number goes back to 0. Once at 0, keep holding down the button and count to 5 with the needle still in so no medication is lost!

3 - Your first dose may not have an immediate effect. For some people the effects build slowly. It could take 3 or 4 days to notice anything, it could take a few weeks. Some people don't feel the meds working until they get to 5mg. See titration chart which shows how the medication builds up in your system. Also below you can plot the effect of your doses.
glp1plotter.com/

4 - 2.5mg isn't a therapeutic dose, meaning you aren’t meant to lose on 2.5mg. You need to start on 2.5mg to get your body used to the drug and gradually introduce it into your system and get used to any side effects.

5 - Not everyone loses a lot in the first few weeks. Don't feel discouraged if you don't lose a lot initially. Again, you might need a higher dose to start losing. Also, inches can be lost without anything showing on the scales. Start your journey by taking measurements and check them as you go along.

6 - If you do lose a lot in the first few weeks, please don't assume you will continue losing at this rate. The first few weeks it is usually water weight that is lost, after than a good weight loss is about 2lbs a week. Some weeks you might not lose anything, but this is ok too…again, taking measurements might show inches lost instead.

7 - Constipation, coldness, nausea, diarrhea, headaches, aches, are side effects. There may be be other side effects also. Read info here :

www.medicines.org.uk/emc/product/15481/pil#about-medicine

8 - Once you take your first dose you can choose to keep your pen in the fridge or somewhere else. It's up to you.

9 - Don't reuse any needles as this could risk infection. If you damage a needle or one isn't working, you can buy a pack of about 100 spares. www.chemist-4-u.com/carepoint-pen-needles-31g-4mm-pack-of-100?gclid=Cj0KCQjwiYOxBhC5ARIsAIvdH51rLZBVFQxuvS7mDJooegtK8BMiyT0PwREMRHhH_1atfQIo8TEbsmkaAkA0EALw_wcB

Also there is a 5th dose in each pen. To extract it you can either try a hard twist or use an insulin needle.
medbasic.co.uk/bd-micro-fine-30g-1ml-syringes-needles

10 - Protein is important as eating less protein can cause muscle wastage and hair loss. Try to have at least 100g a day.

11 - Some natural sources of protein:
www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/best-sources-protein
www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/321522#high-protein-foods

12 - You can use supplements, some that people use are magnesium(for sleep and constipation), protein(to reduce muscle wastage), collagen (skin elasticity), aloe vera(for constipation), electrolytes.

13 - Drink lota of water. Water helps with the weight loss. Drink at least 2ltrs a day. Preferably 3ltrs.

14 - Don't be afraid to feel hungry. It is entirely normal and healthy to feel hungry. Just eat something. Treat it as an opportunity to start good habits around hunger. Eat a nice balanced snack or a meal if it's a meal time. It's ok.

15 - Does it makes any difference where you inject? yes it does! Drugs get absorbed at different rates depending on injection site

In order of fastest absorption, it goes:
• Tummy
• Arms
• Thighs
furthet reading about injection sites and the effects: www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/316618

16 - Abdominal side-effects are much easier to control with smaller meals. For example, having 4 small meals in the day vs 2 big meals can have an improvement in nausea and burps.

17 - You can track your calories / protein on apps such as My fitnessPal, Carb Manager or Nutracheck. Nutracheck is quite useful and easy to find foods /build recipes.

18 - Some of the places you can order from are:

MedExpress 2.5mg and 5mg. £149.99. 7.5mg £169. Use code STARTNOW. Ask for other codes if that doesn't work.
The Family Chemist 2.5mg and 5mg -£149. 7.5mg £169.
Simple online pharmacy - £159 2.5mg £179 5mg
Bolt pharmacy 2.5mg £125, 5mg £179. 7.5mg £189
Asda 2.5mg and 5mg £184. 7.5mg £189
Boots £219 +
Chemist4U £179 +
Superdrugs

19 - If you want to switch suppliers, make sure you have pics of your Mounjaro box with your name and dose. This will come in useful when other suppliers ask for evidence.

@MrsBurtMacklin I do exactly that. Just before I start my period I get the hormonal hunger. MJ does suppress it though. Before I would stuff a bag of Haribo and then start on pizza quite merrily. I get even more thirsty. Weight goes up a couple of pounds now even though I eat no differently. It has every period on MJ.

Period starts. I bleed for about a week and then at the end of the period I tend to whoosh and drop the gain and another couple of pounds.

It was that pattern that killed diets before. It’s depressing AF to see gain for no… reason. Well, there is a reason. Hormones and water.

It’s this pattern I have to stop post MJ.

Unsurprisingly, I now think it is easier as I’m lighter. Know the patterns. I’m actually getting less obsessed with the scales now I’ve lost so much. It does all even out.

@sweetpickle2 Oh no, you poor thing. I know MJ makes us digest slower, but that’s a horrible way to wake. Are you feeling OK this morning?

