Bank holiday weather

sorry I've been a bit absent from this bit for a while.

After a nice week the bank holiday weekend weather looks, ermmm, potentially thunderstormy both on Saturday and Monday. GFS shows a ridiculous deluge on the Sunday night into Monday.

Thought people might appreciate a heads up. Plenty of time for it to change - cross your fingers!

I'm not sure (when it changed.) I'd only just got used to it after the last lot of changes they made as well!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 26/05/2017 16:56

There is potential for some storms overnight tonight in the south.

Ooo 'thunderstorm watch' this weekend.
Lightningmaps and netweather's lightning detector at the ready just in case.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 26/05/2017 19:02

Well done Gloria, fab links once more!!

I think central southern England is most in firing line tonight, risk moving north through the day tomorrow.

Humid in London
Could do with a storm
Looks like tomorrow for us but a maybe.

Makinglists · 27/05/2017 06:31

We've just had the most amazing night of thunderstorms. Around 1 it was continual flashes - ive never seen anything like it before. We are on sw coast.

NameNumber2 · 27/05/2017 06:39

Kitten and Gloria. Can I pick your brains please? My daughters birthday party next Saturday afternoon in mid-Norfolk do I need to have an indoor plan?!

Wh0Kn0wsWhereTheTimeGoes · 27/05/2017 06:51

Central south here, distant thunder heard around 5am, now intermittent showers and it's lovely and cool outside. Yesterday was WAY too hot for me so hoping for dry and a little cooler over the weekend

GloriaSmud · 27/05/2017 07:27

Rain showing up nicely here and not far from me now (Leicester) 18C here at the moment but there isn't much breeze and the sun's just come out. We'll see if it sets anything off in the storm department in the next hour or so.

NameNumber looks OK for next Saturday. Might need a few more days to be certain but looks alright at the moment.

LadyFlumpalot · 27/05/2017 08:00

We had a fantastic storm in the early hours here, continuous rumbling and flashes. Haven't dared to venture out to see if my newly planted seedlings survived the rain and hail yet.

Disclaimer - not to fussed about outing my location, I've pretty much pinpointed myself before :)

OhYouBadBadKitten · 27/05/2017 08:17
Grin

We had one rumble of thunder. That was it. hmpff.

I'd be slightly wary about planning outdoor things next weekend, the models show us sitting in an area of slack pressure, with small depressions scattered around, which points to a gently unsettled time. At the moment Saturday looks nice, but I don't think that's a very stable forecast yet,

GloriaSmud · 27/05/2017 09:21

We've got rain with 'chubby' thundery-type raindrops but nothing else.
Most disappointing.

Perihelion · 27/05/2017 09:34

Gloria def do a washing up bowl pond. Mine has some big stones to help the wee frogs get in and out and some pond weed. The frogs either hang around in the water, on the stones or sit at the edge half hidden by the weeds.
Was 27C in Edinburgh yesterday....AngryGrin. Now waiting for possible thunderstorms this afternoon.

GloriaSmud · 27/05/2017 09:58

Perihelion I'll make a little space for one. Have you tried 'feeding' them? I occasionally throw in little bits of bread and the tadpoles are like little piranhas ~ chasing the bits around the pond!

Our rain came to not a lot, the sun's come out and temperature's up to 20.6C.
There's some amazing footage on youtube of the lightning in the Devon/Cornwall area overnight ~

notsomanky · 27/05/2017 10:14

We just had a few large drops of rain, but the sun is shining again now.

We might get a storm later apparently, but I'm not holding my breath.

DD was outside in her pyjamas enjoying the few drops we had. It wasn't even enough to wet the ground!

Medeci · 27/05/2017 10:54

Just had a sudden brief storm in essex. Thunder, torrential rain and a bit of hail, only lasted about 10 mins but gave the garden a good soaking.

BlackeyedSusan · 27/05/2017 12:04

it was lovely and clear here when I got up. (late, I was watching the lightning map til 2am) then shortly after we had puffy white clouds then big puffy white clouds. shortly after it clouded over now it is yellowy greyish whiteish... and you can cut the air with a knife...

we have had gusty winds as well bending trees over quite a bit.

weird weather.

(WMIDS)

notsomanky · 27/05/2017 12:09

Sunny here still, but clouds are coming in on the horizon - it's warm and windy!

I've just put my 4th load of washing for the day on the line. Keeping an eye out for rain, but it's drying quickly so hopefully will get it done!

GloriaSmud · 27/05/2017 12:52

Warm and blowy here as well ~ 23.1C

GerardWay · 27/05/2017 14:19

South coast early hours of the morning. Rolling thunder, sheet lightning for about an hour then later, about 4.45am, a massive clap of thunder that nearly made me fall out of bed (I did swear rather loudly) the nothing. Loads of rain as well. Sunny now but a bit breezy.

happyhebe · 27/05/2017 14:45

Lots of thunderstorms in the north at the moment according to the real time lightning map, are they moving south?

helzapoppin2 · 27/05/2017 15:34

They've gone to the north.
