Part 1 was getting a bit giant and in the miraculous event that I manage to sleep in a little tomorrow, it seems a good idea to start the new thread a little early. Part 1:

Met office warnings www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/warnings-and-advice/uk-warnings

We didn't quite get to record UK temperatures, though lots of site records were achieved and Wales beat its previous record temperature by more than 2c. Tomorrow we look very likely to beat the UK record and to surpass 40c.

Tonight, obviously, do everything you can to cool your homes down, it won't be easy with lows of 24c in some places. One more day and it will feel much better for many.

Phew it's dropped to 32 but we have no rain forecast at all.
DS1 has asked to postpone dinner until it's cooler, so have fed DS2 and we'll try the rest of us later.

SpamhappyTootsie · 19/07/2022 19:16

There is a fire up on winter hill near the tv transmitter. You can see it for miles.

Oh no, I was waiting for those moors to go up Sad. So many idiots with bbqs, broken glass, cigarette ends.

RockandRollsuicide · 19/07/2022 19:18

I couldn't wait any longer and threw windows open!

What's a bloody day!

Sky news ; a garden 20ft away from the main fire spontaneously combusted!!

I can smell a BBQ whilst sky ticker says ...no one should be having BBQ in these conditions.

BlackeyedSusan · 19/07/2022 19:19

It is 32 in the flat. Forecast somewhere between 34 and 32 outside. Windows are open. (WMids) not done upstairs yet (duplex) flopped in bed down here.

It is cloudy. Car wasn't too bad as I got the one space under a tree.

50mg · 19/07/2022 19:21

I've just been out to water the plants and it is definitely much hotter and stickier outdoors still, even though it says 29.5 in my living room!

GloriaSmud · 19/07/2022 19:22

I've gone for it and opened my windows as well. It's 33.7C out and 33.2C in.

MrsGluck · 19/07/2022 19:28

Similar for me 50mg, much stickier. I went out to water the plants and was sweating after a few minutes.

The temperature here has gone down from 39 to 34, but the humidity has gone up from 28% to 42%.

stillherenow · 19/07/2022 19:34

I've opened mine now and there is a breeze of sorts. I went and lay in the garden while it tried to rain which was lovely. Feel hot again now

ClaudineClare · 19/07/2022 19:37

Wonder where the oh, it is all a fuss about nothing brigade are this evening?

The last fire lasted weeks from memory.

RockandRollsuicide · 19/07/2022 19:40

I got a through breeze going for a short while!
At least air is changed.

But house feels hot.

Without the tips on here to cover windows I don't know how we would have made it through.

PickAChew · 19/07/2022 19:42

Our nearest council weather camera has been down for the past few hours.

PickAChew · 19/07/2022 19:43

And no sign of our thunderstorms in the North East, but having read the impact statement, I'm glad.

RockandRollsuicide · 19/07/2022 19:47

It's trying to rain here!

Very poor show from the rain

EmmaH2022 · 19/07/2022 19:47

Cloud in my bit of London, yay.

stuntbubbles · 19/07/2022 19:49

Rain! Rain in SE23!

stillherenow · 19/07/2022 19:50

Thunder here but no more rain. I think we've had ten drops

CaveMum · 19/07/2022 19:55

Rain is passing over London now, though looks heaviest to the south of the capital.

Probably going to be another hour or so before it reaches us, if it hasn’t all evaporated by then!

BatshitCrazyWoman · 19/07/2022 19:58

South East London/Kent borders here, and had several big drops of rain land on me as I watered the garden. Cloudy, still hot, with a hot breeze though. Sleeping downstairs tonight as upstairs is like an oven 🥵

restedbutexhausted · 19/07/2022 19:59

RAINNNNN IN SE8! 😍 only a little bit but welcome relief from the heat. Also...petrichore!

MarshaBradyo · 19/07/2022 20:03

Lovely rain SE London

etulosba · 19/07/2022 20:03

Wonder where the oh, it is all a fuss about nothing brigade are this evening?

I must admit that, from my perspective and given the ludicrous media hype, it was rather underwhelming.

restedbutexhausted · 19/07/2022 20:05

@etulosba so the fires and excessive heat/records broken weren't enough?

I have to ask: at what point do you think it's enough? What temperature do we have to reach?

nannynick · 19/07/2022 20:08

I went for a walk in the rain. It stopped after 2 minutes. There was a rainbow though, and some rumbles of thunder. Surrey/Berkshire border.

rujik2 · 19/07/2022 20:09

SE3 - no rain 🌧️☔ 🤷
