Those who are coming into London and need the tube, remember that some of the lines are air conditioned. If you can plan your journey to use those, it really is bearable. The metropolitan, circle, and hammersmith and city lines are all air conditioned to some degree. So long as the train is not packed wall to wall (so avoid commuter times if you can) it feels ok. The overground trains are also quite well air-conditioned. I have to get on the tube tomorrow and have just replanned my journey to avoid the central line which is truly the seventh circle of hell and to take the metropolitan line and walk for longer above ground instead.

One top tip for tube travel is freeze a bottle of water and take it with you to hold. Really does help.

Delatron · 25/07/2018 22:11

That’s a great idea Tuesday. Off to freeze a bottle now!

Skyejuly · 25/07/2018 22:16

Eve temperatures here say lowest 19 for the next week. It really is awful. It's looking to be low of 25 for weekend. Which isn't really low at all. I could cope in the day if the nights were not so bad.

Perihelion · 26/07/2018 00:27

8.5C low, last night in Edinburgh .......yes 8.5C......Grin

And 24C today. Hoping for some thunder storms in the next couple of days.

DustyOwl · 26/07/2018 07:03

Cumberlover I believe we are off to the same festival. I agree we definitely need rain and we are desperate for a break...but, after no rain for months it looks like heavy rain ALL DAY on Sunday!! And then dry again all week. Ohyoubadbadkitten, is that correct for Saltash way? I am torn. We need rain but I was looking forward to a dry holiday (this is our family holiday!)
I am sure we will have a great time anyway, see you there!

SimonBridges · 26/07/2018 07:35

I see that East Anglia is missed out of the thunder storm warning......

GloriaSmud · 26/07/2018 09:14

Perihelion ~ 8.5C Shock That almost calls for winter duvets!

DustyOwl ~ (OYBBK's off for a few days so hope you don't mind me answering) That's about right. After Sunday (which looks like it could be awfully wet for the SW, Wales and NW), it's looking OK for the rest of the week.

SimonBridges ~ although EA's missed out on the warning, I think anywhere could see thunderstorms pop up, especially from tonight onwards.

GloriaSmud · 26/07/2018 09:16

Today's thoughts from netweather and TheWeatherOutlook.

DustyOwl · 26/07/2018 09:29

Thanks Gloria, luckily we have packed our waterproofs. It's Sod's law, in a drought, the one weekend of the year that we are camping!!! Confused

Perihelion · 26/07/2018 10:10

Dustyowl try to camp at the top of a slope. If there are heavy showers the water is unlikely to be absorbed, but run straight off to puddle/ flood lower lying ground.

GloriaSmud · 26/07/2018 10:35

Updated weather warnings to include today for some areas. It's already muggy here (Leicester) with some thundery-looking clouds forming so wouldn't surprise me if something happens sooner rather than later for some places in the warning area.

Whatthefoxgoingon · 26/07/2018 14:51

London doesn’t seem to under a warning today or tomorrow Sad so probably no rain for us still....

GloriaSmud · 26/07/2018 15:15

You might get something pop up Whatthefox and the odd shower but it seems like for some areas, the weather sort of cools down in a 'fizzling out' way rather than by a crashing thunderstorm!

We've had some nice thunderclouds forming here and it's been overcast for the last hour or so. I think I heard a few hail stones hit our conservatory roof as a shower passed by but that's it so far. Sun has come back out now, temperature ~ 32C.

GloriaSmud · 26/07/2018 15:20

And netweather's radar ~ couple of showers sprung up in the last hour or two.

BlackeyedSusan · 26/07/2018 15:32

it has just kicked off in the last 15 minutes in mid notts as I checked when we arrived in the library and I have been using the computer for 14 minutes...

actualpuffins · 26/07/2018 15:37

Looks slightly less hot going forward for London, and there is a flood warning for later on today.

Have you seen the weather forecast for next week?!
Have you seen the weather forecast for next week?!
GloriaSmud · 26/07/2018 16:39

Wow it has kicked off, hasn't it?!
Still nothing here but the wind's got up during the afternoon. It doesn't cool anything down it just feels like opening a fan oven occasionally!

LighthouseSouth · 26/07/2018 17:32

Gloria
I'm guessing it's too early to ask for your thoughts on anything past the next week?

bookbook · 26/07/2018 17:42

we have just had a thunderstorm and rain here in East Yorkshire , for about 30 minutes about an hour ago . Its sunny again, but another black cloud is due. My basic weather station says we got 3.3 mm

GloriaSmud · 26/07/2018 18:31

It's a bit early but towards the end of next week, it looks like it'll heat up again and (looking at the GFS) that heat carries on into the weekend and the following week. At the moment, the GFS thinks the temperatures will be similar to those the south/SE are having at the moment, so not great for those that don't like temperatures in the upper 20s/low 30s.
This is sort of backed up with the metoffice outlook~

UK Outlook for Tuesday 31 Jul 2018 to Thursday 9 Aug 2018:
Tuesday will likely be bright with sunny spells and a few showers in the north. Cloud, rain and stronger winds will then probably move into western parts late Tuesday and early Wednesday, this dying away as it moves east on Wednesday. The first few days of August are expected to be mainly dry and fine across the UK but there is a risk of breezier weather with some rain in the northwest at times. Looking further ahead a good deal of fine weather is expected across many areas, although occasional heavy showers and the odd thunderstorm are possible. Temperatures will be around normal in the northwest to begin with, but otherwise it is likely to become very warm with a chance of hot conditions developing again, especially across the south.

LighthouseSouth · 26/07/2018 18:38

Thanks Gloria
So about two days respite
I think I might need to buy one of those kits to seal off the door where the air con is vented (living in tiny flat so without air con it's about 35, before anyone tells me I'm OTT). I didn't like the idea of sealing off the door but I'm not holding out much hope of natural breeze!
