It has taken me 11.5 weeks but I've finally hit the 1 stone loss. 🕺🏼

Omg I need some help!

Long story short I have been having issues with the pen and have just injected 3 x 1mg doses!!!

I thought the dose was in the needle package. Stupid stupid me.

Should I just go back to bed and sleep it out?!

First of all how?!?

Secondly what dose were you on before? If you've taken 3mg after being on 2.4 that's one thing but if this is a bigger step up the impact might be quite drastic.

Don't tell me this was your first dose please!!!

How? What do you mean when you say you thought the dose was in the needle? Do you mean you have fully turned the pen and injected, then done that three times?

What was your previous dose? I’d imagine you’re in for a lot of side effects. Hope it’s not too bad for you.

Thislittlepiggylikeschocolate · 08/06/2024 10:28

I feel so utterly stupid!
Was previously on .5mg
Yes I twisted 3 times

Thislittlepiggylikeschocolate · 08/06/2024 10:29

What a flipping idiot.
I thought the dose was in the little plastic container! Not the pen.
Honestly I'm not completely stupid bit seem to have had a mental blank

What do you mean you turned it three times?

You have a 1mg pen (brown) and you turned it all the way up to 1 on the counter, injected, then repeated twice more?

What dose were you trying to achieve with that if you were on 0.5?

It's likely you're going to have some pretty severe gastrointestinal distress and watch for needing medical intention.

Thislittlepiggylikeschocolate · 08/06/2024 10:36

Because I stupidly thought the dose was in the plastic container surrounding the needle.
Not the actual pen.

Thislittlepiggylikeschocolate · 08/06/2024 10:37

I wasn't really posting for people to make me feel even worse, I just wondered whether there was anything I could do/eat to make the side effects less.

Thislittlepiggylikeschocolate · 08/06/2024 10:41

I've been taking it since March. I just had some sort of a mental blank
I can't believe I did it. Luckily it's the weekend so I can just go back to bed if needed.

I have already lost 2 stone with one more to go, so have a feeling this will make matters worse

I’m sorry this happened @Thislittlepiggylikeschocolate. what have your side effects been like so far?

Firstly I’d drink lots of water for the next few days. Like lots. Get a bottle of gaviscon, some Imodium and some psyllium husks just in case. You’ll have to eat really clean for the next few days, and maybe only really small portions 5/6 times a day instead of 3 meals. Finally I’d wait to take your next dose for 10/11 days. This medication has a cumulative effect and you need to reduce the accumulation for the moment. So lots of water, small amounts of protein and veg, and lots of sleep. Keep an eye on your bowel movements- make sure to take the psyllium husks if you don’t go for 4/5 days.

Thislittlepiggylikeschocolate · 08/06/2024 11:02

Bless you @lastapache
I feel fine at the moment but only took it about an hour ago!
I'm drinking water now and will keep this up. My biggest worry is fainting or my blood sugar going low, and don't think I should drive (traffic awful here and nothing in walking distance).
I have some indigestion tablets I could try to take maybe.
Yes to small meals as well. Luckily have an online shop today later.
Need to be OK for Tues to drive my son for gcse. Bad timing and feeling incredibly stupid 😕

AhBiscuits · 08/06/2024 11:04

How did you take the 0.5 dose? It works the same?
You may need some medical advice I think. Worth a call to 111.

Thislittlepiggylikeschocolate · 08/06/2024 11:09

Hi @AhBiscuits
I know, I'd also taken the .25 dose before, so HOW didn't I realise.

All I can say is that I've had a fair amount of stress, and wasn't feeling with it this morning.
Feeling too stupid to phone 111.
My biggest worry is low blood sugar, so I'm going to read what I can do if this happens.
Unsurprisingly given my user name, I do have some chocolate in the house!

AhBiscuits · 08/06/2024 11:15

I would expect some pretty severe vomiting and diarrhoea by this time tomorrow.
I hope you get through it OK.

OP posts:
AhBiscuits · 08/06/2024 11:16

Maybe have a sugary drink on standby as I can't see you being able to eat.

OP posts:
ImPunbelievable · 08/06/2024 11:21

@Thislittlepiggylikeschocolate I wasn't trying to make you feel worse I was hoping that from my explanation you'd realise you had done something a bit different and hadn't injected as much as you thought. If you did it three times were you trying to jump from 0.5 to 1.5?

I agree it's likely you'll have severe vomiting/diarrhea so I'd make sure you have supplies to help with that eg electrolytes and some support on hand if needed

Thislittlepiggylikeschocolate · 08/06/2024 11:27

@ImPunbelievable
I was only trying to take the regular dose and there was no way I would want to take more as I've lost weight pretty well so far.
But had somehow go it into my mind that the dose was in the little plastic container. My brain just wasn't with it. Too preoccupied with worrying about poor Michael Mosley 😢

lastapache · 08/06/2024 11:43

You should be alright as long as you keep eating regularly. Yes, semaglutide increases insulin but only to what is needed to break down the food you’ve eaten. People feel faint or have low blood sugar on this medication because they forget to eat. Perhaps have some ritz crackers on hand before you drive anywhere. You should be fine. There’s an ongoing trial where people are taking 7.2mg a week (albeit by going slowly upwards) so 3mg isn’t going to do any harm apart some short lived symptoms.

DontLookBakk · 08/06/2024 12:21

@Thislittlepiggylikeschocolate - can you message or ring the pharmacy that has provided the pen? They will be able to check the possible side effects and advise accordingly.
I know that what I get even on the 1mg dose is low blood pressure (initially I thought it was low blood sugar but then realised it was low blood pressure) and the main thing to do for that is to stay hydrated so until you can get clinical advice please stay hydrated and also perhaps eat little and often?
We all make mistakes and we are all here to support you.
Please keep us updated on how you are x

PrimalLass · 08/06/2024 12:44

Some people in the US went straight onto higher doses. You need to eat sugar a little bit and often.

PrimalLass · 08/06/2024 12:46

Maybe ask on the Reddit semaglutide board too
