Bank holiday weather

sorry I've been a bit absent from this bit for a while.

After a nice week the bank holiday weekend weather looks, ermmm, potentially thunderstormy both on Saturday and Monday. GFS shows a ridiculous deluge on the Sunday night into Monday.

Thought people might appreciate a heads up. Plenty of time for it to change - cross your fingers!

Not here in scotland

AnyFucker · 27/05/2017 16:03

Lake district here

Just had an hour of heavy rain, lightnibg and rumbly thunder

The ground sure needs it....been parched for weeks

EllaHen · 27/05/2017 16:06

Still warm and sunny here on the West Coast of Scotland. Humid, definitely humid.

NameNumber2 · 28/05/2017 06:50

Thank you Kitten and Gloria, fingers crossed the forecasts settle on the better weather for us.x

happyhebe · 28/05/2017 09:40

There are met office weather warnings for the midlands from lunchtime today, I hope that doesn't come to anything as we will be driving through the midlands on our way south.

notsomanky · 28/05/2017 09:57

Looks like we had some rain overnight but not much.

It's trying to rain again now, but brightening up at the same time Confused

DS1 has a cricket match this afternoon, the forecast looks ok, I hope it stays that way!

The kids were disappointed there were no storms here yesterday - although DH drove through torrential rain and storms less than 5 miles from here!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 28/05/2017 09:58

It will just depend on luck Hebe, some parts may see very heavy downfalls as part of thunderstorms, while others will see nothing.

updated warnings

Thank you

GloriaSmud · 28/05/2017 11:23

Nicer day than yesterday here, no wind and a pleasantly warm 21.4C at the moment (Leicester)

Rain is moving up from France and it's setting off some storms/lightning. We're under the metoffice weather warning so it'll be interesting to see whether we get any storms later on.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 28/05/2017 14:31

It looks like the line is fizzling out a bit as it hits land. It will be interesting to see if it reinvigorates.

Warm and sunny here in central scotland

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 28/05/2017 15:55

It doesn't seem to be able to make up its mind what it wants to do here. Keeps looking like its going to start raining then the sun comes out.

Delatron · 28/05/2017 16:08

Thought yesterday was supposed to be hot and sunny and rain today? South East. Cloudy, windy and much cooler yesterday, today has been mainly sunny and warm. Why can't the forecast ever be accurate!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 28/05/2017 16:14

Because it's really difficult to forecast in these circs Delatron!

We still have a risk for overnight thunderstorms across much of England tonight. Of course, some places won't see any. They could be fairly vigorous, with torrential downpours and possible c-g lightning.

Think we will be unplugging equipment tonight, just in case.

I don't think the forecasting has been wildly inaccurate has it? Exact timings over the weekend might be out but it's pretty much the weather we expected.

Delatron · 28/05/2017 18:18

Has here. Forecast was for 25 degrees for Saturday and hot sun. Was cloudy and windy and about 20. All the forecasts I looked at for today said rain pushing in by lunchtime and cooler. I took wet weather gear out and it was hot and sunny all day. Hit 26 near Oxford. If I'd have know that I wouldn't have gone shopping!

Delatron · 28/05/2017 18:19

But yes understand it's tricky, I should have learnt by now not to plan my weekends around the forecasts. Saturday was so far out though!

LadyFlumpalot · 28/05/2017 18:25

We had some interesting clouds fire up about 2pm but they fizzled to nothing (pics attached, screenshotted from a text to my dad)

I'm determined to get a good lightning picture. According to the rain radar on the met office app there is a small localised red patch just near me at about 1am. I drove out to a clear bit of field with a good view earlier and set my cameras focus etc so I'm ready to go if there is a storm!

Well done LadyFlump!

It's humid here and the rain has just started but it's like a trickle from a tap, not real rain and no thunder - we did get excited for a second but it was a low flying military jet.

LadyFlumpalot · 28/05/2017 19:59

OYBBK, I really want to go up the top of the hills if there is a storm. However, I'm aware that's a bit of a stupid idea! Something about looking through a cameras lens takes all sense of danger out of something for me. If that makes sense?

LadyFlumpalot · 28/05/2017 20:01

This is an interesting patch to watch, it started off really quite small and just keeps getting bigger and fiercer.

That's amazing. I've been looking at www.yr.no/satellitt/europa_animasjon.html to see how the clouds are moving and it does seem to be trending north.

I wonder how much of it will be left once it gets across the Channel. Didn't get more than a smidgeon from the Saturday system.

It would be good to get some rain here (central Hampshire) because I mowed the lawn today for the first time this year, and it could probably do with a bit of wet.

GloriaSmud · 28/05/2017 21:04

Lady Flumpalot ~ that storm has really developed over France and it's heading towards Jersey. Someone on the netweather message boards has found this excellent Jersey beach-cam and I've seen some flashes of lightning on it. Think Jersey's going to get a good storm there!
