Might as well get going on this thread, though it is rather a tease at the moment.

The ECMWF model is hinting at the possibility of some much colder weather next week, perhaps bringing some snow to Scottish hills. BUT the met office are still going for quite a wild and wet affair instead.
The ECMWF shows quite an interesting scenario really.

The weather chap I follow on Facebook - AJ The Weatherman - (recommended by someone on here) is saying there may be some serious quantities of snow landing even here in the south from the weekend onwards. Please let him be right...*

  • Though obviously I want everyone to still be able to access their Covid vaccinations etc.
megletthesecond · 03/02/2021 20:19

off we had enough snow in Hampshire last week to go sledging for the morning but it didn't disrupt the roads. I'd be happy with that again. I didn't let the dc's sledge the big slopes either in case they injured themselves and we had to go to A&E Blush (they're teens so they were fine with it).

TokyoSushi · 03/02/2021 20:42

Sounds potentially exciting!! Grin

BlackeyedSusan · 03/02/2021 20:43

Ds was self isolating for the last snow so hopefully he will get some this time.

Frenchdressing · 03/02/2021 22:20

Looking at the models it seems Manc snow shield will be out again,

GloriaSmud · 04/02/2021 06:32

Some thoughts from the metoffice press office.

Delatron · 04/02/2021 08:25

We’ve had snow once here in Bucks for a day a few weeks ago. Normally love snow. It’s been forecast quite a few times and not happened. Though I should know better than believe the 100 % snow forecast on my phone app.

Not sure we’ll get any this time. I follow AJ on Facebook too and he seems certain. He’s got it wrong a few times this winter with snow which is unlike him! Though I know how hard it is to forecast snow. We’re low by the river here too so often miss it. We’ll see!

Quite like some Spring like weather now to be honest. Snow in Dec is fun!

Frouby · 04/02/2021 09:23

@GloriaSmud

It's looks like snow is a-coming, starting with disruptive snow for Scotland Friday and Saturday but after that, there's the chance of ice/snow showers feeding in from the East.

Frouby - He might be OK for his blood tests but it might be a 'one to watch' for getting to Manchester, especially if he has to go through areas like the Peak District.

Some thoughts from Netweather here.

Thank you. He goes over Woodhead so will find him some jobs to do Tuesday I think. I the past he would have tried to get and either turned around and come home or ended up taking hours to get home. We have a 4 x 4 which he takes when the weather is bad so he doesn't get stuck usually, but other cars obviously do. Took him 3 hours to get 6 miles the other week.

But he said yesterday 'have a look at those forecasters you follow, they are usually more accurate, if they say snow, I'm not going'.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 04/02/2021 13:25

We have some severe cold coming along. Don't look too far ahead in the models at present - snow is likely to come at short notice. The SW is protected to some extent - but overall it is a 'be prepared' situation. Disruptive snow is likely not only across Scotland and northern areas, but next week perhaps into southern counties too.

You may want to ensure you have adequate hot chocolate supplies. Wink

I've been perusing Netweatherand I'm hoping that low next week hits us in the Mendips.

We had a lovely day of snowfall last Sunday ( which was surprising as only a little was forecast ) will get prepared as it looks (literally) Baltic next week 😍⛄️❄️🥶

OhYouBadBadKitten · 04/02/2021 14:34

Can we keep snow away from my town if its ok? It would be hugely helpful if they can zip through the vaccination list to my dh.

I've defected away from AJ to The Chiltern Weather Alerts and they are saying we could potentially see quite a bit here in the Chilterns and are likening it to the beast from the east. Just glad we never put the guinea pigs back out into the garden 😀

chubbybear1 · 04/02/2021 19:44

I've had snow on the ground for over a month now in the southern uplands, currently have 2 feet up to 4/5 where it's drifted! Ready for some sun and warmth now please!

Ginfordinner · 04/02/2021 23:31

I read that the Scottish ski resorts have had the most snow they have had for years, and they are all closed. Sad

Delatron · 05/02/2021 08:41

@tapdancingmum he’s been off the mark a bit recently AJ hasn’t he? Think he’s said lots of snow a few times this winter and we’ve only had one day.
I’ll check out The Chiltern one.

Such a shame for Scotland. Would have helped the tourist industry loads.

Yogabear1 · 05/02/2021 08:47

Anything looking like snow for the north east? I checked bbc but it keeps changing.

cheeseybeans19 · 05/02/2021 10:29

So my apps keep changing back and forth between rain and snow, and also changing from snow starting on Saturday then not starting until next week 😩 the papers and other weather reports keep mentioning another beast from the east, which I would love ⛄️ @GloriaSmud and @OhYouBadBadKitten what’s your current opinion, are we looking at a fair amount of snow over the next few days do you think? Also I know you’re Leicestershire same as me Gloria, are we going to get much do you think? 🤞🏻❄️

Ginfordinner · 05/02/2021 11:17

Poor DD is at university in the north east and really jealous of all the snow we have had here in Yorkshire.

GloriaSmud · 05/02/2021 12:26

chubbybear1 Looks like you're going to get even more snow this weekend - no sign of sun/warmth for a while yet.

Yogabear1 Saturday night into Sunday looks like there could be heavy bursts/light snow showers so you should get a covering. That chance also goes into next week as well.

cheeseybeans19 Same for us really - Saturday night into Sunday we could end up with a covering and it carries on into next week.

Updated metoffice weather warnings.

veryveryfine · 05/02/2021 12:40

We're also in the Chilterns but on high ground. We have only one option to get in or out, very steep hill! We also follow Chiltern Weather Alert & they are very up to date & accurate.

Delatron · 05/02/2021 12:42

It’s looking potentially epic then? Snow for days with no thawing? For some areas anyway.

Not good for vaccinations though so I’m hoping people can still get to appointments.

Hm2020 · 05/02/2021 13:06

Me and my sister are going to pick up her new kittens on Tuesday and it says the high will be -1 and snow great a bit worrying and this is London.

Yogabear1 · 05/02/2021 20:36

Thank you

LunaHeather · 06/02/2021 00:24

Quite worried about this
Some forecasts look like the snow might not melt all week and even get topped up. Bloody awful.

WreckTangled · 06/02/2021 08:20

I'm not sure how much we will get. We're being given a 60% chance on some and met office saying 90% but it changes so often. I agree with Luna that if it does come it's looking likely to stay for a while and when you live a few miles from the main road with only steep narrow lanes to get you there it's quite concerning. I won't be able to get to work which will be a problem, I do love snow but a couple of cm isn't worth all the disruption. Give me 10" Grin
