Part 1 was getting a bit giant and in the miraculous event that I manage to sleep in a little tomorrow, it seems a good idea to start the new thread a little early. Part 1:

Met office warnings www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/warnings-and-advice/uk-warnings

We didn't quite get to record UK temperatures, though lots of site records were achieved and Wales beat its previous record temperature by more than 2c. Tomorrow we look very likely to beat the UK record and to surpass 40c.

Tonight, obviously, do everything you can to cool your homes down, it won't be easy with lows of 24c in some places. One more day and it will feel much better for many.

@peridito yep that’s the one! She was put in it yesterday and has been nearly inconsolable since, but I don’t know if it’s the heat or the harness. We were warned to expect “some unsettled behaviour” as she’s 13 weeks so knows what it’s like to not have it on but still 😫 she woke up for a feed and is asleep on me again but at least it’s no longer like the surface of the sun in here - we went out in the rain which she liked (can’t take it off for a bath but a bit of warm rainwater can’t hurt)

34....

Oh you poor thing. Horrid isn't it?

BlackeyedSusan · 19/07/2022 23:58

Twat in parliament 1976ing

BlackeyedSusan · 20/07/2022 01:12

Just getting the first hint of cooling breezes here in WMids. It feels cooler even though the flat is at 32 still. Maybe it is the moving air helping or the humidity has dropped.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 20/07/2022 03:32

I've just woken up chilly with a huge strong breeze making all the blinds flap. Thought it would never happen after today's heat.

lollipoprainbow · 20/07/2022 03:56

Wide awake bloody roasting ! Thought the temperature was supposed to be dropping tonight; south east coast.

Rowgtfc72 · 20/07/2022 04:26

Up for work. My phone says its 22°. It also says it won't get higher than 25° today. East coast so reckon we've got another day of this.

South East too, not even been to sleep yet

BatshitCrazyWoman · 20/07/2022 05:07

I tried to sleep in the living room last night - 29 degrees. I shifted up to the bedroom at 1 am as I'd opened all the windows - it was cooler with a BREEZE!! Slept until my alarm at 4.45 am - much cooler breeze now, once I've showered I'll open up everything downstairs to try and clear the heat before I leave for work. It's due to be 24° here today, so 15° lower than yesterday.

I am pretty tired I have to say!

FergusSingsTheBluess · 20/07/2022 05:50

North west here just woke up and flung open all the windows. We’ve been sleeping down in the lounge and it’s a joy to be cold- 15c!! 🙌

peridito · 20/07/2022 06:28

SE London here ,what amazed me was how quickly the heat dropped .I don't look at temperatures but the sky went dark ,a few fat drops of rain ,a breeze ,and bingo not so hot .Guess it was the breeze that made it feel cooler .

Hope your little one settles @WorryMcGee .She's got you and that's the main thing .

stillherenow · 20/07/2022 06:29

Right I'm getting up, let project cool the house commence!!

Solosunrise · 20/07/2022 06:32

Thank you for the thread@OhYouBadBadKitten Being prepared really helped. It was 38/39 where I am yesterday afternoon, but cool now thankfully.

ancientgran · 20/07/2022 06:39

Posted on the other thread, didn't realise everyone had moved.

Another power cut here, 10 hr one on Friday night Saturday morning and now this. Woke up and came downstairs to make myself a cuppa and no power. I couldn't believe it so clambered over DHs junk in the garage in case a fuse had gone or something but no it is a power cut. No fan, no cup of tea and I'm too hot. I might go and sit in the garden.

Soubriquet · 20/07/2022 06:39

Great. Despite not going out and drinking plenty of fluids, I have managed to get heat stroke.

D & V, feel headachy and ill

stillherenow · 20/07/2022 06:43

I'm crap at sleeping in general, any noise or light wakes me, but thank god I seem to sleep well in heat as does dd.

However, dd felt awful yesterday and is probably going to miss the last morning of school today and just sleep . It was 38 when I picked her up and she'd had enough.

stillherenow · 20/07/2022 06:44

@Soubriquet best wishes to you I've had heatstroke in the past and it's grim but didn't last long

Piggywaspushed · 20/07/2022 06:48

Still 27 degrees in living room this morning and 30 upstairs. It's murky and breezy outside and cooler so hopefully house will eliminate some of its heat.

We took the loft hatch off yesterday. The insulation is about 2 foot thick!!

If you have heatstroke, that's a medical emergency, you may have heat exhaustion (which isn't just feeling tired because it's hot, as I heard someone say!). Stick your feet in a bucket of cold water, sponge yourself down, and rest. Hope you feel better soon 💐

BatshitCrazyWoman · 20/07/2022 06:52

I'm shutting the house up as I'm leaving for work - would really like to have aired it for longer!

Getintoyou · 20/07/2022 06:59

I can hear rain on the conservatory roof! I hope that helps the crispy lawn. I've got up to air the house. I can't believe the heat upstairs.

Tiggertum · 20/07/2022 07:00

Morning all!

Feels very humid this morning! Back to us usual U.K. heat. Made me think how the dryness although awful for fires must have helped a bit with coping yesterday. House still very hot and I have to shut it up and head for work soon. Will enjoy sleeping tonight.

also wanted to say many thanks @OhYouBadBadKitten for all your posts. I had no idea there was a weather area until someone kindly mentioned it to me in chat! I will now be lurking here regularly.

beenrumbled · 20/07/2022 07:07

I watched the rain yesterday evening pass around us in my Manchester suburb.

The forecast for today went from rain to overcast.

I got up at 5 an opened all the windows and put the fans on to try and get air moving - it's cooler outside but the house is still like an oven.

The cats are enjoying their tuna ice cubes.

Our house is the same its lovely and cool outside but inside is still 30 degrees in some rooms, windows been open all night.

We had a downpour last night but todays forecast has changed from rain this afternoon to just overcast

LaChatte · 20/07/2022 07:18

Watching the wildfires on the news last night DH and I both had the same reaction; the countryside didn't look like the UK, but like here (south of France).
