met office be prepared warnings nothing too major for most, though some western and southern coastal areas could have quite a lively night tomorrow night.

Bumping as OYBBK and GloriaSmud do such a good job on these threads!

Yesterday I saw the increased wind speeds (and was eyeing up the as-then uncollected bin bags) and they've now been extended from 2100h today through to tomorrow evening (rather than afternoon school run). I can hear the wind is starting to increase as our woodburner acts as a funnel. Hatches battened down, bin bags collected earlier (thanks council!).

DH and DS1 are at the the football. Apparently it's a bit breezy, and raining a bit. According to DH. Could be worse. It could be the Swansea v Spurs match they were at.

GloriaSmud · 02/01/2018 21:11

Yes, wind is beginning to increase here (Leicester) as well. Good move on the councils part Jill in making sure your rubbish got collected before all this started ~ we've still got all our Christmas refuse/recycling here and bin day is Thursday so there's loads at the moment. It isn't going to be a pretty sight if that gets blown about overnight!

SeaLionsOnMyShirt · 02/01/2018 21:14

I've just seen this on the shipping forecast for the Irish Sea tonight - "Southwesterly severe gale force 9 veering westerly and increasing hurricane force 12 imminent". The IoM met office have put out a Red warning as well.

OYBBK/Gloria - it seems like this winter has been much worse than usual for these bad storms so far, or is it just me taking more notice of things these days?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 02/01/2018 22:16

thanks Jill.

SeaLions I don't think it's necessarily especially bad, we had quite a long slack period. However the jet stream is especially powerful at the moment, being driven by the extreme cold in the eastern US.

We may get a change of pace next week, of a sorts. Keep an eye on the weather threads :)

dd is going to be cycling home from the station in about 20 mins, once her train gets in. It's been delayed due to speed restrictions cos of the weather. Will be glad when she's home, it's getting a bit blowy.

Jersey is being hit by f9 gales up to f10 with the highest tide on record due. Roads are being shut, threats of structural damage. Very scary

OhYouBadBadKitten · 02/01/2018 22:36

oh wow :( that's not good. It was a full moon yesterday.

I'm listening to the wind picking up in London.

GloriaSmud · 02/01/2018 22:44

Wind observations from xcweather.
Excellent webpage here showing windgusts and waveheight (I know high tides have been mentioned in connection with the storm.)

Seems fairly quiet here at the moment (Leicester)

OhYouBadBadKitten · 02/01/2018 22:44

Dartford crossingis closing at 11pm. They expect it to reopen before peak rush hour, but check tomorrow.

had a text from dd, but she's adamant she doesn't want a lift. I think she's going to be rather soggy.

It sounds a bit like the apocalypse outside, I thought we wouldn’t get it very badly here in the Midlands?

HellToupee · 02/01/2018 22:47

Blowing up a errrm... storm here on the South Coast. Can hear it building as well.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 02/01/2018 22:49

comparatively you haven't mincemeat!

It's really very windy here, I can see there being some damage which worries me. We have to travel tomorrow :-(

LittleWitch · 02/01/2018 22:50

Suddenly seems very windy here now (West Yorkshire). Wind has really got up in the last hour or so.

Walkingthedog46 · 02/01/2018 22:52

Here in South Wiltshire we already have strong winds

Tormundsbeard · 02/01/2018 22:55

Really very windy and rainy in Bucks right now...

Mumsymcmumface · 02/01/2018 22:58

Update from the Isle of Man

“Proper windy!!!!!”

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 02/01/2018 22:59

I've just looked at Gloria's xxweather page & it says we'll have wind speeds of up to 50mph tomorrow morning in South-West London. I think I'm going to get to my office as early as possible & stay inside!

megletthesecond · 02/01/2018 23:00

11yr old DS was peering at his window assuming it had been left open. The wind is so noisy.

The most insane rain has just started. (North Hampshire).

LondonLassInTheCountry · 02/01/2018 23:08

Rain and high winds here in suffolk.

Got the torches out and put in all bedrooms... We are very likely to lose power. And 2 people are on breathing machines here... Going to be a fun night

perhapstomorrow · 02/01/2018 23:13

Londonlass fingers crossed you don't loose power!

Very gusty here in South London. A bit worried about our rubbish that was meant to be collected today. Just wandering if we should venture outside and bring it in.

PortiaCastis · 02/01/2018 23:16

Very rough here on the Lizard, also a gust of 69mph has been recorded at Newquay airport

MomToWedThorFriday · 02/01/2018 23:16

It is blowing something mental out there here and lashing down with rain! South Hampshire and according to the gusts website, we’re up to 79kph. I’m slightly concerned about the huge tree opposite our house - it lost a lot of branches in last weeks wind!
