First met office warnings for the month are
www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/warnings-and-advice/uk-warnings#?date=2020-02-03 for Scotland. Gusts up to 80mph (perhaps more in isolated spots) for many.

In general it looks like it could be quite a stormy month with a lot of potential showing from the 9th onwards. Might be worth looking at your fences in the south before then Wink

That's interesting :still not windy in Beds.

joffreyscoffees · 08/02/2020 21:25

In Derbyshire and the wind is definitely picking up now.. we're in a caravan Blush (static one, at least). I'm more worried about having to drive back home to Leeds tomorrow than anything.

prampushingdownthehighst · 08/02/2020 21:27

Wind definitely picking up in Somerset

Pollyputthekettleonok · 08/02/2020 21:28

Nothing in London yet. DH v blase about the whole thing.

FlamingoAndJohn · 08/02/2020 21:31

the bridge will be fine. It doesn't shut till the gusts reach 100mph.

They shut our bridge at 50mph.

jazzandh · 08/02/2020 21:34

The problem with these weather events is, scare stories appear on sm all the time "snowmaggedon" and noone takes notice of a real storm. I have posted on local FB page but people are just taking the piss really. I have just told DH to warn his friends for tomorrow and been told that "it's up to them" which misses the point that many people just cannot distinguish what real weather events are!

notanothergiftcard · 08/02/2020 21:46

Not windy at all in London. I hate, hate, hate wind - am terrified of it.

TwentyViginti · 08/02/2020 21:51

This thread should be interesting tomorrow! I hope everone is safe and only have wheelie bin dramas!

Waitingforciara · 08/02/2020 21:53

Jazz I agree, can't believe how flippant a lot of my friends are being about it

IndecentFeminist · 08/02/2020 21:53

A little blowy here on the Island, nothing unusual though.

Froq · 08/02/2020 21:58

26mph wind here. Most of these ‘storms’ turn out to be nothing for the vast majority of us, especially those inland.

BlackeyedSusan · 08/02/2020 22:02

Wind has picked up here. It was not too bad at 8.30ish when we came out of church. Just beginning to rain but definitely worse now. Waiting for the children to come home.

It looks like my bin has been over once as it was not where it was left. It is now full of the recycling and tucked right at the back of the bin shed. I may have moved the neighbours heavy bin in front of it a bit. I hope it stays put. Don't want to be buying another bin, as you probably can't get them any more.

Ex was under strict instructions to tidy up his garden which he has done. I hope his bins stay put in his small front yard. His house has lots of trees out back, thankfully on the leeward side.

Keep safe.

BlackeyedSusan · 08/02/2020 22:03

People were not too bothered by the wind and not expecting it to be bad. I think a lot were surprised that I have already said I will be staying at home.

FreezerBird · 08/02/2020 22:06

@jellykat Thanks; just going through Rhayader and it's getting wilder. Should be back in an hour or so.

LadyRivers1 · 08/02/2020 22:09

My DPs flight back from Brussels to Edinburgh tomorrow has just been cancelled due to the storm, he's looking at another night there. Think I'm going to take it seriously now!

Triglesoffy · 08/02/2020 22:12

Checking in with the batons and hatches.

Heaviestdirtyestsoul · 08/02/2020 22:13

Village on edge of north Yorkshire moors here- my sturdy ornamental archway covered in beautiful well rooted honeysuckle plants has just been torn up by an almighty gust. Tis blowing a hoolie!

Perihelion · 08/02/2020 22:22

Flamingo it's the new bridge over the Forth, the Queensferry Crossing. It's got wind shielding.

Pollyputthekettleonok · 08/02/2020 22:27

I am honestly terrified.

TokyoSushi · 08/02/2020 22:33

Just started raining and wind picking up here in Cheshire

Megan2018 · 08/02/2020 22:44

Wind picking up here-Leics/Rutland border. I love the sound.
Currently trying to work out how to do morning stables with my velcro 4 month old tomorrow- she normally sits in her pram On the yard and watches the horses, but not sure that’s going to work! Shock

TwentyViginti · 08/02/2020 22:48

Wind is making my front door creak like an ancient ship at sea!

Cineraria · 08/02/2020 22:52

The winds is definitely picking up a bit after such a calm, clear day here (outskirts of South London). I thought at first that it was fairly still as the trees weren't moving much but then saw that anything with leaves on was having a good dance about and could hear some windy noises in the chimney. It was actually quite nice going out in the garden today in the sunshine to put everything as safely as possible and then seeing the bright moon appear as it got dark.

DS1's room tends to be noisy when it's windy, so we put him to bed in DS2's bed which is in our room and had to snuggle up with them to prevent them keeping each other awake. I think DH has probably fallen asleep there with them!

Wishing everyone a safe night and next day.

RosieposiePuddingandPi · 08/02/2020 22:53

I'm laying awake listening to the wind now in Beds. It's suddenly picked up! Lots of things being blown around outside where neighbours haven't put away.
Our next door neighbour is reasonably new and hasn't seemed to notice yet that the wind really tears across our back gardens so has left out all her flimsy plastic furniture - it'll be gone by the morning!
Some of the big gusts are already making a bit of noise!

PigletJohn · 08/02/2020 22:55

wind on the South coast still ordinary. Not yet 20mph. We are forecast 50-60 later.
