I have decided to start with Mourjano. Have put an order in with Asda and should hopefully be delivered soon!

Anyone else going to give Mourjano a go?

@NoAprilFool It’s not hunger but rather a feeling of fullness and not wanting to eat. I guess you don’t really feel hunger because you are eating regularly and that’s normal. I can’t remember the last time I felt really hungry.

What you are describing is essentially eating for a dopamine hit and this is what the medication stifles. Someone posted a link to an interesting article about Mounjaro’s dampening effect on dopamine seeking behaviour up thread. Worth a read.

Dopamine seeking behaviour is typical of addiction… those of us who are obese seek our dopamine hits through food when we’re sad/ happy/ bored.

But yes the mechanism via which this is achieved is appetite suppression via a hormone effect. So if that doesn’t feel relevant for you, maybe other options (therapy or hypnotherapy possibly?) would suit better?

izzy2076 · 13/03/2024 03:23

Not enjoying the insomnia tonight on day 1. Slept 2 hours from 10-12 and been awake ever since! Will this last?

2Tired4Anything · 13/03/2024 04:45

@ChequeredPastel I felt it the same day. Mounjaro definitely feels stronger than Wegovy I had in the past.

@NoAprilFool I’m also a stress eater and it’s definitely worked for me. You won’t know if you don’t test

@NCfor24 it depends on where you work. I’ve been relatively lucky in terms of side-effects but I don’t think it affects you thinking, mostly just affects your gut. I got mine from Bolt Pharmacy too, they usually deliver pretty quick. If you work from home then I would just take it when it arrives or start on the weekend.

NoAprilFool · 13/03/2024 08:24

Thanks for sharing that article, really interesting.

i definitely identify with dopamine seeking behaviour (I used to drink too much wine, but am now teetotal).

I’m going to give it a go but am really nervous. I’ve read through the whole thread though - thank you all for being so open and honest.

I’m starting at 13st 1 (BMI 34 as I’m a shortarse!)

I’m on day 5 now and have had insomnia too. I almost replied to you at 3.30am but thought it wouldn’t be helpful to start chatting!

I’m more energised and can still function during the day despite the insomnia.

Week three weigh in for me. Still delighted with how things are going. I am a perimonopausal shortie with PCOS (oh, the glamour! 😁). I have always struggled with my weight but things have got worse with middle age.

SW: 13st 10
After 1 week: Feb 28th 13st 2 (- 8 pounds)
After 2 weeks: March 6th 12st 12 (- 4 pounds)
After 3 weeks: March 13th 12st 9 (-3 pounds)

Grand total loss: 15 pounds (1st 1Ib)

BMI down from over 35 to 32
Energy - feeling much more lively and sleeping better according to my Fitbit.
Heartburn - no longer an issue.

I'd love to know how my blood sugar is doing (I was 0.1 off diabetes when I began) but I will have to wait another couple of months to get my hBa1c done.

Perhaps the best thing about Mourjano is that this just feels really straightforward. By now, I would normally have failed at whatever new scheme I had tried and be beating myself up for being a terrible pperson. I am only now realising how exhausting that was mentally!

Wonkypictureframe · 13/03/2024 08:51

Woo! So pleased for you.

I jabbed yesterday. So far no side effects, no noticeable difference in appetite, and when I had a sneaky weigh this morning I was a pound heavier than yesterday. Not going to take that to heart of course but it did make me laugh.

Choux · 13/03/2024 08:52

Just did my second injection. It went really smoothly and I feel like an old hand at it already.

Week 1 weight loss was 4lb. Hopefully I can lose 2-3lb a week going forward and hit my targa within 3-4 months. I don't have a target exactly as it's about how I feel and look but I imagine I will want to lose about 30lb total.

Last week was a breeze in the first half of the week as food just seemed... irrelevant. As it wore off I did need some willpower but I think my stomach shrank so was easier to stick to small portions.

The only slight side effects I had was Fri night dinner when I ate something high fat and felt a bit bloated and gassy despite it being a small portion. Week 2 I will focus on making good food choices when eating.

I definitely feel things wearing off by day five too. I move to 0.5 after this week, so I am hoping that will last all week 💪

Just taken my 4th dose.

Starting weight 15st 11.8
Last week's weight 14st 12
Current weight 14st 8.2

I'm surprised I've lost this week as I've really struggled. TOTM is due too and usually I'm bloated and eating everything in sight. Incidentally my period is late and it never is so could be down to Mounjaro.

Ive reviewed my measurements and have lost 2 inches from my bust (😭) and hips, 1.5 inches from my waist and half an inch off each thigh. What is quite worrying is that the worst part, my apron stomach, has lost nothing from it.

