I think this is the earliest in the season that we have reached the letter 'I' in the met office naming system. The previous record being Storm Imogen on 8 Feb 2016.
Its certainly been an active season so far.

Amber warnings for wind for some parts, yellow for the rest, with widespread gales possible across the UK. Some fairly worrying flood concerns too where lots of rain will fall during a rapid snow and ice melt onto frozen ground.

Rowgtfc72 ~ I don't think it's early, it's just winds beginning to increase as the storm comes in.

BarryKentPoet · 21/01/2024 15:47

Very rainy in NE Scotland but not much wind yet. Trains and bin collections have been cancelled for tomorrow though!

Mid Wales. Strong gusts last couple of hours. Dog (and me!) Very unnerved.

💕

WhatTheHeckyPeck · 21/01/2024 15:56

Right at the top edge of Somerset here....very dark and windy but no rain.

Rowgtfc72 · 21/01/2024 16:04

Thanks @GloriaSmud .
Not looking forward to later then its gusting really badly here.

LaPalmaLlama · 21/01/2024 16:04

Dorset coast. Wind picking up. No rain but we’re not predicted to get much here. Just drove home from near London and there were a few big gusts on the M3. Tried to stay away from high sided lorries.

nannynick · 21/01/2024 16:12

Went for a walk whilst I was still able to do so. Wind gust 20mph (looking at local weather station data via WeatherUnderground.

Pushkinini · 21/01/2024 16:13

North Cornwall. Bit windy here but not too bad at the moment. No rain, but it's a bit damp and dark.

Barrenfieldoffucks · 21/01/2024 16:15

Picking up on Isle Of Wight

Ridiculous24 · 21/01/2024 16:28

I'm charging all the devices and dh is laughing at me.

GloriaSmud · 21/01/2024 16:29

Wind is beginning to pick up here as well (Leicester) We've tried to weigh everything down in the back garden, locked the gate (so it doesn't blow open) and moved plants that could get blown over. But I can hear wind gusts blowing past the back door now - it's always like that when we get storms and it blows along the alleyway between us and next door so I know it's going to be a noisy evening/night.

Dreading driving home from work at 730pm .30 min drive and tree lined all the way!!East Sussex.

Westfacing · 21/01/2024 16:34

A bit blustery only so far, in SW London. Hope it stays that way!

BouleBaker · 21/01/2024 16:36

Not too bad in Southampton. Watching the wind speed on Sotonmet as well as out the window.

But gusty in Nw London but think we are yellow warning only

AMuser · 21/01/2024 16:38

Was telling DS at uni in Bath not to go to pub tonight. Thought I was mad lol

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 21/01/2024 16:40

I have a tree leaning over very precariously in Dublin. I think it would have fallen except that it is very close to the shed. It's moving side to side while resting on the top of the shed so it's quite possible that as the wind increases it will take the shed down too. It's a very old shed that came with the house, not particularly well sited so that it's rotting from the bottom up and the roof felt was blown off in a previous storm so it was only months away from needing to be demolished anyway. It's a shame about the tree though, it's a rowan with very pretty berries.

That's exactly what I have told my adult children 😆

I am just outside that amber curve and keeping everything crossed for my fence!

We are on the road and it’s pretty blustery. Lots of noise wind outside, think we’re largely driving into it. The overhead signs have helpfully just told us there’s strong wind forecast. In case we hadn’t noticed.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 21/01/2024 17:14

The worst of the winds will be overnight tonight, picking up fairly rapidly now.

County Durham and it's really ramping up here, the wind is whipping around the house. The gusts are really noisy. Normally the wind doesn't bother me but it feels a bit wild.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 21/01/2024 17:20

Looking quickly at the models, Northern Ireland and western/ northern Scotland still look to bear the brunt of this with gusts of 80mph+ in ln some spots. Elsewhere particularly in the rest of the amber areas, gusts to 50-60mph and higher in exposed locations. Even in yellow warning areas you can still expect gusts to 50mph+ but with lower confidence.

It does seem to have got louder as it's got dark.

I should probably get everything out of the fridge for dinner.
