To complement the Summer weather thread.

Tomorrow could see some thunderstorms in places across England, but by tomorrow evening, the main area of risk appears to be in the central southern areas (revised forecast from earlier) , where frequent lightning and small hail could form in any storms that evolve.

Sky is dull and cloudy now here in Liverpool and there's a breeze. We had rain for about 3 minutes earlier today. I'm hoping for a storm to clear the air as my mother would say.

GloriaSmud · 27/05/2018 19:57

Not a lot happened so far ~ the wind's dropped, we've had a period of continuous rumbling, one flash of lightning, a few chubby drops of rain...and that's it (Leicester)

SoleBizzz · 27/05/2018 20:23

BMW stuck right now at bottom of my road.

Still lightening here.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 27/05/2018 20:31

Very impressive!

Warm and humid here in my part of Greater Manchester. It started clouding over at 5 but no sign of rain or thunder.

JillJ72 · 27/05/2018 20:55

Absolutely monumental storm here in N Bucks. Incessant lightning, explosive thunder, monsoon style rain. Been going for over an hour. No idea if the chickens have gone in their house. The cat came in - dry. How?!!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 27/05/2018 20:56

It looks astonishing on the lightning detectors. Incredibly intense!

OP posts:
JillJ72 · 27/05/2018 21:01

It is Very intense. I'm being a really big girl here and watching it because I admire it but am also very wary of it. Our indoor/outdoor space has a drain that can't cope with what's coming off the roof so we have a river to the patio - the back door is open and I don't want to touch it because it's metal 🙃 Huge flash then.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 27/05/2018 21:10

I spent more time on Lightning maps than on Netflix and Pinterest combined today and yesterday.

Scary times.

JillJ72 · 27/05/2018 21:14

I find Lightningmaps really helps me take back control. The lightning detector just isn't picking up the level of activity here. The thunder seems to be rolling mostly very high, not at low level at all. The rain intensity has lessened somewhat but the drops are splodgy big, oh and getting heavier again. No sign of any letup as yet....

Sureitwillbegrand · 27/05/2018 21:14

Just watched a lightning storm in the clouds whilst driving on A34. ( I'm not driving!) it's really cool seen at least 20 lighting strikes.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 27/05/2018 21:29

Incoming storm for me, near constant flashes Grin

TeaandHobnobs · 27/05/2018 21:44

Just starting to roll in here (Berks/Bucks border)

JillJ72 · 27/05/2018 21:52

If you like them, enjoy, and if you don't, I'm sorry. It's a bad one. Still raining here but lightning I think has slowed down. Be aware of flash flooding risk.

Believeitornot · 27/05/2018 21:53

We are near Gatwick and can see the massive electrical storm currently passing over Milton Keynes etc (according to lightning maps).

It’s an incredible view. It’s too far to hear the thunder but the lightning flashes are beautiful. The storm must be massive to see it from this distance (we are also lucky to have such a view out of our bedroom window!!)

BastardGoDarkly · 27/05/2018 21:57

We're east anglia, are we due a storm please Kitten ?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 27/05/2018 22:24

Perhaps later Bastard, there may be a French storm with your name on it.

That storm I saw was a long distance from me. Shock

Oh I hope so Smile

GerardWay · 27/05/2018 22:40

Hi, how's Bournemouth going to get on tonight? We had a fantastic lightening storm last night. Thankyou.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 27/05/2018 22:52

It's impossible for me to really say down to such a specific area. I think the best thing is to draw a line roughly NW from these storms, rembering that. the channel can kill off convection.

Just had the loudest thunder, biblical rain here in West Sussex, realised how appalling my guttering is. Love a storm!

PigletJohn · 28/05/2018 15:41

I can see a heavy one tracking West along the South Coast.

It started 1.30 over Brighton, and is now on the fringes of Hayling. It's got a lot bigger and looks like it will reach IoW, Portsmouth and Southampton

I must try to find some beach webcams.

youarenotkiddingme · 28/05/2018 16:54

The storm clouds brewed and it looked stormy piglet but had phased out by the time it got here!
There's another fab one over N France atm.
