Large hail possible. Up to 4cm in diameter. If you are in the area, ensure you move indoors if storms arrive. You might want to protect delicate plants. This size hail, if it develops is enough to put dents into things and possibly to smash greenhouse windows.

If you experience large hail, please can you submit photographs with a ruler next to it.

Flash flooding is also very likely in places.

Hot and humid here 6 miles east of here there is one small blob of red on Ivybridge, Devon then nothing until you get Bristol way. Very strange. I would love a storm to clear the air - it's too hot for me now qnd my lily white skin.

Sunny and blue skies in north east wales at the moment. Hoping for a good storm (although not for any flooding)

Hot and humid afternoon in north west Bristol with plenty of loud thunder. Now we have steady light rain for the last 20 mins. We must be on the edge of the big storm.

And there it was! now the rain.

There seem to be a few of us in SW London (although I am now on the bus heading north!). Currently torrential rain and thunder.

Few miles east of Heathrow and it's bucketing down. So dark I can barely see the keyboard.

Rumbles in Burton on Trent

It's starting to look black over Bills mothers here in Leicestershire. Reckon it's coming (just at dinner time - was hoping to have BBQ after last night's washout). Grateful if I don't have to water the garden though.

Suddenly had a waft of cool air, I reckon its about to start.

These storms are heading north westwards. So, while more may pop up, you can see if you are in the main firing line of the existing storms.

SE Wales here. Hot and Sunny, very humid, but no rumbles yet.

The sky is darkening in west Oxfordshire and the first rumbles of thunder have been heard.

Zooming out so that people can see the extent of storms across the country at the moment. But the main area of concern is the area I've circled where an MSC (mesoscale convective system) is developing. One also developed yesterday. These are clusters of thunderstorms that are long lived and organised. I've put a rough direction of travel on it. It may not be completely accurate. It may also expand further as it develops.

I was in the office in Mayfair today, we had thunder, a few flashes of lightning and some rain around lunchtime, and lots of thunder and spits and spots of rain about half an hour ago. I live in SE London/Kent and it sounds like I missed it there!

Spoke to soon - massive thunderstorm in west London for the last 25 mins - just easing off now but the rain was incredible and so loud!

In Birmingham - blazing sunshine and very humid. No sign of impending doom yet. Meteoradar says 7pm for the really heavy rain (30mm!)
