Seems a bit silly having multiple threads going when it might be quite a lively summer. It looks lively again this week anyhow.

We have met office thunderstorm warnings for the next three days.

Tomorrow storm potential looks to be areas away from the SE, including northern England and the Midlands, but I'm also keeping an eye on the SE for tomorrow night. By mid week the storm potential really grows though and by Wednesday we could have some really cracking storms.

Thunderstorms are notoriously difficult to forecast. Not only whether they will happen, but where they will happen. I'll see if I can find the link to the excellent met office tweet about that earlier this week.

It's all being driven by very hot air being drawn up from Africa, through mainland Europe, which could see temps close to 40C. We could see temperatures touching 30C by Thursday. It's going to be humid and uncomfortable I'm afraid.

Rumbles of thunder, but hardly any rain. Did have a wee shower with the biggest raindrops I've ever seen. They almost looked like golf ball sized hail, but were liquid.
Think there's more to come Grin

Pouring rain and some loud and long thunder in the Highlands on the east coast. I finally feel like I can breathe after a few really hot sticky days leading up to this.
Cannot actually believe how long and loud some of the thunder has been seems to be rumbling on for ages at times.

Another round of thunder and lightning in Edinburgh. This time with some torrential rain. I think there may be more flash floods, like on Monday.

Latest lightning.

Yep we’re on that map. It sheen coming and going all evening. Ds2 was at the back door with his friend who was desperate to actually see the lightening but kept missing it. The thunder has been pretty cool at times so long and rumbly. I’d love a really fast crashing storm have a great view over some hills that are great for weather spotting.

I need a great view for storm watching! You don't tend to get so many in your region though do you?

Not loads no. We get a bit of thunder about this time every year though only really aware of it because it’s the end of term and it has made for some interesting end of term activities one in particular 5 years ago when the gardens and our car park area flooded and we literally had a huge warm paddling pool but we don’t get the storms we used to get when I lived in Aberdeen and what Aberdeen was like last night.
We have plenty of other interesting weather at times though and the hills are the local weather centre whatever is up there is usually heading our way.

Any reports from Talley near Manchester today? Footage on twitter suggests a fairly decent tornado.

Yes had thunder during the night (woke me up) and early morning with 20 or so mins of heavy rain. SE London. Looks like it's brightening up now. We're supposed to be hosting a BBQ this afternoon! Grin

I think we may have had a storm, I had a pretty freaky dream about floodwaters rising biblical style. Relieved to find that all that is out there is a few puddles Grin

I woke at 3.20am to hear some pretty wild weather outside, it sounded howley and noisy but I dont recall seeing any lightning. I dozed back off and woke about 6am when it was all quiet. I guess something came through and passed fairly quickly.

Storm watch back on! For tomorrow night following what is going to be a very hot day for many! Risk areas: tricky as always (or Im a bit rubbish at it!) but I'd say central southern England and the SE are at risk from imports, but I also think that much of the western side of England (but maybe not the SW or western Wales) is also at risk of storms.

Main risks - torrential rain, frequent lighting, small hail.

I'll update tomorrow morning hopefully with a bit more than general hand waving. Worth noting though that at the moment there are no met office warnings out for storms.

Despite the lack of met office warnings, I still think there is a risk of storms tonight.

So it looks like it could be a pretty lively night for some tonight. I've seen forecasts for storms practically anywhere other than the far west! So I'm not even going to hazard a guess, I'll just leave you with www.lightningmaps.org/?lang=en

I'm going to stick to updating the heatwave thread just for this week to make things less confusing.
