Does anyone have yellow gold rings any more?

I have strayed over here out of nosiness/I hope you don't mind!

I got married in 1999 and it seems looking back that about 2000/2003 there was a bit of a cut off between wearing yellow gold engagement and wedding rings and the move towards white gold/platinum.

I have yellow gold and 18 years on, it's starting to look really old fashioned! I was contemplating have my diamond reset in platinum but DH reckons that silver gold has been in fashion for so long now (the jeweller I spoke to about doing it said that 95% of the rings he sells now are white metal) that it'll probably get popular again Grin!

Do you have white or yellow gold? What about your friends/family?

My engagement ring is yellow gold and my wedding ring is rose gold. They are a set

I really don't like silver rings on me.

OliviaBensonOnAGoodDay · 20/01/2017 12:30

Getting married this year and having yellow gold. My engagement ring is yellow gold too.

It suits my skin tone and my style. I like that it's more unusual

BobbinThreadbare123 · 20/01/2017 12:39

It depends on what suits you and what you like. I know a few people my age who have yellow gold. I have platinum rings because I don't ever wear yellow gold and don't like it.

White gold for jewellery is an alloy of yellow gold with palladium and some silver. The rhodium plate is to hide the colour of the white gold, because that colour isn't achievable by doping (it will still be a bit yellow-y). Rose gold is gold, copper and a little bit of silver. You can get all sorts by alloying with different elements.

SugarMiceInTheRain · 20/01/2017 12:42

I have 18k yellow gold - I think it looks better against my fairly pale skin - but around the time I got married (2002) white gold was becoming more popular and a couple of my friends started to have white gold engagement/ wedding rings.

HyacinthsBucket · 20/01/2017 12:45

My wedding ring was made, from my mums wedding ring (parents divorced) and from DH's grandmothers ring - both were 22 carat gold so it's a really deep yellow. I've often thought about changing it for platinum but to be honest, I love wearing it for the sentimentality behind it. The only regret I do have is that I have a diamond solitaire engagement ring that is 18 ct gold, and the jeweller that made it also did my wedding ring and suggested a dip in my wedding ring for the engagement ring to sit in. It's great when you wear both rings, but looks twisted if you wear it on its own!!!

BadToTheBone · 20/01/2017 12:45

We got married in 2004 and I went for yellow gold engagement and wedding, I wanted to match my grandmothers, which is weird really, lol. All my friends thought I was mad as white was 'in' with one even being quite rude saying yellow will never come back, lol. I've noticed lately that yellow is coming back into style, which is was bound to!

littlepooch · 20/01/2017 12:46

I got married In 2012 and have yellow gold. I love my rings. It suits my skin tone more - against some skin tones I think white gold looks harsh. I'm sure it's the same the other way round. I like being different too - everyone I know has white gold/platinum.

HalfStar · 20/01/2017 12:49

I've my dh's grandmother's ring which is yellow gold and he's got a yellow gold ring too. Engagement ring is also yellow gold and antique. Love them.

rollonthesummer · 20/01/2017 13:40

-When I got mine reset in platinum the jeweller offered to buy my empty gold rings and I said yes without much thought. Regret it now.

Do you regret having the stone reset in platinum or just that you didn't keep the original?

Were you pleased with how it looked reset-I would love to see a photo!

Have yellow gold and rose gold/ diamond wedding, eternity and engagement bands.
I much prefer yellow gold. I'm not keen on white gold at all, it can look greyish after a while.
I love the yellow colour. It does seem to be a bit out of fashion but each to their own. I hope to wear these for the rest of my life so it's what I want and what suits me :)

OrchidaceousRose · 20/01/2017 13:57

Got married in 2012, yellow gold wedding ring and engagement ring. Yellow gold really suits my skin tone, white gold/platinum/rose gold really don't.

It's for a lifetime, so best to go with style (what suits you) rather than fashion (what everyone else is wearing). Fashion changes, style is eternal.

CommonFramework · 20/01/2017 14:01

Yes, halo rings will date. They're very 'this year'.

I got married in 1999 too, and lots of my friends have similar rings to mne: I have a two colour (white gold and yellow gold) wedding band, and diamond solitaire engagement ring.

Grumpbum · 20/01/2017 14:02

Yellow gold here, but I think I prefer platinum but rings mean to much to change

DramaAlpaca · 20/01/2017 14:03

I got married in 1990 and mine is yellow gold. I'd never change it, it means too much to me.

mistermagpie · 20/01/2017 14:05

Mine are palladium (looks the same as platinum) because all my other jewellery is silver and I didn't want it to 'clash'. I used to think yellow gold was a bit dated but a friend got married recently and has yellow gold and it really suits her, so I guess it's whatever looks best with your skin tone. My engagement/wedding/eternity rings are all very classic (boring) in style so I doubt they will date, but I think a lot of the 'halo' styles will look unfashionable in a few years.

playmobilpeacock · 20/01/2017 14:11

I got married last year and both my engagement and wedding rings are rose gold. I think they look quite classic.

DH wears his great grandfather's wedding ring from 1896 and that's rose gold too.

Redlocks28 · 20/01/2017 14:13

I agree that rose gold and halo rings will look very dated in a few years.

steppemum · 20/01/2017 14:16

I have white gold engagement and weddings rings. married lat 1990s.

It wasn't so much a fashion choice as that I only ever wear silver jewellry, never gold. I don't like gold and it doens't suit me.

My mum is blonde and she can wear silver or gold comfortably.

Dhs wedding ring is gold as he suits gold not silver, he has gold rimmed glasses and a gold -faced watch for example.

HappyAsASandboy · 20/01/2017 14:16

I got married in 2009. Almost all the rings in the high street and designer shops were platinum/white gold.

My rings are yellow gold. With my engagement ring, we paid for a design we liked to be made in yellow gold as a special order, as the 'off the shelf' in that design was platinum. This was at a very posh store, but they had very very few yellow gold options (in fact I'm not sure there were any yellow engagement ring options at all).

helpimitchy · 20/01/2017 14:19

I got married in 2003 and have yellow gold. I like it because it's traditional. My other jewellery is silver because I love silver, but I think white gold and platinum can look a bit cold and utile tbh. You also have to get white gold re plated from time to time.

You should choose what you like and not what's in fashion because it's so changeable.

NiceCuppaTeaAndASitDown · 20/01/2017 14:23

Got married in may last year and DH and I have yellow gold

Does anyone have yellow gold rings any more?
Valeriemalorie · 20/01/2017 14:24

I have yellow gold rings as they suit my skin tone and are classic. Married 2006. Also, they won't fade or need replating or anything. I don't care what the latest trends are when it comes to rings. I think rings are quite personal, mainly for you to look at yourself, so don't need to compare to other people, get what you like.

empirerecordsrocked · 20/01/2017 14:25

I have platinum, mostly because none of my other jewellery is yellow gold including watches that I wear on that hand so it would have looked out of place.

mintthins · 20/01/2017 14:28

I have yellow gold wedding and engagement rings (late 80s) and a platinum eternity ring that I wear on my other hand. I love both.

Riversleep · 20/01/2017 14:32

I have yellow gold. I've noticed the same thing that everything is platinum, even vintage style rings. Yellow gold suits my skin tone better and I still prefer it to white. My TH wanted platinum so our rings don't match.
