I am a bit concerned about this one. Widespread gusts to 60mph, but reaching 80mph in parts of the NE. Winds from a NW direction will bring down more trees than you would expect for this level of gusts as it is an unusual direction.

I think we straddle amber and yellow. The Met Office map is shite on my phone.

Whatever colour we are, it's bloody wild out there.

Almostmenopausal · 26/11/2021 21:58

Apologies if this has already been shared Grin

Can't even get on the northern power grid site to see the power cuts at the moment. We seem to have a lull at the moment- crossing our fingers it continues.

PussyCatEatingPigsInBlankets · 26/11/2021 22:02

WTAF is the BBC reporter doing? Is she deliberately trying to get blown away/hit by debris?🤯

liveforsummer · 26/11/2021 22:03

Well in eastern Scotland these winds are something we are familiar with however the cold is a shock after a very mild summer and autumn as my duvet coat I finally managed to find in stock somewhere won't be delivered til Monday 😭

Snookie00 · 26/11/2021 22:03

We’re on the west coast of Scotland. Winds here are ferocious. Not helped by being on top of a hill but we’re not even in the amber zone. Hope everyone further east is ok.

ArrrMeHearties · 26/11/2021 22:04

Where I am in central Scotland it's blowing an utter hoolie and the tiles on the roof don't sound safe

DementedPanda · 26/11/2021 22:10

It's getting worse here 😫

Starcaller · 26/11/2021 22:11

Yes I've lived in Aberdeenshire for 15 years and I've never known it this bad in terms of damage. I've just been sent pics from my house in Aberdeen and there are massive trees down in the street that have been there since the estate was built in the 70s. Nuts!

Luckily despite also living in the red zone about 40 miles south, we seem to be relatively unscathed so far, although power is down in some of the surrounding villages.

twilightermummy · 26/11/2021 22:11

I’m gutted that Whitby Christmas market has been cancelled. Totally get it though as I was unsure about driving there with the weather forecast anyway and I’d imagine many others would have felt the same. Massive shame though.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 26/11/2021 22:12

Red warning is over at 2am, but high winds will continue for several hours afterwards, gradually easing into tomorrow.

Yeah, think that brief lull earlier was the eye of the storm. Wet and wild again out there now.
Loudestcat14 · 26/11/2021 22:16

Wishing everyone in the eye of the storm a safe night. We're in London and it's noticeably much windier here tonight, so god knows how it must be in the red zone. Hope it passes quickly!

PussyCatEatingPigsInBlankets · 26/11/2021 22:21

Something is going on at Liverpool Airport, possibly also Leeds?

Manchester is accepting diverted flights.

Porfre · 26/11/2021 22:24

In the NW only a yellow warning here.
But very windy and raining.
Its battering the windows.

Cant imagine how it is in the red warning regions

Waitwhat23 · 26/11/2021 22:24

Lights keep flickering here. Pretty sure we're going to lose power at some point. Noise outside is awful - bit too nervous to look!

AutumnAnn · 26/11/2021 22:24

We're further down the country than the red warning but still got some very strong winds and heavy rain, secured everything outside and made preparations indoors earlier in the day, moved my childrens beds away from windows, found every candle and torch i own and double checked everything. I admit i do panic a bit in storms and probably overreact, i recently hid under the stairs with my newborn and toddler during a lightning storm.

Lorna Gordon? Bloody stupid standing just there!
BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 26/11/2021 22:28

Newcastle here - its bitingly painfully cold even just walking to the car. And we are well used to it.

A friend is on an overnight ferry to Amsterdam?!?!

RobinPenguins · 26/11/2021 22:30

Tyne & Wear Metro has ended service with immediate effect. Must be expecting things to get worse tonight!

Palosverdesblue · 26/11/2021 22:33

Big drifts forming on the high roads here, photo from local page. I’m off to bed - stay safe everyone

Fluffy yep. Madness.

Loads of Ryanair and Easyjet flights having to have a practice run before landing Shock those poor passengers 🤢

BoredZelda · 26/11/2021 22:34

Spare a thought for the folk out tonight fixing the power lines!

Welshiefluff · 26/11/2021 22:36

those poor passengers

I doubt it is a bundle of laughs for the pilots either.

I really can't think of much worse than being on a plane trying to land in this! I'm not a happy bunny with take off and landing at the best of times.
