Grin

Might as well get going on this thread, though it is rather a tease at the moment.

The ECMWF model is hinting at the possibility of some much colder weather next week, perhaps bringing some snow to Scottish hills. BUT the met office are still going for quite a wild and wet affair instead.
The ECMWF shows quite an interesting scenario really.

I wasn't so well on Christmas day so didn't report we had a White Christmas (for a short while) in the peaks.

This morning - wet snow/ sleet has been falling but not settling. I will get out later the check the hill tops.

GloriaSmud · 27/12/2020 10:39

Updated weather warnings for today and tomorrow.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 27/12/2020 12:00

Sorry to here you weren't well Unescorted.

That snow warning for tomorrow does match the charts rather nicely :) Not everywhere will see snow of course - some will just get rain and some nothing at all.

Snowing here in Aberdeenshire. Nice coating very quickly.

OffTheShelfElf · 27/12/2020 20:06

Watching this thread with fingers crossed. BBC says we'll have lots of snow tomorrow, Met Office predicts none. Am I the only person here who app-shops until they find a forecast they like?! I'm desperate for snow...

OhYouBadBadKitten · 27/12/2020 20:25

Argh, 'hear' not 'here'

Im not sure why, but I've often found that the metoffice website graphics always underplay snow. Important to always read the text near the bottom.

Tonights snowfall is penetrative further east in Scotland than I think was shown on the models. It means that potentially wider parts of England may be hit by snow overnight into tomorrow.

How far south do you think @OhYouBadBadKitten ?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 27/12/2020 20:49

Possibly towards Reading way?
I see there is snow in North Yorkshire now, which is definitely not west. Grin

Aw shame, I'm in Kent!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 27/12/2020 21:08

One of the models has just put some over night snow across the South Downs.

Snowing since about 5pm here - southern Yorkshire Dales

moglovesmincepies · 27/12/2020 21:12

Snow here in east lancashire

OhYouBadBadKitten · 27/12/2020 21:31

This system is definitely misbehaving!

There is a lot of disparity between the met office predictions and several models tonight. They are struggling to decide what to do with some mesoscale features. It's often a case of 'nowcast' with snow and tonight, tomorrow is a classic example.

We have loads in Staffordshire! I cannot wait to go sledging!

GloriaSmud · 28/12/2020 05:56

Nothing here in Leicester but there's a band of precipitation showing up here, moving west to east that hopefully will produce something in the next hour or two (if it stays cold enough.)

GloriaSmud · 28/12/2020 06:03

Some snow reports coming in here.

Thatstoomuch · 28/12/2020 06:13

poppingpotatoes · 28/12/2020 06:16
Somebody has reported snow in my town, they are either blind, daft or lying ! Hmm
HeronLanyon · 28/12/2020 06:19

I happened to hear the shipping forecast yesterday morning. For the first time ever I heard the announcer with emotion in her voice as she reported ‘storm force 11’ and the word ‘violent’ I think I’ve not heard that word before before. Around Selsey Bill. So unusual I rewound and listened again. She was shocked by what she was reading.

Friends out west reported snow on Dartmoor and sleet further west yesterday.

London is freezing !
