So last night I went out for a curry with friends and it was the first time I’d eaten with a group since starting Mounjaro. We met in the pub beforehand and I had a fake G&T when I would normally have a couple of glasses of red wine. Easy to explain as I was driving.

On to dinner and I avoided the poppadums and chutney with another friend who was trying to lose weight. Main course I ordered salmon with stir fry veg and had to work really hard with the waiter who tried to get me to order rice or bread so I chose a side dish of curried potato and cauliflower as I felt pressured. when the food arrive the portions were huge - two pieces of salmon and piles of veg. Normally I’d have been thrilled but my heart sank as I thought I won’t be able to eat all that. I’m usually the girl that ordered creamy lamb pasanda with peshwari naan and half and half chips and rice.

anyway what I learned was that if you talk lots during the meal and eat your food slowly you can mask your food intake quite well. I left lots but so did my friends and no one questioned my reduced intake as they were all focussed on enjoying their food. Apart from the waste of uneaten food (I should have asked for a carry out bag) I felt I had successfully negotiated the evening and to me it was a big deal. I’m not ready to tell friends yet.

How have you all coped with eating with others who don’t know what you are doing?

Silvesterthecat · 29/06/2024 14:52

@Greentrilby i went for an all you can Chinese with a group of friends and didn’t really think about it beforehand. The starters came out and I ate as per usual, by the time the 2nd course came out I was feeling dreadful - I was so stuffed full and got massive belly ache and it was churning and I came over all shaky and sweaty and grey!! I knew what it was but hadn’t told anyone so I had to say something hadn’t agreed with me and sit the rest of the night out!!

ClonedSquare · 29/06/2024 15:55

@Greentrilby I've found for "normal" sized meals out (ie plated meals), I can still eat the same amount as usual if I want to if I have an early small lunch to accommodate. But I often leave bits if I've eaten or drunk anything in the hours before the meal. I absolutely can't eat buffet style or big Indian portions anymore. I tend to focus on the meat parts of the meals, and leave the carb sides.

ChangeEmailAddress · 29/06/2024 21:51

I'm loving eating out. I can choose smaller lighter meals and I thoroughly enjoy them and leave a bit. Before this, I used to basically order the belly filler - I always felt hungry, even after a big meal, and never said no to anything.

ClonedSquare · 29/06/2024 22:19

Unfortunately guys, I can confirm that Mounjaro does not stop you from eating your feelings after a day of potty training a toddler who looks you in the eye and says "I like wet pants" 😂🤦‍♀️

Hoping I can get a grip of myself tomorrow and save this weeks weigh in on Monday!

Greentrilby · 29/06/2024 22:29

@Silvesterthecat oh sorry to hear you were ill but it sounds like you styled it out. Well done for battling through.

@ClonedSquare good idea to focus on the main part of the meal and ignore the carbs. Sounds like you’ve had a stressful day so don’t beat yourself up too much and enjoy your evening’s lapse. Two year olds can be very frustrating but then they are quirky, cute and gorgeous so you forgive them everything. Almost.

@ChangeEmailAddress once i get my mind in gear I think I will enjoy eating out again too

Blackcat50 · 30/06/2024 09:04

I’ve woken up feeling horrendous today and not sure if it’s the side effects I missed on 2.5mg. I took my 1st 5mg jab Friday night. My stomach is turning can’t decide if I feel like I’m going to be sick or have an upset stomach. Wherever the waistband sits from trousers, it’s just uncomfortable. I’m also belching a lot. Feeling light headed. If you had similar, how long did it last? I feel horrendous!

Sassenach85 · 30/06/2024 10:26

I’ve hit my first week of no loss! 🙈 had a night out and a cheeky takeaway so I’m blaming that. Disappointed with myself. So week 6, total loss still 16pounds.

need to up my water also, I’ve been slacking on that too. I don’t feel any difference in the 5mg … feel the same as I did at the end of 2.5

ClonedSquare · 30/06/2024 18:36

@Greentrilby Very true, he's lucky he's cute. Luckily it seems my bad day yesterday didn't mess up my reading today so fingers crossed for tomorrow!

@Blackcat50 I didn't have those symptoms but I hope you're feeling better now, or they improve later in the week!

@Sassenach85 No loss is better than a gain and everyone needs a cheeky takeaway now and then! It's so hard to get the water in, I was drinking loads of it on 2.5mg but now at 5mg I find it fills me up much more so I have to be strategic!

ClonedSquare · 01/07/2024 08:03

Weekly weigh in done, I lost 2lbs this week which I'm happy with. I lost 12.5lbs on 2.5mg and 10.5lbs on 5mg so pretty steady overall, although the amount lost each week varied wildly. Sticking with 5mg for now, but will go up to 7.5mg next month if I feel it wearing off.

I'm 2lbs away from breaking the nearest stone barrier, and 5.5lbs away from having lost 2 stone total. My BMI is down 4 points from the start which I'm very pleased with.

Loss this week: 2lbs
Loss this month: 12lbs
Total loss so far: 23lbs in 8 weeks

3wDavid · 01/07/2024 10:46

Just checking in!

I'm exactly 10 KG down today, since I started on May 25. I am chuffed! Long may it last!
Still on 2.5 mg, but considering my next jab (jab 7) to be 3.75 instead and see how I feel. I'm definitely getting more hunger pangs and cravings, although I am very disciplined and eating healthy.

Well done @3wDavid that’s an amazing loss.
So pleased for you.
I’m down 30 pounds in 8 weeks and last 2 weeks on 3.5mg dose as a bit afraid to do 5mg yet as having good suppression on this dose. Will go up to 5mg if it eases off but going with the advice to stay on low dose if working well.
I have a long way to go on MJ so hopefully 🤞 keeps working for us all.

colleysmill · 02/07/2024 06:44

Good morning my (secret) May starters!

