First met office warnings for the month are
www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/warnings-and-advice/uk-warnings#?date=2020-02-03 for Scotland. Gusts up to 80mph (perhaps more in isolated spots) for many.

In general it looks like it could be quite a stormy month with a lot of potential showing from the 9th onwards. Might be worth looking at your fences in the south before then Wink

It's pretty blustery here in Beds now.
The neighbours' garden is predictably trashed with furniture everywhere and there are bins all over our car park but the big old tree is still standing thank god.
It's a bit eerie outside though, it's normally so loud with birds signing and the sheep chatting to each other and they're all so quiet Sad The sheep are all pressed up against one of the fences under trees so they'll weather it but some of the small lambs must be wondering what's going on!

SaskiaRembrandt · 09/02/2020 07:13

Some very strong gusts in Sheffield now. I haven't been awake for long so I don't know what it was like overnight - I can, literally sleep through a storm. You'd definitely need a big coat if you were going out.

I gather it's going to get worse later, so I plan to stay indoors and watch crap on Netflix do some serious work on my assignment.

QE2 bridge is closing.

Try not to worry Panic once he's done the drive then he'll be safe enough.

Just woken up on the sofa to rain.
I use xcweather and willyweather.
They're telling me 30mph wind but there has been a 49mph gust just across the river. I'm Cleethorpes on the east coast so probably be getting the worst in a few hours. Might go look at the sea later(from the safety of the car). Going to put the kettle on now though and check my back garden!
Stay warm and dry everyone.

Blustery in Argyll&Bute, peak of the storm is around 2 pm here, top predicted speeds have come down from 83 mph to 73 mph over night, I have all my fingers crossed that that's right, We are right by the coast, nothing is shielding us even a little.

JurassicShay · 09/02/2020 07:23

VERY windy and rainy here in Hythe, Hampshire. Has been since the early hours. An extra kid got in my bed as the door was rattling so loud, rather impressed that the trampoline & basketball hoop stayed exactly where they were Grin

www.weatheronline.co.uk/cgi-bin/aktframe?TYP=windspitzen&KEY=UK&LANG=en&ART=tabelle&JJ=xxxx&SORT=2&INT=24&x=8&y=9 is really handy for peak gusts too.

Really bad in North Yorks right now, it woke me up at 5am and I have been drinking coffee by my french windows ever since, watching.

I have just been out to pick up the garden chairs and secured the arms under the table for the second time. I don’t have anywhere else to put them, my garage is full.

My cocky little cat (six months old and thinks he rules the planet) has got the measure of the storm. He is usually like a bullet out of the door when I go out the bin. He ran the other way when I opened the door this morning and is now trying to attack all the raindrops running down the glass of the doors.

My plans for today include sorting out the under stairs cupboard (big job), an Ocado delivery, baking a cake, yoga 🧘‍♀️ and a report for work. I won’t be leaving the house.

Best wishes for those who have no choice but to travel today.

TheBitterBoy · 09/02/2020 07:26

We need to drive home to Reading from the South coast today. Not looking forward to it, especially through the New Forest. I'm trying to decide whether leaving after breakfast or late afternoon would be the better option.

dancebabydance · 09/02/2020 07:30

@joffreyscoffees hi from Leeds! The wind and rain has battered us all night, just getting worse at the minute! Have a safe journey home

Erismorn · 09/02/2020 07:30

If the wind map has a big dark blue arrow right over where you live, that means windy, right?! I can't find the corresponding colour on the colour key....

BalthazarImpresario · 09/02/2020 07:32

@Thebitterboy I have to travel to Reading today by train and really don't want to end up stuck there as travelling by train. So tempted to not go.

ElodieJoy · 09/02/2020 07:38

I’m in the highlands near Aviemore and we have not a breath of wind. And sadly no snow.

itsgettingweird · 09/02/2020 07:39

Wind is picking up here just outside Portsmouth.
But I think we are due the worst in a few hours. When I actually have no choice but to go out.

SexIsAProtectedCharacteristic · 09/02/2020 07:41

We're on the m6 right now heading south to Birmingham, the wind is scary. Really starting to pick up now. We left our weekend away early, in the car well before dawn.

lifeonprivetdrive · 09/02/2020 07:41

I looked at the wind map earlier Elodie and noticed that it was calm in your neck of the woods.

sqirrelfriends · 09/02/2020 08:00

Not too bad here in Hampshire. I'm hoping it will stay that way.

yeetyoik · 09/02/2020 08:05

You'd definitely need a big coat if you were going out.

Said no person in Yorkshire ever !

OhYouBadBadKitten · 09/02/2020 08:10

Late afternoon would be better BitterBoy.

Said no person in Yorkshire ever !

That is a standard thing in Yorkshire on occasions when people down south are refusing to leave the house. Are you from Newcastle?

ScouseQueen · 09/02/2020 08:13

Raining hard now, wind has picked up but still not as bad as I expected. Still no cancellation of DS's sports event though! I think they will but hoping we hear before I have to get dressed and ready to go.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 09/02/2020 08:14

Squall line forming over Wales. Watch that as it heads across England. It will be nasty

We had a bit of drama here in Berks - wind blew our windows open at 6am and smashed, glass all over the street in front 3 floors below. We've been warning the landlord for months about the windows so I'm feeling a bit gloomy and told-you-so-ish because now our bedroom is open to the elements. No rain here yet thank goodness. We have no cardboard or wood so have taped it up with a towel but now the window won't close. Hoping we can get it fixed today but as it's Sunday and there is a storm I'm not hopeful.

KatherineJaneway · 09/02/2020 08:17

Very windy here in East London.
