Bank holiday weather

sorry I've been a bit absent from this bit for a while.

After a nice week the bank holiday weekend weather looks, ermmm, potentially thunderstormy both on Saturday and Monday. GFS shows a ridiculous deluge on the Sunday night into Monday.

Thought people might appreciate a heads up. Plenty of time for it to change - cross your fingers!

Apparently I'm out of picture allowance for the day (didn't know we had an upload limit!)

The met office has the projected path of the France/Jersey storm as making land around Southampton/Portsmouth and tracking off towards London and the East coast.

I've lost my single solitary downpour Angry

Ooooh, that looks interesting Gloria!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 28/05/2017 22:22

That does make sense LadyFlump, I fear it ends with a shorter life expectancy for photographers!

looks like storm activity is heading more for the se than first thought.

I am so, so jealous of that storm, it's been raging on for hours! Any chance someone can shove it up to the midlands please?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 28/05/2017 22:42

it's moving so slowly! and it's really intense.

I hope it the storm arrives in London.

I love a good storm, plus its so humid tonight.

RatOnnaStick · 28/05/2017 22:53

It feels quite fresh here but that storm looks more and more like its heading my way. Any predictions for how long?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 28/05/2017 23:02

Depends where you are Rat!
The rain looks to cover a wide area, but embedded in it is the storm, looks to track east of the IOW, with some exceptional rain fall rates in it. It's moving slowly with about an hour of rain ahead of it.

I'm in S Kent above the Romney Marsh. The strike rate on that thing looks like its doubled since it hit the sea. Are storms always more severe over water than land?

elizabethleicester · 28/05/2017 23:15

I'm glad I'm not on a cross channel ferry tonight.

Titsywoo · 28/05/2017 23:25

I hope it will hit Surrey. Anyone know what sort of time it will be over the SE?

LadyFlumpalot · 28/05/2017 23:26

It's suddenly started raining really hard in Dorset, but no strikes anywhere near me. Sorry guys, it's my fault for getting my camera stuff ready to go. If I was unprepared we'd have the storm of the century.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 28/05/2017 23:28

Usually the channel seems to kill it off a bit, it's not doing so tonight.

Titsy, depends which bit. I guess some time between 12:30/1am and 2am.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 28/05/2017 23:29

I think it may miss Surrey, hard to tell though.

Border of East Surrey and Croydon. Oh well I'm staying up to watch crappy TV so will hopefully see something if it passes by :)

elizabethleicester · 28/05/2017 23:35

It looks to be going east I think glad I'm in the west

TitilatedOcelot · 28/05/2017 23:41

We were heading W overnight on Fri/sat. Amazing lightning and rain in the SW early hours of Sat morning, had to pull over and stop driving until storm passed as visibility so bad from torrential rain and constant sheet lightning, never seen anything like it in UK before. It's raining now, but normal bank holiday type rain rather than biblical stuff I saw on Sat.

LadyFlumpalot · 28/05/2017 23:41

HOLY SHIT! I found a webcam for a town called Saint Valery something or other on the north coast of France.

here

OhYouBadBadKitten · 28/05/2017 23:42

I think you'll catch some Titsy :) I'm jealous, it's a rather impressive mcs. It's going to scrape past me.

If it goes overhead, I'd unplug any essential electrics

First proper storm of the summer - yay!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 28/05/2017 23:43

woah LadyFlump! if only it had sound! That's coming over the SE later, if it doesn't decay.

Lightning on this Isle of Wight webcam http://www.camsecure.co.uk/rivermedinaa_webcam.html

SaintEyning · 28/05/2017 23:45

It's here on the coast (Selsey, W Sussex)!

Slimthistime · 28/05/2017 23:48

We were supposed to have rain two hours ago.

Very humid...need rain!