My weekly check in, 13 weeks in, and now lost 33lb (2 stone 5lb).

SW 13.12
CW 11. 07

Technically I have 2 stone still to lose to the the top of my ideal weight. (Short arse).

I start my first proper 7.5mg pen today, after creating the same from my 5mg one.

DownWithThisKindOfThing · 24/05/2024 07:28

Morning all

hope everyone is doing OK.

1 lb off this morning for me. Looked like it was going to go to 3 lb off but no. Bums.

So that’s 11 lb off for me in my first 4 weeks. Delighted.

I started the new pen last night and ended up just going up to 5 as I have felt 2.5 not working so well. Hope with my birthday coming up it’s not been a mistake!!

AgathaMystery · 24/05/2024 07:51

I survived the tasting menu. Couldn’t finish everything - drank lots of water, weighed and extra KILO when I got home!!!

600g heavier after a wee this morning. Not too shabby.

MrsBurtMacklin · 24/05/2024 08:00

I don't care if this is petty, but I went to the loo 😁 and weighed again and now I've lost an even 20lbs and 4lbs this week. I'm taking it!

@FlappyFish it really does even out! I'm glad I have this data now. Wouldn't know if I weighed weekly!

ThirdStorm · 24/05/2024 08:04

I’ve just taken my free 5th dose in pen one, as others have reported the twist was tough but my pliers helped me twist it to “1”. Second pen waiting for me in the fridge to start next week, staying at 2.5. I’m now 4 weeks in. I’ve lost 9.5% of my body weight which is incredible. I have been quite successful with keto in the past but I think MJ has just given my willpower a much needed boost and occasional reminders that I’ve eaten enough when before I’d keep going. I’ve kept to plain eating and calorie deficit and I think I’ve largely avoided negative side effects. I’ve enjoyed good food suppression. I’m so pleased I did this. I’ve taken my BMI from 31 to 27.8 and shaved 6 inches off my waist. I’m now at the half way point. I’ll get my blood pressure checked next month so really hoping my efforts will show as it was high.

I’ve told one friend about taking MJ. I don’t plan to tell anybody. I know I’m not cheating. But I can’t be bothered with other peoples perceptions. The UK media has done us a disservice. I know I’ve stuck rigidly to my diet plan. I’ve done the hard work.

Creamcheesedreams · 24/05/2024 08:08

I'm now on week 3 of 2.5mg and all going well so far I think!

I feel like I have zero energy though is that a side effect or just me struggling to eat regularly?

Any tips? Other than drinking red bull or Lucozade? Grin

AgathaMystery · 24/05/2024 08:09

@Creamcheesedreams plenty of liquid and plenty of protein - and no red bull & lucozaide - too sugary and your pancreas will just dump insulin and you’ll stall.

GlueNoGlue · 24/05/2024 08:10

Weigh day for me and I’ve only lost 1lb. I know it’s something but it’s the least I’ve lost since starting and feeling a bit sorry for myself. I’ve still got loads to lose so going to use this as a kick up the arse to step up and start doing some exercise (was relying on counting steps to measure increased exercise level).

so, has anyone got any suggestions for exercise videos, preferably on Netflix or YouTube, TV at work for an uncoordinated person?

PissedOffNeighbour22 · 24/05/2024 08:26

Well done everyone so far on today's weigh ins

Today MFP shows I've lost exactly 20% of my body weight!

Starting weight 15st 11lb 8oz
Last week's weight 12st 12lb 6oz
Current weight 12st 9lb 4oz

I pushed my jab back a day this week as I was so hungry and I'm STARVING today despite it being less than 48hrs since injecting.

BusyMummy001 · 24/05/2024 08:33

So I’ve been on meds for a year. I only tell people if they ask which, now I am 60lbs down, I do get asked. My neighbour is a GP and when she asked I said ‘I have to confess to having had help from Ozempic/Mounjaro’ and she immediately questioned by apology, saying a patient she had this week couched her explanation in the same language. I explained that, with my PCOS/Thyroid/insulin resistance menopause weight-gain had been a killer and that I was a little embarrassed about my lack of ability to lose it by ‘traditional’ means … but that my blood results/health indices a year on were not only ‘better’ than a year ago, but now ‘optimal’ and, in several areas, ‘better than the average man on the street’.

She asked about diet changes but observed that she’s already seen me plant up (from bare mud) and maintain our new garden over the last year, acquired a 2nd dog/puppy that we walk for more than an hour daily (now he’s old enough), so she could see I had changed my lifestyle significantly. What I got from this conversation is the confidence to be more open about my weight-loss journey… although as I know some people (women) will be catty no matter what you say (see that other MN thread) I will still be a little selective about who I am open about it with!

