Part 1 was getting a bit giant and in the miraculous event that I manage to sleep in a little tomorrow, it seems a good idea to start the new thread a little early. Part 1:
www.mumsnet.com/talk/weather/4590238-met-office-red-warning-for-extreme-heat

Met office warnings www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/warnings-and-advice/uk-warnings

We didn't quite get to record UK temperatures, though lots of site records were achieved and Wales beat its previous record temperature by more than 2c. Tomorrow we look very likely to beat the UK record and to surpass 40c.

Tonight, obviously, do everything you can to cool your homes down, it won't be easy with lows of 24c in some places. One more day and it will feel much better for many.

I was in central London today and it was more than 40 degrees. Hot and sunny but very bearable. It wasn't unpleasant at all.

I managed to get on one of the few trains home that wasn't cancelled and it was unbearably hot. Now sitting in my suburban garden in London and it's felt very hot and humid for about an hour. I'm now sitting in the rain drinking a glass of wine!

I'm guessing you're a hot weather person?

MeridianGrey · 19/07/2022 20:24

I am in Cheshire and know of three local fires not on that map although I guess only one of them is ‘wild’.

velvetvixen · 19/07/2022 20:25

Oh those fires! all that in just TWO days. Let's hope we don't get a longer spell in these temps.

RuralRabbit · 19/07/2022 20:26

We had the tiniest specks of rain for about 5 minutes max 😰 Warwickshire

We look less likely to get the very higher temperatures, but it look set to stay hot (around 30 in places) with low rainfall for quite some time

Hoping that tomorrows thunderstorms materialise, as aside from that there isn't much rain in the forecasts for the next 7-10 days.

WorryMcGee · 19/07/2022 20:34

It’s raining and there’s a breeze!!! And my poor newly pavlik harnessed baby is finally asleep in her cot and NOT on me, and I have a glass of fizz and I’m not sweating and my husband bought me a beautiful necklace and it finally feels like my birthday 😂 yippeeee

velvetvixen · 19/07/2022 20:35

Very overcast now here in Nott'm, forecasts seem varied regarding us getting some rain. Grrrrr.

etulosba · 19/07/2022 20:36

@restedbutexhausted You may have missed the “from a personal perspective” caveat in my post.

Yes, it was warmer than usual, but for just two days. I’ve been warmer and for lot longer, so the temperature didn’t result in any terror or horror for me. It didn’t stop me doing what I wanted to do, inside or outside.

We have wildfires somewhere practically every year, despite lower temperatures.

velvetvixen · 19/07/2022 20:38

Woohoo! enjoy, WorryMcGee 😃

daffodilandtulip · 19/07/2022 20:40

Midlands. We had a hint of black clouds now it's bright again. It's gone very humid and oppressive now, so even though the temp has gone down, I'm more uncomfortable sitting here now than I was working at 3pm.

RagzRebooted · 19/07/2022 20:46

Pleasant here in E. Sussex, few drops of rain on and off over the last 30 minutes.
I dragged everyone out to the woods for a picnic as soon as I got home. It was 35°C when we left and 25°C when we got back 90 minutes later! Breeze appeared as we arrived there and it was bliss after working in hot clinic rooms this afternoon (damn idiot colleagues opened all the windows before I got there this afternoon).
House is cooling down (opened windows before we left for the woods) and I'm in the garden with wine.

I know of a local fire not on there too. I've not looked at this site before. It looks to be a system primarily for use in the States and Canada. They mention detection within 3 hours of a fire being detected by low earth orbit satellites. I'm not sure how often they pass over us.
There's some interesting info storymaps.arcgis.com/stories/9c011e1e569845c092eba5c377259202 that I'll try and digest another time.

EmmaH2022 I'm not a hot weather person at all. I'm Celtic and very fair and burn at the first sight of sun. But I work outdoors and had no choice so I decided to embrace it and wear sunscreen and loose clothes and ignore headlines saying thousands would die. And it worked. It was ok.

MeridianGrey · 19/07/2022 20:51

@etulosba do you not find the fact that we now have annual wild fires worrying?

Kittybelle123 · 19/07/2022 20:55

West London, dark clouds (lights on), tipping it down and blessed relief

LadyFlumpalot · 19/07/2022 20:58

South Somerset here and there is a COLD BREEZE. All doors and windows wide and it's bordering on chilly in here. It's lovely.

Sending wishes for it to speed it's way North and East for the rest of you.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 19/07/2022 21:01

Herefordshire and Leicestershire Firebrigades have also now declared major incidents due to the number of fires. This follows the London Firebrigade doing so earlier.

TokyoSushi · 19/07/2022 21:06

It is cooling down in Cheshire!!!! Thank goodness!!

mrshoho · 19/07/2022 21:08

Some big fires this way today. The air was heavy and smoke filled. just had a lovely down pour and some breezy winds to cool down. All of us had a jump about in the garden declaring we will never moan about the rain again. NW London.

allsogreen · 19/07/2022 21:09

South Yorkshire fire brigade have also declared a major incident.

BlackeyedSusan · 19/07/2022 21:13

Omg. It's still 32 in the flat. No wonder I feel hot. Very humid here too. Clouds but no rain. The grass is parched. You can see why it would burn. Some dipstick was flicking ash out of the window earlier.

What are your indoor temps like?