My biggest worry about losing weight is that I won't be able to shift my tummy and I'll end up looking worse in the long run or need surgery to remove the saggy fat. I read something online from someone this had happened to and she went from being a large hourglass figure to looking very round as she couldn't shift the belly weight.

I've ordered some needles to get the extra dose from the pen but they haven't come in time. If they come Friday I will inject it and then move my injection day to Friday as I think that will work better for me around work.

That's an amazing loss, well done. I have the same concern, not losing the lower belly and it being really pronounced.

Great losses @Thebaldprimadonna and@PissedOffNeighbour22 !

You are smashing it!

I also am struggling with sleeping. Woke up at 4.30am this morning and felt like morning so didn't bother trying to go back to sleep! Night before woke up at like 5.30am!

PissedOffNeighbour22 · 13/03/2024 09:36

@Stickthatupyourdojo hopefully it will start to reduce. I already have to size up at least one clothing size to fit it into my clothes and have long enough tops to cover it as it looks dreadful from the side in my work trousers.

Fingers crossed for us 😄

naturesponge · 13/03/2024 10:06

finally got my order from boots this morning, and just took my first dose. i was a bit worried that i'd done a double dose as you have to twist it so much just for one?! but it was painless and boots gave me about 100 needles so i should be able to get the extra dose out if i need, lol.

so far i feel ok! but it's been all of half an hour and i took it on an empty stomach. i took it at work because i don't really want anyone to know i'm doing it, which is embarrassing, but my family and partner are very anti these things.

i'm 5ft 1 and starting at a BMI of 31.6, weighing 75kg, so i'm firmly in the obese category. my life insurance premium went up because of my height to weigh ratio which prompted me to really want to do something about it, and i'm hoping to get down to 60 kg eventually. i am a total dopamine eater :(

Soukmyfalafel · 13/03/2024 10:28

I've been approved for this now. Still waiting for it to arrive. Very nervous about side effects, but am excited about possibly losing weight without having to put so much time and energy into it, as I don't have much of it!

SW 11st 2lb (I'm short).
GW 9st

I'm hoping to be on it for 4-5 months max due to the expense and it would normally not seem achievable. But it does look like it could be. People seem to lose fast on this.

Does anyone have energy to exercise and lift weights on such a calorie deficit?

I sure hope I’ll have the energy to lift weights as I’m
not planning to tell my PT I’m using it. She’s very much calories in v out which I’ve been failing at for decades.

Wonkypictureframe · 13/03/2024 11:09

I did a weights session with no trouble yesterday but it was only a couple of hours after injecting.

Updownleftandright · 13/03/2024 11:21

It's just arrived. Eek. I'm not sure what I'm doing with this or when to take it even!

I tried to go for a run last night and it's hard now. My joints ache and I get out of breath easily. Running a year ago and a stone lighter it was much easier and I get frequent joint pain now, especially in the winter.

I also think I'm veering towards being prediabetic as I'm a night time wee-er. It's scared me a bit. I try to exercise and don't eat terribly, all home cooked stuff and salads, but I'm peri and weight has just piled around my middle and arse. I have back fat. I just eat huge portions and keep going when I'm starting to feel full. 10 years ago I was a size six 😫

I'm worried about losing muscle on this. Under the flab I have probably okish muscles and worry about losing strength. No good being buff under a massive slab of flab though.

That's a great loss @PissedOffNeighbour22 I'm sure that your stomach will start to shrink soon. I loathe mine too, but things are slowly improving.

Just did my second injection and decided to do below my below (did to the left last week). I’m a bit worried I might have done a bit too far down. Is this an issue? Also, there were small bubbles in my pen I couldn’t get out so hoping this isn’t a problem. Has anyone else had any?

Did you prime the pen by turning the dial a couple of clicks and holding it vertically with the needle up then pushing the end of the pen. I injected this morning so it's fresh in my mind that the instructions say you should do this to get the air out and see a drop of liquid. If you don't see liquid you should repeat several times until you do. This removes the air from the vial.

SpacePatch · 13/03/2024 11:59

@Choux yes I did. All primed fine but still a couple of small bubbles in there.

Choux · 13/03/2024 12:03

Presumably the pen was vertical with needle down and air bubbles at the top when you injected so the air did not get injected. I guess that is why there is extra liquid in the pen to prevent you injecting air. You don't want to be injecting air into yourself.

SpacePatch · 13/03/2024 12:24

The pen was horizontal as I injected while standing. I’ve never injected lying down. Am I supposed to?!
