Snow watch

Might as well get going on this thread, though it is rather a tease at the moment.

The ECMWF model is hinting at the possibility of some much colder weather next week, perhaps bringing some snow to Scottish hills. BUT the met office are still going for quite a wild and wet affair instead.
The ECMWF shows quite an interesting scenario really.

We've had a heavy snow shower about an hour ago and I'm now snowed in. I live on high ground, so I would be able to get down to the shops but wouldn't be able to get the car back up to get home. I'm hoping it thaws out and I can get out in a couple of hours. There was no snow predicted for where I live today.

We were supposed to be getting heavy snow showers today, which had been in the forecast for the last couple of days. Checked this morning and it’s completely changed, forecast to be sunny most of the day!! Quite disappointing , thought we might be able to get the sledge out.

we were forecast a bright sunny day - no sign of it. Wouldn't be surprised if it does actually snow.

I did get a quick shop in yesterday luckily.

I’ve given up of any hope of snow in the South. Though we were promised a nice sunny day but it’s freezing and foggy which is a bit miserable.

This side of Manchester got a slight dusting this morning and nothing else.

The snow started at midnight here while we were watching the fireworks 😊

Tiny bit here. I'm in an area of Lancashire that doesn't get snow
If we have it, 10 miles away will be 6ft under snowdrifts

It was impassable that year, and eerie driving a few days later with these massive drifts up the side of your car

Happy New Year! We had a dozen or so medium size fluffy looking snow flakes and a small shower of drizzle sized snowflakes late morning in south London today and got very excited.

Our local rag is starting to mention a new Beast from the East...

I think we are looking towards next Friday/Saturday for the next real chance of proper snow.

Our local, amateur, usually very reliable weather man is keeping his eye on a possible sudden stratospheric warming. Any clarification and weather for dummies type explanation, @OhYouBadBadKitten, @GloriaSmud?
