Grin

Might as well get going on this thread, though it is rather a tease at the moment.

The ECMWF model is hinting at the possibility of some much colder weather next week, perhaps bringing some snow to Scottish hills. BUT the met office are still going for quite a wild and wet affair instead.
The ECMWF shows quite an interesting scenario really.

TBH, it is looking less likely here than it had - we're colder than normal but above freezing and no significant signs that we'll get snow in my area. Although there is some on the mountains nearby - but not where we are near the sea. (And yes, we have had relatively large amounts on occasions in the past).

Today, it's 4 degrees C, with significant wind chill (20 knots, gusting 30+ knots, and from NE). We keep having heavy showers which have a lot of hail in them (and large hail - about 5mm size), but also a lot of rain. So the ground is wet. But it is getting clear and bright again between those (but I do need my desk lamp when there is a shower going on!).

Titsywoo · 06/01/2021 08:54

It's actually snowed here in East Surrey. Only a bit and looks like rain is going to wash it away now.

MoodyMarshall · 06/01/2021 12:44

Both of my weather apps are showing snow for Friday - Oxfordshire. We've had none so far, usually we're quite prone to a spot of snow. Can anyone confirm? ❄️

FourTeaFallOut · 06/01/2021 14:24

My weather app is forecasting up to 76mm of snow tomorrow. I don't think I've ever seen it predict an amount of snowfall. It's freezing here, it's just got to a balmy 2c with the sun out.

nannynick · 06/01/2021 22:18

Snow on Friday in many areas looks possible on the NCEP GFS chart.
www.metcheck.com/WEATHER/gfscharts.asp

Will it come, won't it... will it be Thursday night, or early Friday, or maybe delayed until Saturday... are there other models that are showing consistency as to when and where snow is likely?

AcornAutumn · 06/01/2021 22:23

My forecasts are saying maybe sleety showers for Friday in London and fingers crossed, the following week shows temps going up.

GloriaSmud · 07/01/2021 06:56

-3.3C here (Leicester) at the moment.
Certainly possible some places could wake up to a covering of snow tomorrow morning.

Justmuddlingalong · 07/01/2021 09:46

There was snow lying this morning here in Fife, but the Scottish drizzle's currently melting it. 😭

BiddyPop · 07/01/2021 10:11

From not even seeming to have a frost layer when I woke up this morning, we got a nice icing sugar dusting of snow over breakfast which is currently sitting. No wind and the few clouds in the sky are high, but there is actual snow!!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 07/01/2021 11:47

I think while snow is certainly possible for many, the bigger hazard across low levels is ice. Please take care.

flurries so far... but as you say ice is a the issue.

LemonSquirtInTheEyeOfLife · 07/01/2021 15:36

Light snow here today, been out for a walk & it's treacherous underfoot. Like a bumpy ice rink. Loads of ice left from the last snowfall.

OublietteBravo · 07/01/2021 19:39

We have a 50% chance of snow tomorrow. It’s already icy - I’m not sure it got above freezing today.

FourTeaFallOut · 07/01/2021 19:40

In the end we had no snow and it's mostly rain tomorrow with a chance of snow amongst it all. Ah well, probably for the best.

beenrumbled · 07/01/2021 19:46

Flurry at 7am and another at 12. Nothing since.

mogloveseggs · 07/01/2021 20:32

Supposed to start at midnight and go right through tomorrow till teatime here.

Foobydoo · 07/01/2021 21:49

They have cancelled trains in anticipation on the Wirral where dh works, they rarely get snow there.
We are Greater Manchester and it's forcast overnight for usGlitterball

pinkcattydude · 07/01/2021 23:04

And as usual I’m in the small bit with big even a flake

beenrumbled · 08/01/2021 07:57

Nothing in my neck of the woods in Manchester , though the sky looks promising.

OublietteBravo · 08/01/2021 08:03

Just freezing fog here again. No snow showing up in the forecast.

InMySpareTime · 08/01/2021 09:54

A bit of overnight snow this end of Manchester, now mostly melted by the rain.

BiddyPop · 08/01/2021 09:55

We had another flurry over breakfast again today, slightly heavier than yesterdays so there are patches of white on the green outside, but still only Victoria Sponge sugar dusting levels.

But the wind has shifted overnight, from NW to NE, so there is a greater chance of the snow forming in the shadow of the Isle of Mann as it comes over the Irish Sea - which had been our greatest local influence in the 2009/2010 events. And as I have no Cubs tomorrow for other reasons, I could get nicely cosy by the fire with a large bottle of wine tonight and just enjoy it...! Xmas Grin If it happens....

ivegotthisyeah · 08/01/2021 13:17

FourTeaFallOut · 08/01/2021 15:02

Woohoo, some meteorological tipping point has been passed and we have switched from sleet and puddles to fat flakes which are laying.
