Storm Ciara forecasts and reports

First met office warnings for the month are
www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/warnings-and-advice/uk-warnings#?date=2020-02-03 for Scotland. Gusts up to 80mph (perhaps more in isolated spots) for many.

In general it looks like it could be quite a stormy month with a lot of potential showing from the 9th onwards. Might be worth looking at your fences in the south before then Wink

Xiaoxiong try putting out a call on a local Facebook group for help. Someone might be able to board it for free.

Calmed down a little in east lancs. about to drive into Manchester for work within the next hour, hope it holds off!

lifeonprivetdrive · 09/02/2020 09:08

Loodally, I get the regional Yorkshire news station here .... 81 mph recorded at Emley Moor this morning.

I am feeling a bit guilty about my grocery shop delivery today, while we stay safe at home others have to go about their daily jobs don’t they. Emergency services are one thing - Ocado is something else.

Really windy in Northants and DS' football match in an hour is going ahead! Can't believe it, wondering whether to refuse to go.

MotherOfLittlePeople · 09/02/2020 09:10

Doesn't look that bad here although I've not ventured out just yet. Lots of rain though

Piggywaspushed · 09/02/2020 09:11

OK, I am not going now Sad
I have been tracking trains all morning and it pretty much looks like one has stopped at Luton Airport and not started again.

Nixen · 09/02/2020 09:11

Starting to get a bit noisy here in Berks. Family members hoping to fly from Heathrow to Scotland tonight... 😬 it’s not looking good! We planned to nip out to pick up a parcel and get some food but I am now wondering if that’s wise...

ListenLinda · 09/02/2020 09:12

Just got very dark all of a sudden here. Bucketing it down

OhYouBadBadKitten · 09/02/2020 09:14

Flip. ECMWf is going for 80-90mph gusts mid afternoon for the SE.

Can I suggest that if you haven't sorted it already then get your powercut kits out.

Noisy wind here in Lincolnshire, the neighbour behind us has lowered his giant CB antenna in preparation (which he only ever does in high winds) Wink

borntobequiet · 09/02/2020 09:17

I’ve got a precautionary Thermos of tea. TBH I’m pleasantly surprised we haven’t yet had a power cut. I suppose I’ve jinxed myself now.

Loodally · 09/02/2020 09:18

We now have 4 flood alerts in place, which are saying "immediate action required".
Think we'll be ok where my house is, just hope everyone else will be too.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 09/02/2020 09:19

A fair number of large branches and a few small trees down. We've decided motorway rather than cross country to avoid debris as it's a Sunday and so hopefully not too many high sided vehicles.

S. Herts
Seems to be having a rest, pause or run out of steamSmile

AutumnRose1 · 09/02/2020 09:19

Beginning to wonder if I should tape the windows...

1happyhippie · 09/02/2020 09:19

Cumbria here, we are pretty used to wet and windy weather but this is a bit much!
It is wild!
We were going over to Newcastle today but have decided to stay home, just too risky.
Hope everyone stays safe!

thenightsky · 09/02/2020 09:20

North East Lincolnshire and its suddenly got worse! Rain has started now too, with a vengeance. Worried about my old gnarly apple tree with rotton bits outside DS's bedroom window.

BagpussAteMyHomework · 09/02/2020 09:21

Much stronger gusts now in London.

Wonderingwhyme · 09/02/2020 09:22

@OhYouBadBadKitten what consists of a power cut kit? We have gas hob so can eat hot food later if power goes, tablets and phones are being charged to full capacity now. We have torch’s and a very few battery candles.... what else does anyone keep on their kit?

KenAdams · 09/02/2020 09:22

At Knutsford services - drive from Leicester has been uneventful but it just went very dark and the winds have whipped up.

peridito · 09/02/2020 09:24

BadKitten I look at the met office report because I'm not v good at complicated weather maps and it says gusts of 50 for London .

Is that right do you think ?

Polkadotdelight · 09/02/2020 09:25

I've filled a thermos too! We have a gas hob but I don't trust myself not to get scalded pouring water from a saucepan to a mug. DH will probably think I'm nuts but nothing comes between me and my tea!

HPandTheNeverEndingBedtime · 09/02/2020 09:25

I'd like to know more about your power cut kit too. My prep is normally fully charged devices with a few TV shows downloaded and a couple of candles.

digerd · 09/02/2020 09:26

Oh, that just seems to be east facing as at the back facing West the gusts are still at it if a little more subdued.

AutumnRose1 · 09/02/2020 09:26

peridito sorry I know you didn’t ask me

But I’m in London and would say we’ve had gusts of 50 mph since about 6am.