Hello everyone,
complete newbie here but would love to join you. I’ve been doing lots of research and think I’m about to take the plunge.
just got a couple of questions I think you lovely lot might be able to help with…
Does anyone have ADHD? I’m self diagnosed/unmedicated ADHD and loads of my overeating, snacking, lack of willpower is dopamine seeking and not really living in the present so I can easily eat 6 biscuits in a row without really realising. Do you find it helps with food noise/ will it affect my mood/ what will
I do instead when I need a dopamine fix?!
I know I probably have high cortisol- I literally didn’t get more that 3 hours sleep a night for about 5 years, (3 ND babies back to back!) so I know that’s taken a huge toll on my body/metabolism- will this help?
im definitely peri menopausal- periods about 3 months apart now- will that affect my weight loss?
maintenance- is this forever? If I manage to reach my goal weight- (I’ve been overweight for 10 years now and my bmi has crept up to 31) can i gradually come off the injections or is this a lifelong thing?

thanks so much for any insights- such an amazingly informative and supportive thread.

I’ve only just started so I can’t help much but just to let you know I’m with you on the sleep thing. I haven’t had a full night’s sleep in 6 years due to ND DS, and I usually average 3-4 hours a night. It really messed with my ability to diet effectively, hunger on top of exhaustion was just one thing too many to deal with. I’m hoping Mounjaro will take away the bulk of that gnawing hunger feeling.

ADHD here. Found Ozempic/MJ great for reducing ‘food noise’ and thus means my concentration in other areas is better. I found that I’ve always been a little obsessive - whether it be on a hobby, special interest, or my current diet plan/food intake. This removes the food obsession and frees me up to focus on important stuff (like my PhD and the kids).

I am hoping that I will have made significant enough changes to diet/lifestyle that I won’t need to be on this forever, but am hoping to do a planned tapering off. If it looks as though I would be better on a low/maintenance dose at the end of that, I am reconciled to it though.

I have undiagnosed ADHD too.

I have found the lack of dopamine from food a struggle and have ended up back on anxiety medication.

I've forced myself to start reading for pleasure again, because screen time wasn't doing it for me either. Reading has helped massively to get a quick fix. So if suggest finding something small and easy that you enjoy to get the dopamine. My sister crochets for example.

Hi I am using mounjaro from Asda online pharmacy, I have a 10% off code for anyone newly using Asda. 2.5mg and 5mg pens are £179 so would be £161 with the discount. If anyone is interested let me know.

FlappyFish · 24/05/2024 09:09

I don’t know much about ADHD so I can’t help there. Sure more will be able to give info as MJ seems to do a lot more than appetite.

I thought it would amuse you all that after my drop to 11.5 yesterday this morning I went back to 11.8. Constipation and period due. It’s late actually. Not eaten anything different at all. Thirsty as hell.

Not bothered at all. I know exactly what it is. Injection done and life goes on. That kind of gain before for no reason would mentally destroy me. Now I shrug and get on with my day.

Weirdly looking forward to it.

Haven't drank the case of wine that arrived two weeks ago, I've had one bottle shared with my daughter. But protein drinks and collagen, cannot wait! Who am I 😂

After months of constipation I now have the runs! God knows why!

Down to 10-9.6 though so guess that's a good thing.

I have 3 more doses of 5mg and have already bought a 7.5. However I'm considering taking 3.75 to start winding down the dose. I'm constantly worrying about maintaining (especially as I'm getting married next year) and I really don't want to have a mad flap after Xmas to lose a bunch of weight again! So I'm thinking of halving the 7.5 and then maybe getting a 5mg again and also halving. Thoughts?

Waspwine · 24/05/2024 09:16

Good morning all,

Great job everyone!

Not a huge loss for me this week (week 4 @ 2.5mg) 0.6lbs but ill take it!

I sorted my incorrect purchase from pharmacy2u and have my 5mg pen ready to go for next week.

I used some of the extra left in my pen after my last dose yesterday to do a mid dose (adding to my last 2.5), in the hope I won’t have too many side effects from 5mg. Twisting was a little hard and I lost count of clicks as it’s started to slide rather than click (not sure why). I used a new needle and injected the amount twisted to but didn’t inject all that was left.

Question; I wanted to ask how some of you were eating ie were you reducing carbs/sugar a little? and if you’ve found this helps with your rate of loss and also with any side effects?

Cerialkiller · 24/05/2024 09:29

Well, its finally happened.

4th week weigh in and I have broken through the 1 stone barrier and lost 3lb this week. On any other diet losing 3lb on the 4th week of a diet would be a friken' miracle. I'm starting to think this might actually work! I took a 3.75 dose on wednesday which may have helped and also out of frustration yesterday had a 80% protein day. Fish kebabs, meatballs in tomato with cheese and a tablespoon of peas. think this helped the final push.

Its been a long long time since I lost a stone in one go, usually it 8-10lb max before a stall/slow and then I waver and think 'fuck it' usually when i spy the krispy kreams in tescos.

Its really good to see a 12 on the scales!
