First met office warnings for the month are
www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/warnings-and-advice/uk-warnings#?date=2020-02-03 for Scotland. Gusts up to 80mph (perhaps more in isolated spots) for many.

In general it looks like it could be quite a stormy month with a lot of potential showing from the 9th onwards. Might be worth looking at your fences in the south before then Wink

Our power has been gone for hours.

ChestyNutsRoastingOnAnOpenFire · 09/02/2020 09:47

OhYouBadBadKitten I’ve tried googling but can’t work out......

I’m East Yorkshire, it’s blustery and rainy at the minute....is it going to get worse through the day? When is peak storm set to hit?
Will it have gone by tommorow? Trying to work out if some of my team will be safe to travel in to work?

AspergersMum · 09/02/2020 09:48

I too just realised that the power may well go off at some point today so quickly started up the breadmaker, boiled eggs for the kids to decorate then eat in wraps with mayo, and started the Easiyo yogurt. The way the trees are leaning, I'm nervous!

magimedi · 09/02/2020 09:48

WSind really getting up here - a few miles inland from Eastbourne. Was not to bad when I nipped out for the paper at about 8am but has got a lot stronger now. Not going out again.

Stay safe, OYBBK & let us know when you get home.

daisychain01 · 09/02/2020 09:49

And now comes the rain!

Absolutely bucketing down in sheets hitting our south facing window.

daisychain01 · 09/02/2020 09:51

Our lovely paper lady still delivered our newspaper this morning. What a trouper! I hope she gets home safely

woodencoffeetable · 09/02/2020 09:52

we've filled up the hot water bottles and put them under a big pile of blankets so they stay warm.
filled one thermos with tea - the others with hot water.
candles are accessible, camping lanterns.

combi boiler will shut out in a power cut.

Erismorn · 09/02/2020 09:52

Oh crumbs, that last gust sounded like something solid hitting the house. It's really picking up (SE coast, near the ferries and the tunnel). Apparently the A20 out of Dover is closed as a lorry has been blown over. The M20 has restrictions due to downed trees around J8-9.

I've just remembered we have a camping stove and fuel should we need it. Means we can at least do beans and scrambled eggs for DD1. I'm DD2's food source so all good there.

TeddyIsaHe · 09/02/2020 09:54

Wind had picked up massively in Norwich since the early hours. Scaffolding has gone down over the road. Still have power though!

AuntieMarys · 09/02/2020 09:55

We have a leaking velux! Wild here in West Yorkshire. Reservation later at restaurant in Leeds....

RandomMess · 09/02/2020 09:55

I need to make it from London to home far up North Sad so far the revised timetable is still running... just the odd train cancelled.

If all goes to plan it will take more than twice as long as usual so heading off on a much earlier train Confused

borntobequiet · 09/02/2020 09:55

Oops gutter just blew off. Gas hobs - if they have electric ignition, that won’t work in a power cut. But you can use matches.
All electric here 😕

woodencoffeetable · 09/02/2020 09:56

wrt camping stove - do not. never. ever. use it in a closed room.
it's not safe to use them anywhere that is not extremely well ventilated. (and out of reach of children)

Wonderingwhyme · 09/02/2020 09:57

@borntobequiet thank you, I was stupidly wondering how I got them to work before Grin I have an ignition stick lighter thing but no matches.

Justmuddlingalong · 09/02/2020 09:57

East coast of Scotland. Just north of Edinburgh. It's a bit breezy, but not stormy. I presume it'll be making its way across to us, but I've stuff to do. So, is this as bad as it'll get, or is there worse to come?

Redda · 09/02/2020 09:57

Lancashire here, suddenly picked up, driving rain and wind. Just watching the Blackpool Camera - looks like the Comedy Carpet is getting a good wash!! Shock

7Worfs · 09/02/2020 09:57

South Lincolnshire - wind 40mph, some rain.

Hourly forecast predicts wind slowing down from around noon, and will be 20mph tonight.

beenrumbled · 09/02/2020 10:00

Trees down in the suburbs of Manchester. Local roads blocked.

The wind has been steadily increasing since the small hours.

Rain is not too bad at the moment.

Froq · 09/02/2020 10:10

40mph now where I am (Norfolk) but doesn’t seem to be affecting anything too much.

My guinea pigs insisted on following me into the garden and seemed to be having a ball jumping in the wind and being blown about. I brought them in obviously but they’ve been sat sulking at the back door ever since.

Cat also seems to be in one of his crazy wind moods and is bouncing off the furniture.

So at least not everyone is hating the weather.

rainbowruthie · 09/02/2020 10:14

I am on top of the North Downs, Kent - it is pretty lively here
Thermos flasks are filled, candles and torches to hand, we have a woodburner so will not freeze to death, other than that I am repeatedly saying "I don't like this" not sure what help that is Grin

OhYouBadBadKitten · 09/02/2020 10:15

I'm home :) Bit bleary eyed, but safe. Cats are looking at us like WTF.

Cup of tea, get things set up for just in case, then chill/model watch.

Trying to convince DH that he and DS1 don't need to go to the City game later. (it's on TV)

beenrumbled · 09/02/2020 10:15

Glad you made it home safely OYBBK.

BlackeyedSusan · 09/02/2020 10:22

Cooking pasta, going to try out my new food flask. Need to find the torches later and keep phones charged.

borntobequiet · 09/02/2020 10:28

Glad you got home safe Kitten. I’m thinking about going to the gym...
do I really want to venture out? Probably yes.
Laughing at Froq’s guinea pigs getting blown around the garden!
