First met office warnings for the month are
www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/warnings-and-advice/uk-warnings#?date=2020-02-03 for Scotland. Gusts up to 80mph (perhaps more in isolated spots) for many.

In general it looks like it could be quite a stormy month with a lot of potential showing from the 9th onwards. Might be worth looking at your fences in the south before then Wink

I'm a bit nervous about this too!

Popetthetreehugger · 08/02/2020 17:51

My DH and DSS are flying to Florida in the morning from Gatwick , their meeting at a hotel tonight in case the roads are pants in the morning ! Virgin text earlier to say they could change their flight at no extra cost and no flights have been cancelled . Iv got 3 trains to get me from deepest essex to the far side of London tomorrow tea time . If it's bad then I'll reschedule and go Monday.... it's so peaceful here , leaves not even moving!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 08/02/2020 17:53

It's eerie tonight, I'm on the top floor of a hotel in the corner so very exposed. It's totally still out there, full moon, clear sky. I think it could be a lively wakening in the morning.

Definitely the calm before the storm!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 08/02/2020 17:56

I'll be offline until late tonight and might have had a couple of drinks. It sounds like people are prepared on here anyway, so I'll catch you all first thing.

Please keep the thread active, the hotel people had no idea about the weather due and so I guess others don't know either.

It won't be Armageddon but but it could be the worst storm for 17 years.

The shipping forecast is always a good guide. Its looking bleak..with a lot of wind from the south west..

Wind picking up here in Manchester.

DS has had the City Academy game he was supposed to be refereeing tomorrow morning cancelled. He is disappointed and I'm relieved!

Rowgtfc72 · 08/02/2020 18:01

@FlamingoAndJohn if we're on about the same bridge I've never known it closed to anything other than high sided vehicles. This will be a first for me!

embolass · 08/02/2020 18:02

Love it when it’s wild outside, hearing the wind and rain battering the window. Candles, wine and Mumsnet. A perfect Sat night!

krustykittens · 08/02/2020 18:03

It is absolutely wild here in the Scottish borders. Have just finished feeding all our animals and everything is locked up and tied down. I am praying it is just passing through now and tomorrow doesn't get even worse!

borntobequiet · 08/02/2020 18:08

Not terribly windy yet but the sound is oddly gusty - unusual.
Rural SW Midlands but exposed to westerlies up the Severn valley.

PointlessUsername · 08/02/2020 18:11

The sky looked a little Eeery earlier, strange looking clouds and the Moon was Huge.

Igneococcus · 08/02/2020 18:12

West coast Scotland, it's howling outside and there is some hail now too. The cat just stuck his head through the cat flap and decided to stay inside.

IWishItWasSummer · 08/02/2020 18:13

The wind has picked up and the rain is lashing in Central Scotland. We live very rurally and are unfortunately very open to the wind.

Emmabryant123 · 08/02/2020 18:22

How likely are power cuts tomorrow for built up costal areas ? I'm in Sussex on the coast .
I use a CPAP to sleep and very worried I won't be able to use it because of a power cut

BillThePony · 08/02/2020 18:38

Dd is supposed to be travelling back to Portsmouth for Uni tomorrow on the train.

I am so worried that she will end up stuck, I am half tempted to drive her there myself. I am in West London so will be a long drive for me.

FlamingoAndJohn · 08/02/2020 18:38

@Rowgtfc72. Not the same bridge then. This one was closed to all traffic about 3 times in the last two weeks due to weather.

Nousernameforme · 08/02/2020 18:41

Its picking up out there now

Rowgtfc72 · 08/02/2020 18:43

We're right in the middle by the humber. Got to be absolutely blowing a hooley for the greedy bridge board to shut that!

DesLynamsMoustache · 08/02/2020 18:50

Starting to really blow a hoolie in the rural north-east of Scotland!

longhaulstress · 08/02/2020 18:51

@scousequeen we're in Merseyside and ds' football matches 1 in Liverpool and 1 on the Wirral have both been cancelled already.

Kittywampus · 08/02/2020 18:57

I'm in the south east and there's only a slight breeze

TheletterZ · 08/02/2020 19:00

I am due to go to the O2 arena for the strictly live tour, my local train route is closed (regular work) so having to plan an alternative, possibly drive to Reading, train then tube.
But given the forecast that isn’t looking a great plan, train already speed restricted and could well be cancelled (which would make getting home tricky).
Been looking forward to this for ages but now it seems like another major hassle which I could well do without.
