Part 1 was getting a bit giant and in the miraculous event that I manage to sleep in a little tomorrow, it seems a good idea to start the new thread a little early. Part 1:

Met office warnings www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/warnings-and-advice/uk-warnings

We didn't quite get to record UK temperatures, though lots of site records were achieved and Wales beat its previous record temperature by more than 2c. Tomorrow we look very likely to beat the UK record and to surpass 40c.

Tonight, obviously, do everything you can to cool your homes down, it won't be easy with lows of 24c in some places. One more day and it will feel much better for many.

I too have felt dreadful all day, almost like a hangover. It's much cooler here now (West Midlands) and I'm so grateful.

I was wondering @OhYouBadBadKitten if there are anymore extreme temperatures forecast? You seemed to know this horrific hot spell was coming first so I'll be getting all my weather news from you in future 😉

In brIef, as I'm actually off out for the day Grin

I think it unlikely that we would get anything so extreme this summer, but I won't say it definitely won't happen.

If you lurked around weather forums you might see some conseternation around one of the 30 GEFS ensemble members showing similar temperatures sometime around the 3/4/5 Aug yesterday This is an extreme outlier. Unfortunately the output is updating on the site I would normally use for this, so I can't see if it is still there. But it seems very unlikely to me that there will be a repeat. I'm keeping an eye on it though.

I have had to sleep with an air con fan on me the last two nights.

Still feeling ill this morning but not as bad as yesterday. I agree it’s like a bad hangover.

Threw up again in the night, and ended up just laying without moving in order for my head to stop spinning long enough to go back to bed.

Blasted sun. It’s noticeably cooler today. I know because I’m actually wearing a nightie for a change. I’ve been wearing just a pair of knickers for the last few days.

Still roasting hot in my room but I’ve opened windows, doors and left the fan running to try and get rid of some of that hot air

PickAChew · 21/07/2022 07:23

High of 17 here today 💙

Soubriquet · 21/07/2022 07:32

Currently 18 now but will go up to 22

Zimbolino · 21/07/2022 07:34

Regarding fans in open windows, some enterprising soul who owned our house before us installed an industrial extractor fan in the wall of the bedroom which faces south-west.

It has a reversible motor so can extract from the house or pull air from outdoors in - we use this every summer to cool down the bedroom at bedtime and it's absolutely fantastic, totally chilled by morning. (Although in the heatwave it did jack diddy squat because it was too hot overnight.)

OhYouBadBadKitten · 21/07/2022 07:58

@Soubriquet it sounds like you might be poorly poorly. Does it feel like something lime labrinthytis? (Spelling might be off) I hope you feel rapidly better soon.

Soubriquet - hope you feel better soon.

17C here (Leicester) and for the first time in ages, we have fine drizzly rain. It wasn't forecast but it feels wonderful!

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 21/07/2022 09:21

I slept so well but feel really dopey and hungover this morning!!

LadyFlumpalot · 21/07/2022 09:28

Thank god it's cooled down properly now. I needed to get on and make DS's SEN lead a year 6 leaving gift and there was no way I was firing my kiln up to 800 or going near my workshop over the weekend or on Monday/Tuesday. 🤣

Me too! It's lovely and cool outside now (in reality it's probably about 21C but that feels positively chilly compared to the last few days!) House is still stubbornly hovering around 24/25 so the windows and garden doors are wide open.

EmmaH2022 · 21/07/2022 11:00

Is it nice out? I can't go out till much later.

sadly London expected to be 28/29 over the weekend.

DorchaAndLouis · 21/07/2022 11:17

Yesterday was horrible (North Essex) even though outside temp was lower it felt hotter and exhausting. The air was so still and humid I couldn't get the house to cool down.
Thank god for today's cool breeze!

Spudlet · 21/07/2022 11:23

I’ve just had to put a cardigan on. On the other hand though we slept in our bed for the first time this week last night and it was AMAZING. DS is going back into his bed tonight too!

EmmaH2022 · 21/07/2022 11:37

A wave of humidity has arrived very suddenly.

yes I am over sensitive.

hopefully it means it's about to rain!

AchillesLastStand · 21/07/2022 12:15

It’s much better here in North Staffs. I’ve just got the towels in off the washing line because it’s started to properly rain. We have more heavy rain forecast for tomorrow morning. Thank the Lord!

DH went to get his haircut this morning and all the barber could talk about was climate change. Luckily DH teaches it at university level so he was able to have an in depth conversation with him about it. I think this extreme weather event has hopefully made some people more aware of the damage we’re doing to the planet.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 21/07/2022 12:17

I had to wear a cardi earlier!!! 😱

That's what happened to us yesterday. It felt like a storm was imminent and it stayed like that for nearly 24hrs with only the tiniest spots of rain.
I loved the two hot sunny non-humid days but high humidity makes me feel ill.

BlackeyedSusan · 21/07/2022 12:33

I shut the windows because it was cold at 26 degrees indoors. Confused I want to keep acclimatised to hot.

I'm feeling the heat and humidity at 26 indoors.

no rain.

i'm actually wondering if it's more sensible to run a dehumidifier than air con. I still own one from having lived in a damp place about 20 years ago. Hopefully it still works...!

Thank you and no. Just like a severe hang over.

I’ve had this before when I went abroad back when I was a teenager. Too much sun and heat and I ended up being sat in my hotel room for 2 days which sucked cos it was Florida

Solosunrise · 21/07/2022 15:11

We've been promised thunderstorms in the south east tomorrow. It's a humid 26 here at the moment but it still feels preferable to the 38 we had on Tuesday. I've never really been a hot weather fan but i feel I'm acclimatising. The worst part for me has been early evening. I've found the thread interesting especially about railway tracks!

colouringindoors · 21/07/2022 16:40

Cooler today thankfully (24) but sooooo humid. I am a sweaty mess after 5 hrs of gardening!

NormaLouiseBates · 21/07/2022 23:00

@OhYouBadBadKitten thank you! I tried to quote your post so you'd know what I was thanking you for lol but it wouldn't let me.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 22/07/2022 00:34

I've just had to go round shutting windows as it's properly chilly and although I enjoyed it for a while now I'm a bit shivery! THANK GOD!
