Snow warning for east London and thereabouts

Weve been talking about this area of snow on the long running winter watch thread, but I want to push this one separately (in part because mn have changed their algorithms so that threads over 30 days old wont trend)

It looks like it could cause some chaos as it rotates a little anticlockwise. If you are in London this evening and need to get home tonight please check your transport operator for how they are running.

This is how one model - UKV evolves it between now and 11pm. Don't take this as how it will actually pan out, but rather the potential. It's an evolving situation. I don't know if it will pull in rain behind it or not.

I'm in South London and it's snowing, was sleety at first but now fat flakes falling

OhYouBadBadKitten · 11/12/2022 19:12

Thanks for the report Talapia! It does look like it's pivoting westwards. I should have perhaps widened my thread title more, but I didn't want to be alarmist. Several cm in parts of Kent already.

Thanks for the thread. It's been snowing in East London for about 40 mins. Fairly decent coverage already.

Talapia · 11/12/2022 19:22

It's heavy here now and settling. I'm the burbs of South London.

Snowing in SE London, it’s been a lovely day

OhYouBadBadKitten · 11/12/2022 19:25

Tomorrows commute and school run could be very challenging!

SE London too - snowing quite steadily. No sign of the gritters!

AngelsWithSilverWings · 11/12/2022 19:31

Really heavy on the Essex coast right now. We had hard frost all day and then it all melted suddenly before we had a little rain shower which quickly turned to heavy snow. Settling too.

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 11/12/2022 19:33

Light snowfall in SW London the last hour.

Has it? It's been all dank and foggy in north London. So your snow must have come quite suddenly?

cyrila · 11/12/2022 19:48

SE London. Snowing hard.

Thank you for the thread OP, you should be given a 'Services to Mumsnet' award!

Looks like there is major disruption at Gatwick airport. If you are flying tonight check your airline.

Lots of snow falling in central London now.

Best of luck to our London MNers affected tonight and into tomorrow.

Thank you OYBBK.

eurochick · 11/12/2022 20:28

We are reasonably close to Gatwick. It was coming down heavily a couple of hours ago but seems to have stopped now. A couple of inches has settled.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 11/12/2022 20:29

You're very welcome! I wish I'd been able to post earlier about it.

EmmaAgain22 · 11/12/2022 20:29

It's very fine thin snow here though I guess it will get worse overnight. Bummer.

HeBeaverandSheBeaver · 11/12/2022 20:29

Snow in central london is so Bridget jones ❤️

JorisBonson · 11/12/2022 20:32

Heavy here and settling on the edge of SE London, no gritters in sight. Never been so happy to have covid and have nowhere to go ☺️🤣

ElfDragon · 11/12/2022 20:32

I’m not a million miles from Gatwick, and there has been a couple of inches of snow. Slightly to the south of Gatwick is utter chaos - been checking the posts on local FB groups as dd1’s school is around there, and rural, so trying to plan for the morning…

Lozzybear · 11/12/2022 20:39

Essex, near Stansted Airport. Coming down heavy at the moment. Fingers crossed that our electricity stays on as we’ve lost power during snow storms previously!
