I am a bit concerned about this one. Widespread gusts to 60mph, but reaching 80mph in parts of the NE. Winds from a NW direction will bring down more trees than you would expect for this level of gusts as it is an unusual direction.

I was on a plane in Doreen a couple of years ago 🤮, got into Heathrow and then had to get on another flight north that took three attempts to land. Poor people.

PussyCatEatingPigsInBlankets · 26/11/2021 22:40

The pilot in the Amsterdam - Liverpool flight has been writing his name in the sky and is having another bash at Manchester...

DementedPanda · 26/11/2021 22:42

Lots of trees and fences down, people reporting falling tiles and the Christmas lights on lampposts are hanging off.

PussyCatEatingPigsInBlankets · 26/11/2021 22:44

I suspect Manchester Airport might be shut now...

ReginaaPhalange · 26/11/2021 22:46

Picking up again here in central Scotland. Want to go to bed but it's so loud and I'm quite scared.

OnlyTheTitosaurusOfTheIceberg · 26/11/2021 22:47

Lights have started to flicker here 😬

We have candles, matches, torches, batteries and fully charged our devices earlier, so hopefully will be okay if the power does go off so long as it’s not down for too long (thinking of the two freezers).

He's landed it at East Midlands instead.

So anyone flying into Manchester or Liverpool - looks like you're going to land at East Mids instead.

Looking at Flightradar I’m not sure what’s going on at Manchester ATM .. looking at the reports the wind is “only” 25 knots across which would count as interesting but probably within the limits for a lot of aircraft as long as the runway is very wet.

Unlike some parts of the world (e.g.Aus) airports in the Uk because it is windy or foggy ( snow OTOH is a different matter)…if the weather is within crew/airframe limits you are entitled to make an approach.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 26/11/2021 23:00

Lights flickering here in n Wales, phone charged ditto kindle. Torches and candles organised

notimagain · 26/11/2021 23:05

….having typed that looks like Ryanair from Budapest just tried at MAN and went around …I’m wondering if on top of the 25 knots across being reported via the Met office (on line Met actual) there are stronger gusts which ATC are reporting to the crews which are putting the wind out of limits…and/or the crews reckon it simply looks too horrible out of the window….

notimagain · 26/11/2021 23:08

….it’s a fast game …the Reported Met now for MAN has just changed…wind out of the north west 27 knots gusting 40 knots in light rain….that’ll produce a crosswind that will be well outside most if not all limits and is why flights are holding/diverting/going around.

supremelybaffled · 26/11/2021 23:11

Flightradar is interesting. Several flights supposed to be landing at Manchester, and just circling round and round, but now look like they are heading elsewhere.

Lots of flights coming into Luton, looks like they were diverted there even before they took off from wherever.

FanGirlX · 26/11/2021 23:13

In Manchester here and only yellow. It's blowing a Gale though. Good luck to those in the red zone.

I thought I had stumbled onto the baby names forum.

Storm Arwen - I quite like that for a feisty girl DD.

supremelybaffled · 26/11/2021 23:16

3 flights due to land at Liverpool or Manchester now heading due south, possibly to Birmingham.

headinthecloudsnow · 26/11/2021 23:17

West Lancs here- it's really picked up again in the last half an hour or so.

Auntieobem · 26/11/2021 23:18

We lost power for a while around 10.30, lit candles, played uno and I was a bit disappointed when lights came back on. Still blowing a gale out there, couple of trees down, keep safe everyone. ( I love listening to storms when safe inside)

MythicalBiologicalFennel · 26/11/2021 23:20

North Wales coast here. We get bad wind and storms often enough but I am surprised at how bad it is out there, especially when it's only a yellow warning... the house is creaking and I can't sleep because of the wind noise despite double glazing and thick curtains. It reminds me of the red warning we had years ago.

supremelybaffled · 26/11/2021 23:21

Looks like Luton and Stansted airports are going to be busy tonight.

Some off to Luton but interesting Lufthansa just had a go at landing at Manchester from the other end, so to speak, on one of the northeasterly heading runways and got in..so either the wind has reduced a bit and veered to favour that approach direction or they got lucky with a lack of gusts.
RampantIvy · 26/11/2021 23:25

I have just had a look at flight radar and it looks like planes are looking for somewhere else to land instead of Manchester.

Summersdreaming · 26/11/2021 23:26

I'm watching the one that should have landed at Newcastle 10 minutes ago.. eek

That flight is flying south east and is nearly over Milton Keynes now, probably going to Stansted, loads stacking up. Dublin - Liverpool flight landing at Stansted now.
