Bank holiday weather

sorry I've been a bit absent from this bit for a while.

After a nice week the bank holiday weekend weather looks, ermmm, potentially thunderstormy both on Saturday and Monday. GFS shows a ridiculous deluge on the Sunday night into Monday.

Thought people might appreciate a heads up. Plenty of time for it to change - cross your fingers!

Thank you.

donajimena · 24/05/2017 20:43

Thank you. I don't mind if its not wall to wall sunshine! I'll start organising x

McTufty · 24/05/2017 20:49

I'm marrying on Saturday in Staffordshire - it's saying possible thunderstorms 😪! How accurate is weather 4 days in advance? Could I get lucky yet?

dementedma · 24/05/2017 20:50

Central Scotland here. We haven't had the nice weather everyone is raving about so hopefully we will get some sun tomorrow and Friday before more rain!
Grass is about a foot high.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 24/05/2017 22:05

McTufty, the thing about thunderstorms is even when widespread they miss many people. I hope you have a wonderful day :)

Fingers crossed then! Thank you Smile

Thank you OYBBK for extending the warm weather into the weekend so we get to enjoy the garden. Just checked our five day forecast and it indicates rain overnight on Monday, with daytime temps of 21°C. Considering it had felt cool / chilly for so long, 17°C felt like a blessing, so 21°C on Monday, down from 24°C on Saturday/Sunday, is still 100% acceptable in my book.

Thank you for being our amateur 'hobbyist' forecaster - you do a fab job trying to help, forewarn and sprinkle warmth and sun on us (and GloriaSmud too).

magimedi · 24/05/2017 22:31

OYBBK is a Star

Can I just say if you are thinking of heading to the South coast, bring & use lots of sun cream.

It is very warm here but more than that, the sun is very high in the sky & very strong.

(Spent the afternoon lying on the beach today - in costume - it was scorchio!! ) Had to leave the beach after a couple of hours as needed shade.

Loving every minute of this weather and have to post this as am the snow grinch!!

magimedi · 24/05/2017 22:33

PS: The sea is fucking arctic - I was so tempted to swim (am a regular sea swimmer) but paddled and knew I could not brave it. Sea temp here (Sussex) is 12C. Far too cold.

GloriaSmud · 25/05/2017 12:06

The Telegraph says we could see some May records broken over the next few days.

'Tis rather overcast and muggy here (Leicester) 26C

OhYouBadBadKitten · 25/05/2017 12:18

:)

I accidentally cooked my ipad by sitting outside with it. It had an emergency shutdown. oops!

Looks like any thunderstorms will go up the western side on Saturday, with Wales in the firing line Don. Sorry!!!! Flipping forecast has shifted the plume westwards.
Rest of the forecast as before. Distinct cool down Monday.

Oh dear, poor ipad

Perihelion · 25/05/2017 13:15

Hot, sunny and a bit humid in Edinburgh. We had proper rain at the weekend ( been soooo dry for ages ) and got unaccountably excited seeing puddles Grin

Nomorerainplease · 25/05/2017 13:18

What about the frenxh coast south of Bordeaux? Diff forecasts saying diff things!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 25/05/2017 13:30

Thanks Gloria! I'm so torn between sitting inside with it, or going outside and being away from the internet.

Nomorerain, I have to say that although I do answer some questions about abroad weather, I find it much more difficult to interpret models away from the uk, just because you tend to get a feel for how accurate models are in particular scenarios. So, it's much more of a guess I'm afraid.

It looks like it's still the case of sunshine and showers after Mondays thunderstorms (which look primarily to affect sw france) temps in the mid 20s.

Gloria I can't join my frogs as their pond is a washing up bowl sunk in an overgrown flower bed. Works a treat though. Have at least 4 frogs and tadpoles.

Nomorerainplease · 25/05/2017 14:51

Ok thanks so much! Won't ask again. V helpful though and I'll take that weather.

GloriaSmud · 25/05/2017 16:02

28C here

Perihelion ~ I was wondering whether to rig up something small like that at the allotment as I'm always seeing frogs about. I think digging a pond was one of the best things I've ever done in our garden ~ it attracts so much nature and the reflections at different times of the year

OhYouBadBadKitten · 25/05/2017 21:45

I love our pond, but it's sprung a small leak so in order not to kill off all of the wildlife we keep having to top it up with water from the water butt.

way too hot tonight!

Goldfishjane · 25/05/2017 22:15

I'm relieved others are saying they're feeling the heat
BBC said 24 for my postcode but I think it was way more. I like warm weather but sadly had to use the Tube today which kind of spoils it
Glad I'm not in the office this week though!

Goldfishjane · 25/05/2017 22:18

PS do wish I had a garden
This year I have decided to be a total anorak and make a note of how many days my flat is freakishly hot
I lose perspective I think, it's great to have low heating bills but hot evenings are a pain. When I moved here I understood why posher new builds have air cooling but there's nowhere to fit it here.

Oblomov17 · 26/05/2017 06:38

Always go caravanning for May Bank holidays. Can't believe it's going to be rubbish. Angry

GloriaSmud · 26/05/2017 10:39

A warm 23.8C here. Have done an emergency watering session at the allotment this morning.
Goldfish ~ that's a good way of measuring how hot it is there! I've turned off our hot water because just the sun beating down on the roof is enough to heat the water at the moment!

Metoffice have issued weather warnings for today and over the weekend. (They seem to have faffed about with their warnings page again.)

OhYouBadBadKitten · 26/05/2017 11:24

When did the warnings page change? that's going to take some getting used to!
