Bank holiday weather

sorry I've been a bit absent from this bit for a while.

After a nice week the bank holiday weekend weather looks, ermmm, potentially thunderstormy both on Saturday and Monday. GFS shows a ridiculous deluge on the Sunday night into Monday.

Thought people might appreciate a heads up. Plenty of time for it to change - cross your fingers!

Oh hello, lightningmaps seem to be showing a kind of split with strikes now appearing further to the west in the channel near Southampton and Bournemouth.

Getting back on track for meeeeeeee

OhYouBadBadKitten · 28/05/2017 23:53

my lightning maps isn't showing anything at all. It's broken darn it.

OK just seen first lightning flash. Spitting a bit but no rain yet. Low rumbling around and about.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 28/05/2017 23:55

ok, it's back, yes I see what you are saying. I've read that there will be a more northerly component over the channel but I can't see that at the moment.

I'm going to have to go to bed. I'll peek in if I can't sleep. Have fun!

V different to Friday night's constant thunder with no rain until hailstones at the tail end. Lots of rain and more 'normal' massive flashes and crashes out at sea.

Slimthistime · 29/05/2017 00:05

People are having way more exciting weather than here. Plops.

GerardWay · 29/05/2017 00:11

Bournemouth, we can hear the thunder now. Not much sleep here as we have Bournemouth7 as well.

elizabethleicester · 29/05/2017 00:22

Have a look at that French w back now Shock

elizabethleicester · 29/05/2017 00:23

Stupid phone..webcam

PigletJohn · 29/05/2017 00:24

tremendous thunderstorms and lightening over the English channel just now, moving NNE. For some reason it seems to be following the heaviest rainfall.

Looking at the lightening strikes they seem to be heading for London and East Anglia before morning.

RatOnnaStick · 29/05/2017 00:30

Beautiful light show. It's all out in the channel though. Very quiet.

Titsywoo · 29/05/2017 01:32

Wow! Massive flash of light and very long rumble of thunder here in surrey just now!

GloriaSmud · 29/05/2017 07:30

Looks like it was quite a night for the south!
Lightning strikes for the last 24 hours Shock

15C and we've had some rain here (Leicester) but the sky has that dark 'thundery' look about it.

Playmobilpeacock · 29/05/2017 07:34

I'm in Kent and the thunderstorm last night was incredible. The thunder shook the house it was so loud.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 29/05/2017 08:40

I expect many people in the south are wondering what we are taking about! Much of the storm stayed in the channel (silly thing!) We did get a short lived storm well inland where I am though.

LadyFlumpalot · 29/05/2017 08:59

I got nothing :(

OhYouBadBadKitten · 29/05/2017 09:02

there's lots more summer yet :)

LadyFlumpalot · 29/05/2017 10:51

I'm desperate for that one photo. I've been waiting three years since I learned the technique to get a decent enough storm to try. Something about the land where I am means they tend to skirt round me.

Slimthistime · 29/05/2017 11:55

Humidity revoltingly high in London, I really hope it goes away soon....

RatOnnaStick · 29/05/2017 12:31

It really was beautiful to watch but it was mostly out in the sea. Lots and lots of multiple flashes and only a relatively small amount of thunder, very few inland strikes.

GloriaSmud · 29/05/2017 18:28

Pictures from last night's storm is on the BBC website here.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 29/05/2017 20:39

I've always wanted to do the same LadyFlump, never managed it :(

They are stunning photos Gloria.
