Yay meet!

IHeartKingThistle · 01/02/2019 20:09

@arealnamechanger we're in Farnham too, it's insane! I've got to get DD to Guildford in the morning...

gttia · 01/02/2019 20:21

I wrote that we had had none, looked out of the window not only is it snowing it's settling!!

gttia · 01/02/2019 20:22

Hope everyone who is traveling and has relatives traveling gets home safe xxx

OhYouBadBadKitten · 01/02/2019 20:28

I think there might be some areas of freezing rain developing along the NE coast. Take care if it's raining up there.

SNOW Grin coming in from the North.

And OYBBK and Gloria have snow too Grin

coughingbean · 01/02/2019 20:34

Slowed a great deal now to teeny tiny flakes rather than huge chunks! (north hants) but still coming down ,

kitten and gloria Do you know if the settled snow will still be there in the morning?
Kids are desperate to build a snowman!

GloriaSmud · 01/02/2019 20:44

Yes Perihelion ~ 'tis snowing once again here!

coughingbean ~ I think it's supposed to be a cold night for most of the UK so hopefully it'll stick around for some snowman-building in the morning!

coughingbean · 01/02/2019 20:46

Fingers crossed! Thanks Gloria

ConfusedDotty · 01/02/2019 20:49

Very heavy again here in Tyneside.

Just had another clap of thundersnow.

Just hope I can get to work ok in the morning. If it feeezes it will be treacherous.

WandaFuca · 01/02/2019 20:52

Highways England have just tweeted that there's a fallen tree blocking the London-bound carriageway of the M3 near Basingstoke.

Does seem to be pretty bad in that area.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 01/02/2019 21:03

I'm not sure coughingbean, I think there may be a slow thaw for at least a little bit.

PestoSnowissimos · 01/02/2019 21:07

Snowing again here too, although it does look a bit sleety.

Whywonttheyletmeusemyusername · 01/02/2019 21:26

I'm gutted....snow days for the kids, no such luck for me...and life carried on as normal 😂 Our large dumping didn't hold anything or anybody up, and its practically all gone 😕😕

brizzledrizzle · 01/02/2019 21:30

DD is visiting DB in Worcestershire and reports no snow - must be one of the few places surely?

Haggisfish · 01/02/2019 21:32

I know, brizzle. Bloody rubbish!!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 01/02/2019 22:13

My temp is still just above zero, but many areas will be going subzero, it's kind of obvious, but check travel conditions first thing.

I’ve just had a horrendous drive retrieving dd from her (cancelled at the interval) school play.

We’re Surrey/Kent border, and by the time I got to her (30 mins away) the roads (main roads all the way) were all but impassable.

Wasn’t forecast at all - they cancelled last night due to the forecast, all snow had melted by lunchtime today, and it didn’t start up until after the play had started this evening, but within an hour it was so bad they called the rest of it off so people could get home.

This has been a weird system, hasn’t it?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 01/02/2019 22:43

I bet you are glad to be at home!

I think what caught people off guard was the extent to which snow developed from the east when the main system had come in from the west.

Isitme13 · 01/02/2019 22:55

When we got back, dd said ‘thanks for coming to get me, I thought I was going to have to stay there’

That wasn’t ever on the cards (she has ASD, I was going to get there!) but I did think that we might both end up having to camp out Grin

But yes, glad to be home (where it’s still mostly sleet, but was beginning to fall harder as we got back, and just starting to settle)

Who knows what tomorrow will bring!

Waxlyrically · 01/02/2019 23:04

For once we haven’t had any snow in NW Leicestershire but I am supposed to be driving to west London tomorrow - is this a good idea?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 01/02/2019 23:09

I think you'll be ok, just double check in the morning, the worst is to the south of London. There's some freezing rain the the SE at the moment.

Well just realised that if my flight from Bristol had been on Friday rather than Thursday I wouldn’t be on holiday now. So feeling very fortunate and very sad for those who got stuck.

MeetOnTheledge · 02/02/2019 08:12

It sounds from our local news pages as though there are still lots of road blockages in the Basingstoke area.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 02/02/2019 09:00

borntobequiet, yes that was fortunate.

Scattered snow showers in the east today, perhaps penetrating inland by some way.
