i'm just plonking this here, will be back later to fill in the details, but the Met Office have just named Storm Dennis for Sunday the 15th Feb.

In the mean time, here have a load of weather warnings including an amber for snow.

We just had very heavy rain at around 4ish. I'm feeling sleep deprived!

At the moment the highest rainfall totals for the weekend look to be in the south on Sunday morning when GFS suggests we go from wet to extremely wet.

Wind wise very very windy including overnight on Saturday, but perhaps particularly nasty in the SE on Sunday afternoon.

Quietest time of the two days - Saturday morning.

I'd better take Stugeron before my flight to Edinburgh on Saturday afternoon then.🤮

Just had an Amber rain warning for Southern England (Hampshire, Surrey, Sussex, parts of Kent) from Met Office 00:15 Sun-18:00 Sun.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 13/02/2020 11:23

That warning area ties in pretty perfectly with the GFS model.

I'm starting to get annoyed with Met Eireann's forecasts not showing the warnings until very late, and only when they are to be in force - whereas Met UK shows them a few days in advance. OK, they may change, so as with all forecasts, keep an eye on them - but at least you have a fair idea what to expect with some prep time.

A combination of no milk in the house for tonight, having cleaned out the fridge last night, expectations of bad weather (and maybe some relaxing cooking/baking opportunities!), and a 15% off online grocery shopping voucher, means I have now set up a FULL trolley to arrive tonight (DH will be miffed, but I did include some beer for him Grin) and stocked up on a few things again also.

Thanks!

Amber warning for rain for 24 hours for us; 3pm Saturday to 3pm Sunday.

DD is with her dad so looks like I’ll be volunteering again to try and limit the damage Sad

I've just driven 50 miles not 10 to avoid flood water!

Frouby · 13/02/2020 16:05

Getting a bit fed up now with wet and wild weather. Don't mind it being cold in winter, don't mind some rain but hate wind.

At least it's too warm to snow properly.

GinnyStrupac · 13/02/2020 16:17

Thanks Kitten and all. A bit concerned about a long journey with a car full on Saturday so this thread is a help.

85notout · 13/02/2020 16:17

I am sick of the rain, every single road I went down this morning had floods - one has a sign up, it's over 7 feet deep.

GinnyStrupac · 13/02/2020 16:26

The tank is full, the antifreeze is at full strength, there's sweeties and chocolate in the glove box and the winter tyres are now on . Dyb dyb, dob dob.

I'm not feeling very confident about the Exeter Paddington trains this weekend....even the ones not stuck on the other side of dawlish!

FiveGoMadInDorset · 13/02/2020 20:36

We had hail at about 3.30 this morning, I W thought the window was going to break.

We are flying from Gatwick Monday afternoon, but meant to be driving to Kent on Sunday to see friends, might swerve that one

Fefifofaff · 14/02/2020 07:38

DH flying back on Saturday and we fly out on Sunday, LHR and Gatwick. Any thoughts on air travel? 🙈🤬

OhYouBadBadKitten · 14/02/2020 08:20

I think that air travel will be less disrupted than last weekend, with peak gusts a little lower.

Gusts still 50-60mph inland, perhaps 70mph along coastal areas. Trees will come down again. However, the main story is definitely the flooding, with totals of around 80mm rain in the amber area, and perhaps 50mm more widespread. I think more amber areas will appear, primarily over parts of the the SW.

It's possible that over the south Downs and moors in the west that totals are significantly higher than that.

Oh bugger. I'm on edge of Dartmoor and itd be drive to exeter and catch the train: looks like I have two choices- shift it and get off before 10 tommorow morning or leave it till Monday morning and hope it's gone down the plughole...... any thoughts ?

RandomMess · 14/02/2020 10:39

Hideous forecast for Manchester one part of the motorway is really prone to bad flooding and I have to drive there tomorrow Sad
