In the mean time, here have a load of weather warnings including an amber for snow.

The wind is up here already.

Ugh

I’ve seen the local park is closing early

Hope this weather clears off soon.

85notout · 14/02/2020 13:43

I've got to drive to Cardiff in a couple of hours, I'm not keen on the idea TBH.

Thanks Kitten.

GiantKitten · 14/02/2020 15:48

The amber rain warning has extended now - was 3pm Sat - 3pm Sun but it’s now from noon Sat.

There was substantial flooding here (Ribble Valley) with Ciara, mostly fields but some housing too, & all the local bridges to the villages were impassable for quite a long time.

Dennis probably worse. It’s looking like a very long & very anxious weekend for many. Sad

GinnyStrupac · 14/02/2020 15:54

We are surrounded by Kittens! I could think of worse things to be surrounded by - like Dennis, for example.

That is exactly our window for travelling tomorrow. I had been thinking we should delay until Sunday, even though we really can't IYSWIM, but that doesn't look any better now.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 14/02/2020 15:54

I am concerned about the flooding in the amber areas, especially for those in Wales and the SW, but also in areas that have already seen flooding.

When you're having to travel in it, there's also the worry of what is happening back at home (and for others).

TheDogsMother · 14/02/2020 16:06

Its looking pretty awful here on Sunday (West Sussex, South Downs) and it can be prone to power cuts at the best of times. I need to plan a non-cooked meal or two just in case !!

Orangeblossom78 · 14/02/2020 16:11

We are meant to be sailing to France Saturday night crossing what joy!

Currently not cancelled but some crossings are, ours is Portsmouth to Caen but the ones to Roscoff and Cherbourg have been cancelled.

Orangeblossom78 · 14/02/2020 16:12

Ferry I mean not sailing!

85notout · 14/02/2020 16:16

We've got bad flooding in Worcestershire and the Severn hasn't burst it's banks in the city yet - it's only a matter of time. Our local spotted page reported a ford at about 8 feet, I drove past today and it's flooded more than that now - you can't even get to the ford.

BiddyPop · 14/02/2020 16:32

Ferry I mean not sailing!

I could imagine actually sailing to France this weekend being somewhat fast but also less than a joyful crossing!!! Envy (not envy)

Even ferries probably not terribly comfortable...

ADarkandStormyKnight · 14/02/2020 16:42

Have been out for a long walk today and done my outdoor jobs....

Orangeblossom78 · 14/02/2020 16:45

I kind of wanted it to be cancelled as could book the eurotunnel, there are only tickets on that tomorrow lunchtime you see, nothing on Sunday, so if it is cancelled last minute that will be our holiday messed up.

TopBitchoftheWitches · 14/02/2020 16:50

Kids just been picked up by their dad and due back Sunday afternoon. I've said I'd rather he kept them until Monday as they are safe at his home but not safe travelling in a storm.

daisychain01 · 14/02/2020 17:36

The main risk with Dennis will be flooding I'm afraid, with heavy rain both Saturday and Sunday

It's very concerning for people who live in places like Ross-on-Wye and Lydbrook which are very close to the river. There are flood planes in Ross (definitely won't get built on - they are absolutely crucial in the area - there would be civil unrest if any Developer tried to acquire the land for housing!).

Driving along the valley road today towards Monmouth, the water levels were already dangerously high up the banks, and the river water was a thick red colour from the churn and speed of the water flow ... and that's before the next 2 days' of biblical rain forecast.

85notout · 14/02/2020 17:59

That sounds bad Daisy, I hope the flooding is minimal.

BelleSausage · 14/02/2020 18:15

I’m off to Mousehole tomorrow 😱. Just a ta worried about the roads now. Should we wait a day? Weather looks horrific!

RandomMess · 14/02/2020 18:20

Everything is so saturated around here I think it could be really bad reminiscent of storm Desmond, week without electricity anyone???

daisychain01 · 14/02/2020 18:21

Thank you @85notout, I will update this thread. Flooding doesn't become evident for a few days after a period of intense rainfall or snow.

The river source is high up in the Welsh mountains, so it can take around 72 hours for the true impact to be felt. Our village is the highest point in the area, so for us, we just "enjoy" a good old drubbing from the gale force winds and driving rain. We don't get the flooding but others in the area along the river at Tintern, Lower Lydbrook, Ross are probably putting out their sandbags in readiness. Keeping fingers crossed for them.

85notout · 14/02/2020 18:46

Yes, three days later in Worcester is usually interesting. The river is high at the moment under the main bridge (only bridge!) in the city centre so a few days time it'll be bad. I've been here >15 years and I've not seen the rural flooding as bad as this in the area I am I.

RandomMess · 14/02/2020 18:56

Why are the TV weather forecasters so smiling and cheery as they deliver the awful forecast 🤷🏽‍♀️
