Grin

Might as well get going on this thread, though it is rather a tease at the moment.

The ECMWF model is hinting at the possibility of some much colder weather next week, perhaps bringing some snow to Scottish hills. BUT the met office are still going for quite a wild and wet affair instead.
The ECMWF shows quite an interesting scenario really.

I'm in Aberdeenshire but there was one for Hull as well.

FrankiesKnuckle · 06/02/2021 21:12

Child has gone to bed with fingers and toes crossed for tomorrow!

I'd hazard a guess that we'll wake up to rain, we seem to have a snow shield in W.Sussex too....

LunaHeather · 06/02/2021 21:12

@OhYouBadBadKitten

I don't know yet Luna. I think there is potential into the Reading area, but if I'm honest, that's more of a guess at the moment.
Thank you

I had to google what a streamer was but it sounds awful!

Etymology23 · 06/02/2021 21:14

Pfft this is making me really twitchy. We've got a pilot of a super high throughput drive through vaccination model tomorrow, the equivalent of 5 medium vaccination centres. Have been hoping all week the snow doesn't come and the weather forecast keeps pushing it later and later here but I could really do without it at all. I live in a mainly very rural bit of the East and this pilot will really improve our ability to reach remote communities if it works. Crossed fingers that this holds off til Monday I think please!

cheeseybeans19 · 06/02/2021 21:17

Does the East Midlands and Leicestershire look likely to be getting snow @OhYouBadBadKitten @GloriaSmud ? Currently raining!

LunaHeather · 06/02/2021 21:20

Etymology yes, I'm twitchy too.

I always sleep really badly but with all the snow forecast, it will be worse!

OublietteBravo · 06/02/2021 21:21

I have two children with everything crossed for snow tomorrow in Bedford. It looks like we might be just a little bit too far north and west (normally we’re just a little bit too far south) to get anything more than a dusting.

I'm a a couple of glasses of wine in (thankfully not on duty tomorrow) which I'm hoping will help. Normally I love snow, but not right now, with everything as stretched tight as it already is!
OhYouBadBadKitten · 06/02/2021 21:28

ah, damn Etymology.

Cheesey, I think Monday is looking quite likely for your area.

Hawkmoth No need to share with Hull thanks! Fields round here already flooded and flood alerts in place.

cheeseybeans19 · 06/02/2021 21:50

Fingers crossed @OhYouBadBadKitten, would cheer my son up, he is missing school and his friends a lot 🙏🏻

Hyperfish101 · 06/02/2021 22:21

Any chance of anything in NW England?

Varzizz · 06/02/2021 22:36

@OhYouBadBadKitten I am sorry to ask as if you are my personal weather forecaster, but we are due to drive from the South Coast to Bury St Edmunds on Monday for a funeral. It looks like we might be going through areas most affected.
Any suggestions/advice/thoughts?

Thank you so much Flowers

pinkcattydude · 06/02/2021 22:58

Berkshire has changed to a Single snowflake -gutted

JengaJanga · 06/02/2021 22:59

Nothing in Suffolk yet!!

Furries · 06/02/2021 23:07

North Essex here, about 5 miles from 5he coast. We’re in the “amber warning” area that was on the bbc weather site. Phone app earlier showed 109% chance of snow from 11pm, but it’s now changed to 70% from 3am. Bit gutted as was hoping to be up to see the first flakes coming down.

Overall, though, I’m not looking forward to it. I like looking out at it for around 30 minutes and then I just want it gone!

Furries · 06/02/2021 23:08

100% !

OhYouBadBadKitten · 06/02/2021 23:11

Varzizz I'm so sorry to hear that. In usual times I'd suggest travelling up tomorrow afternoon as long as you don't need to be back Monday evening. Suffolk looks to be one of the hardest hit places on Monday.

@Furries

100% !
This made me lol so hard

I'd literally have a blue fit if I thought it was 109%!

LunaHeather · 06/02/2021 23:33

One forecast had 3 snowflakes for 10pm

Happily no sign

It also thinks it will feel like -8 by 2am

I am normally heading bedward at that time so I'll see if that's true but so far, it's looking wrong....so fingers crossed it continues to be wrong.

Furries · 06/02/2021 23:37

@LunaHeather 🤣. I make that mistake so blooming often on my iPad, total fat finger syndrome.

The wind is whipping up here, can hear it whistling through the many tiny gaps in the cottage.

Yikes, that was my thought too about Suffolk being badly hit. We need to travel on Monday because the funeral is on Tuesday morning. While in theory we could travel tomorrow and be away two nights, staying in a travelodge with two small children and nothing to do as nowhere is open, sounds more of a challenge than I can face right now.

I guess we have to hope that given the snow is starting overnight tonight, by Monday lunchtime we'll know how bad it has got and the gritters will be in full flow Hmm

Can you explain what the streamer thing is about - is it likely to impact our journey do you think?

Thanks for your condolences btw. The snow really is the last thing we need right now Sad. Normally I would welcome the novelty.

blobbyface · 07/02/2021 08:10

Anyone have any snow?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 07/02/2021 08:19

I can see that wouldn't work Varzizz.

It depends on where you are starting from on the south coast as to whether any potential streamers will affect you. You can pm if you like.

I think, but could well be wrong, that the wind is too northerly for a classic Thames streamer set up. I'm wondering if one will set up through the Wash.

It's interesting to note that the precipitation last night didn't really come as far west as forecast.

I went to bed expecting heavy snow from 3am (going from the met office site) but woken up to nothing but wet :( there's some fine snow blowing around now, but nothing's sticking. South Essex.