Lovely to read all the successes! Another nice steady 2lbs off for me this week which surprised me tbf as I did indulge in more alcohol over the last weekend and it's that time in my cycle I usually gain water weight.

Sw 14/05 12 St 7lb
Wk 7 02/07 11st 3.2lb

18lbs in total which I am over the moon about.

@Blackcat50 i had the same that 1st week of 5mg. Felt utterly awful with stomach cramps and nausea for about 2 days after. It has been much less since then though.

im due to order my next pen and I'm debating sticking at 5mg rather than heading up to 7.5mg. That 10 st something mark though is within touching distance though......

ClonedSquare · 02/07/2024 10:41

Congrats @colleysmill @CrystaltipsnoAlistair @3wDavid ! So nice to see everyone persevering, I'd definitely have given up by now on a normal diet.

I'm not feeling the really strong suppression I usually get the first three days this time. Not sure if it's a placebo because I "should" have gone up to 7.5mg but didn't, or if it genuinely is having less effect.

QueenGoo · 03/07/2024 01:28

Oh hello my fellow Maynjaro-ers! I've been on MJ 8 weeks today and have only just found this group. Come across from another MJ thread.
8 weeks today and lost 23.5lb - that little half lb has narked me enough for me to just fib and tell everyone I've lost 2stone 😏 long may it continue!

CrystaltipsnoAlistair · 03/07/2024 17:02

Congratulations @QueenGoo thats a brilliant loss. It’s a good thread and everyone really supportive.
Are you doing 5mg ?

QueenGoo · 03/07/2024 18:15

@CrystaltipsnoAlistair thankyou! Yeah I've just had my 5th dose at 5mg which I'm happy continuing as the suppression is too real right now!

Also side note. On waking up this morning I'd lost another half a lb so I don't have to lie anymore haha x

3wDavid · 03/07/2024 19:10

Oof dinner was a right slog.

I did my first 3.75 mg jab in the morning and was fine for lunch - had a nice good sized salad with grilled chicken, and even a protein bar for dessert.

Just got dinner ready a while back and it was another yummy salad, and managed like 7 forkfuls.

I’ll try a protein pudding a bit later because I’m not reaching the calories today, but we’ll see how that goes.

It’s nice though, as I definitely struggled a lot more with food noise and appetite the last week or two and was managing on willpower alone.

mostlyhalfbaked · 03/07/2024 19:29

Hi all, I had my first person notice my weight loss today. I've definitely lost weight off my face. I'm down 7.3kg, so just over a stone.

SW 115.3kg May 31st
CW 108 kg

@Blackcat50 I have also felt awful this past few days having had my first 5mg jab. It seems to have calmed down now, but I'm due to have my next dose on Friday and I don't know whether to try and inject less, or hope that I won't feel so bad next time.

Blackcat50 · 03/07/2024 20:01

@mostlyhalfbaked
I felt much better Sunday afternoon after I had been ill. Was fine Monday only to be ill again in the early hours of the morning. Oddly I’ve felt much better when I have an empty stomach so wondering if it’s what I’m eating that caused the reaction. That said, it was beans on toast Saturday night and meat and veg on Monday night. I haven’t eaten much since but will be having tea shortly so will see how it goes. Like you I am jabbing again on Friday and think I might go for a lower dose, maybe 3.75mg if I can find the clicks to be on the safe side. Hope you continue to feel better

Everyone is doing so well with their loses, really great to see!

CrystaltipsnoAlistair · 03/07/2024 22:21

@3wDavid Glad the dose seems to work for you so far. I’m a bit concerned about going on to 5 so now done 3 weeks on 3.5. Suppression is good but I feel nauseous a few times a day especially in the morning first thing.
@QueenGoo Well done. Do you feel okay on the 5mg re side effects? Glad the suppression good for you.

QueenGoo · 03/07/2024 22:39

@CrystaltipsnoAlistair I get a little headachey and nauseous a few hours after the initial injection each week but nothing too full on. The jump up from 2.5 to 5 was a bit of a shock to the system but again, wasn't more than a headache and bit of nausea. 24 hours after injection I'm perfectly fine, just the heavy suppression. I did feel a little sick after dinner today as I was having to force some calories in but I listened to my body, stopped eating and was fine soon after! X

CrystaltipsnoAlistair · 03/07/2024 22:51

Thanks @QueenGoo for your experiences. Just scared to make the leap yet as the 3.5mg seems enough and like you am somewhat nauseous with eating. I just seem to want pretty bland healthy foods but still like the odd bag of crisps 😊
Am down 2 stones in 8 weeks so it definitely works.

QueenGoo · 03/07/2024 23:03

@CrystaltipsnoAlistair that's fantastic results and tbh. No point rushing through the doses and paying more for higher strength pens when clearly the lower doses works for you!
I seem to be eating the same things day to day (some form of chicken on top of a salad, usually Caesar minus the croutons) as it's about all I can face and actually quite enjoy it. I'm sure I will eventually get sick of it but for now it works for me so Im happy x

Greentrilby · 04/07/2024 11:32

Hi everyone, lots of positive posts here recently and we all seem to be finding our groove re dose.

Weigh in day for me and another 2 lbs loss, giving a cumulative loss of 22lbs over eight weeks which I’m very happy with.
SW 14st 4lbs
CW 12st 10lbs

over the last four weeks I’ve taken 4 x 4mg jabs from a 5mg pen and hope I can extract a bonus dose next week. I think I’m going to order another 5mg pen and up my dose to 5mg as I seem to be doing ok.

im probably going to switch from Zava to Bolt as they offer a maintenance dose. I’m a long way off that but if I don’t switch now I think I’ll have difficulty doing it later. What do you think?
