Do you see any end in sight oybbk and gloria?

The Twitter bods keep talking about it reaving hideous temps here in the south east next week and it carrying long into August.

I like a bit of sun but this is getting a bit silly now!

IrenetheQuaint · 18/07/2018 17:47

Cooler today in London. I thought about donning a cardigan but decided it wasn't really necessary.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 18/07/2018 17:49

No end for the south or east showing reliably Sally. It does looking like it's going to heat up again.

It's amazing how disturbing this feels. It's really weird.

Whatthefoxgoingon · 18/07/2018 18:00

OYBBK yer breaking my heart here Sad

We desperately need some rain now!

SeaLionsOnMyShirt · 18/07/2018 18:01

OYBBK/Gloria, do you think there is anything in some of these weather people predicting high 30s in London/SE for the weekend after next? I had a quick look at the Netweather charts which seems to back that up. That would be blinking typical as I'm back to work then! (had a week of nice cooler temps and a bit of rain here in the NW, its been lovely!)

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 18/07/2018 18:04

Remember when water used to fall from the sky??

Delatron · 18/07/2018 18:09

Wow, don’t look at the net weather 10 day forecast if you hate the heat. It’s claiming 38 degrees next Friday here in the SE. No other websites picking this up so hoping that’s nonsense. Sounds ridiculous!

Easilyflattered · 18/07/2018 18:29

At least if it does get to 38 it won't be when the kids are at school. I will probably have to sit my autistic child in a bath with a fan aimed at him all day just to make it bearable.

For the past three days, it has clouded over about lunchtime with greyish clouds and looked promising for rain. Then it doesn't rain. We're just outside Cambridge and I don't think it's rained a drop for over 50 days. And it does feel really odd.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 18/07/2018 22:09

It's interesting that gfs is picking up on the very hot trend.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 18/07/2018 22:33

It's going to be fascinating to look at the next model run. If GFS is right, then we are possibly looking at an all time record breaker. The model run is an outlier, so much as record breakers are fascinating hopefully it will trend back to something more sensible.

GloriaSmud · 19/07/2018 08:05

Am Shock at some of the temperatures for next week, especially what's showing for the SE/E bits of the UK for the end of the week (although it's a bit far ahead for certainty at the moment.)
What an interesting year for weather it's been so far.

Delatron · 19/07/2018 09:10

I bet the weather boards have never been so busy. What a year for weather!
I loved the first load of snow in December. My boys haven’t really seen much previous. In March I was over it. No Spring. Easter was awful. Then from May bank holiday it’s been glorious! (If you like this weather).
I’ve never known anything like it.

I can only see netweather picking up the high temps. BBC etc more conservative. I wonder if they’ll get on board over the next few days. Very interesting.

magimedi · 19/07/2018 09:19

www.metcheck.com/ are forecasting 33/35 for next week in London.

Am still loving it.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 19/07/2018 09:56

Models have stepped temps back a little. Thank goodness.

We are entering a real farming crisis, not just from the point of view of salad and veggies not growing now, but there's going to be a huge problem with having enough hay this winter to feed animals.

ILoveToLaugh · 19/07/2018 10:00

Oh God, driving over Downs this morning admiring the view and then suddenly realised the patchwork of fields below were all varying shades of "straw"! Sad

LighthouseSouth · 19/07/2018 12:33

OBBYK "It's amazing how disturbing this feels. It's really weird."

I must be terrible at reading tone because I got the impression you liked it!

I am desperate for cool air in London but I'm giving up hope for months now.

ClarkWGriswold · 19/07/2018 12:38

We've booked a Cornwall holiday for the 3rd week in August. Are experts predicting the good weather to last until the end of the summer holidays?

SimonBridges · 19/07/2018 12:44

The local paper said that we have been 40 days without rain.
Starting to sound rather biblical.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 19/07/2018 12:54

Lighthouse, I like warm weather, it suits me. I don't like extreme conditions. I'm not sat here egging on the heat while watching crops fail and people and animals struggle. I do find it utterly fascinating though.

Clark, we can't know that but at the moment for those in the south and east (as well as other parts but to a lesser extent) it does look still as though we are in for continued very warm/hot spell into August.

BiddyPop · 19/07/2018 12:59

We had some rain on St Swithin's Day last week (but no 40 days of it to follow!). Added about 25l to the water butt (cos I drained off 40l to a large bucket we have to maximize space, but it didn't fill to the top again - DH had just filled it from the tap to allow watering cans on the veggies - flowers are wilting fast but they aren't being watered).

Report in the paper this week about barley straw being very expensive and in short supply already for farmers and horse studs.

After a few duller, slightly cooler days (what we'd normally be happy with as "summer" here - 18-20 degrees), it's back to hotter and sunny today. And it has been extraordinarily CALM for weeks now - barely any breeze at all. Even the sea breezes are dying off, as the land and sea are reaching similar temps.

BiddyPop · 19/07/2018 13:09

We're on a hosepipe ban for over a week now, and reduced water pressures overnight (10pm until 5am) nightly since this past Monday in an effort to conserve stocks for the autumn. So we're now at "level 2" of a new 5 level system announced last week by Irish Water!

I was "down south" (in Ireland) over the weekend, and they were talking about springs and wells drying up.

NC4T · 19/07/2018 13:56

Is there an app or something that will tell me for definite when it last rained where I am?

ClarkWGriswold · 19/07/2018 14:03

Thanks BadKitten it would be lovely to have a sunny Cornish beach holiday.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 19/07/2018 14:19

This is the closest I know NC4
www.timeanddate.com/weather/uk/london/historic

But it defaults to nearby locations rather than your own town and because there have been some very localized heavy storms it won't be accurate for many.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 19/07/2018 14:31

I've just looked at my records at my own weather station. The last rainfall that wasn't 'trace' was back on 1st June. So 49 days ago. Shock
