I don't know the name of the one near hers but I know anglezarke has gone
The shows the water coming down from the burst reservoir (she's effectively st the bottom of there)

Checking in as a bit worried that where we are in mid-Wales is in a warning, with severe warnings nearby. We're away for the Christmas break so don't know the area at all to know what's usual/what the risk is like where we are. We're up quite a hill so hopefully ok!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 27/12/2015 17:11

sorry, was tied up this morning.

met office warnings

although the worst of the rain is being flagged as further north than the current really bad flooding areas remember that things may change as we get closer to the event.

weather warnings the norm in Cumbria now. Reds aren't even that rare now. We've been lucky but know a lot of people that haven't.
Cumbrian roads are wrecked and I bet a lot of yorkshires will be too.

Notrevealingmyidentity · 27/12/2015 21:41

Sorry no more after New Years Smile

OhYouBadBadKitten · 27/12/2015 21:57

It looks like it will cool down but Im not convinced at the moment that it will last all that long.

Sad I was hoping for some snow

hollinhurst84 · 27/12/2015 22:21

Another photo. They didn't open the sluice gates Angry which is why the reservoir breached

megletthesecond · 28/12/2015 11:18

This might be a daft question but should this rain be falling as snow? It must be 10 degrees too warm?

hollin v.scary photos.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 28/12/2015 19:21

meglet, its our old enemy the jet stream causing the issue. If this were snow it would be extraordinary amounts!

updated warnings

hollin, any idea why?

oh yippee, 70 mph winds and heavy rain for the next 2 days where we are.

I wouldn't normally complain but DH has been off work for the Christmas period, back very early tomorrow morning, which means I need to think of somewhere I can safely walk 2 small DDs & a young collie safely.... sigh...

hollinhurst84 · 29/12/2015 00:38

They just weren't quick enough Angry
Tbh I have seen all the reservoirs bone dry and cracked in summer, have never ever seen one breach. My dad has lived nearby for 60+ years and says the same

hollinhurst84 · 29/12/2015 00:55

The pic I posted of the burst reservoir with the water coming down the hill earlier in the thread... Well this is the wall that runs along the hill to give you an idea of its normal level. Pic taken whilst I was sat on a rather large horse otherwise you can't actually view over the wall

More bad weather to come. Oh joy!

OYBBK we are meant to be making a return west to east coast trans pennine journey tomorrow, leaving in the morning and coming back in the evening. It's a non essential visit to see family and could be postponed. Do you think the travel conditions will be awful?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 29/12/2015 22:03

Im so sorry Major, Im rubbish this Christmas. Trying to cram too much in. I hope your journey is ok.

MeAndTheMajor · 29/12/2015 23:10

Oh don't apologise - I love your weather threads and can't believe you find the time to help so many of us out. We are going to see how the land lies in the morning and make our final decision then. The wind is absolutely howling round the house at the moment though...

nannynick · 01/01/2016 06:42

Happy New Year to all.

OYBBK, GloriaSmud and anyone else who knows a little or a lot about weather, I would appreciate a prediction for Aberdeenshire, Tayside, D&G, Borders.

I am going to try to travel from Ballater to Hamilton, via Aberdeen, Forfar, Stirling on 2nd Jan. Then from Hamilton to Camberley in Surrey on Jan 3rd.

River levels still high here though have dropped a bit. Been very clear overnight, so cold but was lovely to see the stars. Could do with no more rain for a bit, though expect there may be quite a lot this evening.

GloriaSmud · 01/01/2016 13:28

nannynick 'tis not looking great. Very wet tomorrow ~ amber warning for rain right in the areas you're going to be driving through. Sunday ~ still wet, rain/heavy rain could come and go.
The year might have changed but the weather's staying the same!

Have a safe journey.

Perihelion · 01/01/2016 14:28

Hope you had a good Hogmanay everyone. nannynick not sure if it's a mistake but the Met Office has the same amber rain warnings for Sat/Sun/Mon for Aberdeenshire Tayside and Central regions. Think there's going to be some snow mixed into the leading edge as well.

Perihelion · 01/01/2016 15:00

Having looked at GFS charts the 3 day amber warning for rain seems right especially as the ground is so saturated.
Safe home.
