First met office warnings for the month are
www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/warnings-and-advice/uk-warnings#?date=2020-02-03 for Scotland. Gusts up to 80mph (perhaps more in isolated spots) for many.

In general it looks like it could be quite a stormy month with a lot of potential showing from the 9th onwards. Might be worth looking at your fences in the south before then Wink

Bradford here. Woke up at 5 with the baby and can hear the wind down the chimney and the rain against the windows. It woke DD up crying say she ‘don’t like it!’. I think the worst is yet to come for this part of Yorks, glad the neighbours cut down the tree that overhung three back gardens early last year and wish they had done the other one that sits in between our houses 😔😔 got to do a short car journey at 11am. Well I don’t have to but I would feel mean not going to see my DM on her birthday!

borntobequiet · 09/02/2020 06:20

Very strong blustery wind here in SW Worcs. Hoping that the wind direction doesn’t change as currently I’m somewhat sheltered by a big hill. If it swings more N westerly we will be badly exposed!

Ick · 09/02/2020 06:23

In Leeds and my window is leaking 🙁

OhYouBadBadKitten · 09/02/2020 06:24

It sounds more like I'm in a ship Grin
Come on real morning!

Still howling here in NE Surrey. I woke up in the night wondering why it wasn't windy and then all of a sudden...

Don't dare go out and count my roof tiles, our roof is shit.

letmepeeinpeace · 09/02/2020 06:26

I love these threads as you learn where everyone lives! Fascinates me 😄 I'm in Staffordshire and it's very windy and rainy

Westfacing · 09/02/2020 06:30

I've been awake about two hours and the gusty winds are increasing here in SW London. Overhead flights to Heathrow started as usual around 04.30.

HouseTornado · 09/02/2020 06:31

South coast here, near Brighton. Yesterday was like a summer's day, but woke at 5am to loud gusts.

I'll be heading out for a walk at lunchtime to the beach when the tide is high to watch the waves from a safe distance.

I absolutely love this weather, but hope everyone is safe and sound and can call on help if they need to.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 09/02/2020 06:40

I can't get it to work properly on my phone but you should be able to see gusts here
www.xcweather.co.uk/m/GB/Map/Wind

We've got a way to go before peak gusts.

Worcestershire. It’s been windy (but not horrendous) and raining a bit since about 0530 but nothing too bad so far. It’s supposed to get worse around 10/11 (which of course is the time that DD wants me to drive her to bloody Primark...)

OhYouBadBadKitten · 09/02/2020 06:42

Once it gets properly light You can peer through your windows and practice your Beaufort scale skills.

Survived the night in the caravan but the wind and rain pretty much kept me awake all night, as well as 1YO DD. It hasn't stopped once all night.

Honestly dreading the drive back home to Leeds but we've no choice. Going to go after dinner so I'm hoping it might have started to die down then.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 09/02/2020 06:48

Driving with a caravan?

OP posts:
joffreyscoffees · 09/02/2020 06:49

Oh no, sorry! We're in a static caravan - we just need to drive home.

We are driving in a VW Transport van though.

ChilliMayo · 09/02/2020 06:50

Has anyone taken a look at Flightradar this morning? Ciara is massively affecting flight times from the USA. The BA JFK-HRW left late but still due to land over an hour early.
Wouldn't fancy it much myself though, a bumpy ride.
Getting noisy on the Marsh in south Kent. Small dogs refusing to go out.

TokyoSushi · 09/02/2020 06:53

Woke up about half an hour ago and thought 'oh no, it's one of those lot of fuss about nothing storms' as it was nothing more than a bit breezy, but it's really picking up now!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 09/02/2020 06:55

Thank goodness Joffrey!
Yes, leave it as late as you can.

The Jetstream is rather supercharged at the moment! Wouldn't fancy the landing!

The amber warning doesn't start for another hour.

Were in Dublin, here for the weekend for the rugby. It was quite breezy yesterday & got worse throughout the day. Woke up at 3am ish and it seemed quite quiet, but the wind is blowing again now.

My main concern is that we're supposed to be getting the ferry back to Holyhead this evening and the first 2 today have already been cancelled, with the third (due to leave at 14:15) showing as "delayed". Either our ferry will be cancelled, or it will be delayed, I'm pretty sure. And all the people who were supposed to be on the earlier ones will be crammed on to ours if it does go. I'd happily have another night here, but the next couple of days are looking quite bad as well...

borntobequiet · 09/02/2020 07:05

That wind map is very useful, Kitten - thanks. I’m so pleased it’s
S westerly...terribly noisy here though, the wind whistles around the chimneys and gets into the roof space, it blows a gale out of my airing cupboard when I open it.

PurpleFlower1983 · 09/02/2020 07:05

Not far from Leeds here, nothing too bad yet except it’s clearly rained.

Panicmode1 · 09/02/2020 07:08

Very windy here in West Kent already. DH is due to fly to Tokyo from LHR this morning. Its still showing as leaving on time, but I'm a bit scared for him - the drive to the airport is going to be scary enough.

boldlygoingsomewhere · 09/02/2020 07:12

Very windy is SW Surrey currently. Can’t believe it’s supposed to get worse!
